Niagara Falls is a group of three waterfalls at the southern end of Niagara Gorge, between the Canadian province of Ontario and the US state of New York. From largest to smallest, they are Horseshoe Falls (also known as Canadian Falls), American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls. Horseshoe Falls straddle the international border between Canada and the United States, while American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls lie entirely within the United States. Bridal Veil Falls are separated from Horseshoe Falls by Goat Island and from American Falls by Luna Island.

Located on the Niagara River, which drains Lake Erie into Lake Ontario, the combined falls have the highest flow rate of any waterfall in North America that has a vertical drop of more than 50 metres (160 ft). During peak daytime tourist hours, more than 168,000 m3 (six million cubic feet) of water goes over the crest of the falls every minute.

English:

Rob Eckhardt is best known for his Chaise Longues and chairs. He is world famous and is often mentioned in the same list as Gispen. Rob Eckhardt likes to fall back on his Dutch roots (something that we at Nederlandsdesign.com only like). His two most famous works are the armchair 'Groeten uit Holland' (with an image of a tulip) and the Chaise Longue 'Karel Doorman' after the famous Dutch admiral of the nineteenth century.

"The Buick Invicta is a full-size automobile produced by Buick from 1959 to 1963. The Invicta was a continuation of the Buick Century concept that mated the standard size Buick LeSabre (pre-1959, Buick Special) body with Buick's larger 401 cubic inch Nailhead V8 engine, yielding what was referred to as "the banker's hot rod." The name was derived from Latin and signified 'unconquerable, invincible, unbeatable, unvanquished' according to Buick Motor Division sales training materials." Wikipedia

Sunsets always appeal to me because of the magnificent colour gradients in the sky, which often go from yellows and oranges to lilacs and purples.

The source image for this concoction was a sunset (I lied used some poetic license in the title because it sounded better) taken from a top-floor balcony room in a hotel in Paphos, Cyprus, early in March. I’ll post a link to the in-camera original, but my intention was always to play with the gradients somehow.

The effect was created mainly with blend modes and inversions. The image was duplicated three times to make four layers, and the individual layers were flipped and rotated and blended using Screen, Difference and Negation. It was my usual mindless approach, trying things and seeing what looked interesting. Fun was had, of course!

Thanks for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image. Happy Sliders Sunday and Happy Easter - Christ is risen indeed. :)

Road trip time!

More of a "gotta do it" rather than a "want to do it" sort of road trip, but still.

Not quite the moon or Mars, but it was bar-none the most alien landscape I've ever visited, day or night. The otherworldliness of the place left me awestruck.

This is the Bonneville Salt Flats: 30,000 acres of hard, white salt crust at the western edge of Utah's Great Salt Lake basin. Some say the flats are so expansive that one can see the earth's curvature at the horizon. The geological history of the flats is fascinating.

From www.visitutah.com/places-to-go/parks-outdoors/bonneville-...

"The formation of the Salt Flats began at the end of the last Ice Age, when the waters of ancient Lake Bonneville began to recede. Lake Bonneville covered approximately 1/3 of Utah and was almost 1000 feet deep in the area of the Salt Flats. When this large amount of fresh water slowly disappeared over time, large concentrations of dissolved minerals were deposited in the soils that form the watershed for the Bonneville Salt Flats. These minerals include gypsum (commercially used to make household wallboard) and halite (common table salt). Potassium and magnesium are also present in smaller concentrations. Near the center of the salt, the crust is almost 5 feet thick in places, with the depth tapering off to less than 1 inch as you get to the edges. Total salt crust volume has been estimated at 147 million tons or 99 million cubic yards of salt. The area is comprised of approximately 90% common table salt."

Minder klassiek, maar daarom zeker niet minder mooi. Het doet me een beetje denken aan de kubushuizen in Rotterdam.

Wadi Dhiqah Dam in the wilayat of Quriyat in the governorate of Muscat is one of the largest projects when it comes to dams and water exploitation sector in Oman.

It is a famous architectural and tourist destination in the wilayat where thousands of tourists from Oman and outside come calling all through the year.

The number of visitors to the valley, located in the village of Al Mazari, has been on the rise, reaching 423,000 last May.

Tourism really took off when the dam was filled with water to its maximum capacity of 100 million cubic metres. As the valley was filled with water, it attracted significantly higher number of visitors, boosting tourism in the wilayat in general and Al Mazari village in particular.

The Dam Lake currently stores 83 million cubic metres of water and the discharge gate is occasionally opened to feed the aquifers of the villages below the dam, including the villages of Al Ghaf and Daghmar. The dam contains two lakes: the main lake and the secondary lake. The first is located along the canyon and the second in the north of the main lake.

Many facilities are there for visitors, such as resting stations, a park, restaurants and toilets. The spilled water contributed to the water level rising in the wells near the dam, such as Falaj (water stream) Hail Al Ghaf, which is one of the famous Aflaj in the wilayat of Quriyat. This contributed towards revitalization agriculture this season.

To develop services in the dam area, the Municipal Affairs Committee in the wilayat of Quriyat met recently and discussed the tourist infrastructure in the wilayat in general and Wadi Dhiqah Dam in particular. The meeting discussed ways to make the dam a tourist hub in the wilayat since it attracts thousands of visitors and tourists annually.

The committee visited the dam and interacted with the staff, discussing key requirements for developing services available at the site to accommodate larger numbers of visitors. The committee prepared a comprehensive report on services to help strengthen the tourism aspect of the region.
