Das Gebäude wurde 1897/98 für die Firma F. Laeisz nach Plänen von Bernhard Hanssen, Wilhelm Emil Meerwein und Martin Haller im Stil der Hannoverschen Architekturschule erbaut. Der umbaute Raum betrug ca. 34.000 Kubikmeter. Die Baukosten beliefen sich auf 960.000 Reichsmark, das sind 28 Reichsmark pro Kubikmeter umbauter Raum.
Außer der Reederei Laeisz hatten von Beginn an bedeutende Seeversicherer dort ihre Geschäftsräume. Auch heute ist das Haus noch Firmensitz der Reederei F. Laeisz.

In addition to the shipping company Laeisz, major marine insurers had their business premises there from the start. Even today the house is still the headquarters of the shipping company F. Laeisz.

Well well well. Beautiful stairs isn't it? Italian renaissance in a fancy building of downtown Milan. Beautiful by itself but I felt the need to edit it a bit.
Make it a bit darker, may be because of the actual ambient mood, may be because I haven't been Urban Exploring lately, I don't know. Whatever.
That give me a chance to discuss what I call "editing haters". You know, all the people who are going to yell "that's not the real picture ! you're cheating". Yes, I admit it. But you know what? We've reached a technologic point where reality can be perfectly transfered on a picture with a camera at the cutting edge of progress and I think that today, artistic photography is no longer about "transfering reality" but "translating reality". (We can make a comparison with the evolution of painting technics after the beginning of photography : painters don't try to reproduce things "perfectly" because they know they won't do it better than a camera.
Do you really think that people would say to Rembrandt "Hey buddy, you should stop your clair obscur, there is no way you can have those contrast naturally !" ?
When you're editing a picture to make it more moody, to make it more expressive or to try to transmit to the observer what you were feeling when you took it, you are not cheating, you are creating.
Be open guys, opening yourself is giving the unknown or the uncommon a chance.

The Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Amiens (French: Basilique Cathédrale Notre-Dame d'Amiens), or simply Amiens Cathedral, is a Roman Catholic church. The cathedral is the seat of the Bishop of Amiens (currently Jean-Luc Bouilleret). It is situated on a slight ridge overlooking the River Somme in Amiens, the administrative capital of the Picardy region of France, some 120 kilometres (75 miles) north of Paris. Medieval cathedral builders were trying to maximize the internal dimensions in order to reach for the heavens and bring in more light. In that regard, the Amiens cathedral is the tallest complete cathedral in France, its stone-vaulted nave reaching an internal height of 42.30 metres (138.8 ft) (surpassed only by the incomplete Beauvais Cathedral). It also has the greatest interior volume of any French cathedral, estimated at 200,000 cubic metres (260,000 cu yd). The cathedral was built between 1220 and c.1270 and has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1981.[5] Although it has lost most of its original stained glass, Amiens Cathedral is renowned for the quality and quantity of early 13th-century Gothic sculpture in the main west façade and the south transept portal, and a large quantity of polychrome sculpture from later periods inside the building.
il lago di Antrona è un lago naturale originatosi il 27 luglio 1642 per una frana di enormi proporzioni (12 milioni di mc) che si staccò dal versante sinistro della valle (Cima di Pozzuoli). La massa di roccia ricoprì tutto il fondovalle per oltre 2 km, fino alle porte del paese di Antronapiana. Antrona lake is a natural lake that originated on 27 July 1642 due to a landslide of enormous proportions (12 million cubic meters) which broke away from the left side of the valley (Cima di Pozzuoli). The mass of rock covered the entire valley floor for over 2 km, up to the gates of the village of Antronapiana. The route has a stretch equipped with suspended walkways that allows the passage behind the wonderful waterfall of the Sajont stream.
Newberry Volcano is a large active shield-shaped stratovolcano located about 20 miles (32 km) south of Bend, Oregon, United States, 35 miles (56 km) east of the major crest of the Cascade Range, within the Newberry National Volcanic Monument. Its highest point is Paulina Peak. The largest volcano in the Cascade Volcanic Arc, Newberry has an area of 1,200 square miles (3,100 km2) when its lava flows are taken into account. From north to south, the volcano has a length of 75 miles (121 km), with a width of 27 miles (43 km) and a total volume of approximately 120 cubic miles (500 km3). It was named for the geologist and surgeon John Strong Newberry, who explored central Oregon for the Pacific Railroad Surveys in 1855. The surrounding area has been inhabited by Native American populations for more than 10,000 years.
