The Cucumber spider, Araniella Cucurbitina, is easy to identify. Not only because of its green and yellow abdomen with black dots, it also have a red spot, far back above the spinners

Cucumber (Cucumis sativus) (පිපිඤ්ඤා) is a widely-cultivated creeping vine plant in the Cucurbitaceae gourd family that bears cucumiform fruits, which are used as vegetables. There are three main varieties of cucumber—slicing, pickling, and burpless/seedless—within which several cultivars have been created

Don't know what happened to Daisy's petals!

This cucumber was tiny when we left for the weekend...but it seems we are having perfect veggie growing weather.

Ohiopyle State Park

Everyone enjoying going where the normally can't, due to the frozen conditions of the falls and the thick ice covering most of the stream.

We made our winterly trek to Ohiopyle to see exactly how Cucumber Falls looked while frozen and...it did not disappoint! What did disappoint, however, was my forgetful brain, forgetting to put my memory card back into my camera, going to Cucumber Falls then shooting a bunch of shots that weren't being recorded! I ran (in slippery conditions!) back to my car to grab my spare memory card and voi-la! I took as many of the same shots as I did the first time around, and got a few gems I wouldn't have if I'd finished up with my initial walk through.

Anyway, this tiny ice oasis (an oxymoron? perhaps...) is what was behind the mostly frozen waterfall. Conditions were slippery but it was fairly easy to get to; the small crowds of people had to take turns going back there to get their photos and to make out!

Cucumber Falls is located in Ohiopyle State Park, PA. This was a bit of a tough one.. normally I don't like blending images together, even by hand, but this one was the last of the photos from this waterfall, and by that point the sun had lit the sky and trees up pretty brightly.... while leaving the lower area very dark. I desaturated it a bit and tried to not make it look too HDR-ish... We'll see how I feel about it tomorrow after giving the eyes a chance to rest.

My boy is really into growing fruit and veggies this year. Here's the cucumber plant, he's very proud of it indeed!

Cucumber. At sunset. Not at all arranged.

I'm back to where I once began, taking stills in beginners level. I should try and master the off camera flash I have, use it more and practice. Also try in day time. I have a few more days to practice on I suppose ;) Day 18/365.

My first English cucumber of 2023 is ready to pick today in the greenhouse. The recent hot spell we had in Vancouver had it growing almost an inch a day! This is the English Burpless Hybrid variety, but the Japanese cucumbers (Summer Dance Hybrid) and the Chelsea Prize, which have the most fruit, are not far behind.

We try to make it to Ohiopyle State park once during each season to hike. Cucumber falls is typically one of the stops we always make. I'll have some other vantage points of the frozen falls soon.

I was supposed to cut this up for last night's salad.
