For the first time I'm growing cucumbers in containers, and boy, are they thriving. Of course it could be the tropical conditions we've been having lately, rain daily followed by 95-degree heat with an equal amount of humidity.
I have three Sugar Bush plants in one 18" container and have spotted, thus far, 22 cucumbers and equally as many flowers. I think this should be the year I learn to make pickles.
Can't say this was one of my favorites—the salad needs more than the apple cider vinegar & spices I can add right now.
Indian Cucumber with an odd four-leaved upper whorl - they usually only have three leaves on top. As the name suggests, the rhizomes of this plant are edible and were used as food by Native Americans. They are crisp, taste like garden cucumbers and are best eaten raw or pickled. The plants are abundant here in the Appalachians, but considered endangered in Florida and Illinois.
today at the farmers market I was given a bunch of free zucchini, cucumbers and gourd plants. i love my job!
My cucumber plant had lots and lots of female flowers, but only one male flower, so only two flowers actually got fertilized. The two cucumbers are 18-20cm so far, or about 7".

That's an easy 17" (call it 43cms for those of a metric persuasion) even once the stalk end in cut off. That's going to be a lorra lorra wafer thin slices.
Whoever it is that supplies Intermarche must be putting something in the water. Funnily enough the daughter of a friend used to go out with a guy whose parents run nearby cucumber farm . I remember him saying it's all done with hydroponics so maybe it is all in the water. Now i know Old Scrunge down the allotments regularly turns out eight-eight pounders but still, for a supermarket, it's going some.

All of those cucumbers I planted about six weeks ago have started producing. The Monticello inspired teepees have been working well for supporting the vines, they look really lovely now that they're lush with cucumber and pole bean vines. I have had to train the cucumber vines to grow up the supports. I'm trying to think of a way to improve on this design next year. Last week I started harvesting cucumbers from all three varieties that I'm growing this season. I planted 12 vines of each in hopes of having a large flush of cucumbers for all those pickling recipes that call for pounds and pounds of cucumbers.
Evidently there are trees with fruit that resemble cucumbers and when this community was settled, they were abundant in the area, thus the name. Not directly named after the garden vegetable.
i don't have green finger, so planting is supposed to be out of question. i tried to plant cucumber. it has been months and still no sign of any cucumber.
