Tales of the Cryptids: Mysterious Creatures That May or May Not Exist by Kelly Milner Halls, Rick Spears, and Roxyanne Young
Flying above a particularly bad attempt at the US Capitol building.
On a whim I decided to take part in Inktober 2018 by making dodgy sketches of Cryptids featured on the wonderful podcast "The Cryptid Keeper". These are the results.

Window Installation at Bear and Bird Gallery -- 160 Jay Street in Schenectady, New York -- October 2022.
We asked our old artist friend Skot Olsen, who now lives in Portland, Oregon and works as a tattoo artist - to do some silhouette illustrations of the creatures he creates. He provided us with a great trove of options so we could put together this fun window installation at our Jay Street location!
All of the illustrations are by Skot, but the window itself was laid out and built by me and my family! Brenda at Truly Yours Custom Framing in Glenville, NY helped out with a couple of the cut outs too!
We hope you got to see it in person and enjoy it!

This is the supply closet of the renowned cryptid hunter, Loren Coleman. Spending years and years tracking the elusive creatures of the unknown world of cryptozoology, Dr. Coleman has become obsessed with tracking some of the most famous cryptid creatures. Unfortunately, Dr. Coleman has become so fixated on finding these critters, he has neglected his office and supply closet leaving behind him a mess of newspaper clippings, evidential findings, and forgotten equipment. But most notable of all in this disorder and chaos is a certain trickster cryptid crouched down in the corner, hiding from the world. Oh Dr. Coleman...if only you realized Bigfoot is not elusive...he is just a shy prankster.

Performer bio:
Linda Felcher is a multimedia and multidisciplinary drag cryptid that has been lurking in the depths of Brooklyn Nightlife scene since 2013. Working in live and digital performance, Linda is also a skilled costume designer and maker of things, fusing mediums to tell stories on stage (and screen). Linda is a shapeshifter, exploring gender and the limits of the (in)human body through their designs, distorting the human form with masks, makeup, puppetry and video. They draw inspiration from anime and science-fiction, channeling personal narratives of trauma, erasure, and dysphoria into their work.
More about these images:
This digital album contains images from my 2022-23 "Life is Drag" residency at The Cell in Chelsea, NYC. It includes video stills pulled from the 100+ video portraits created (performances documented), behind the scenes production shots taken during my 6 months at The Cell, and documentation of the two panels I produced and spoke with as a part of this residency -- at Symphony Space (in conjunction with the Municipal Art Society of New York), and at The Cell (in conjunction with Franklin Furnace and CADAF). More info below:
I create bodies of work that explore gender, artifice, and spectacle. Utilizing directorial, curatorial, and anthropological processes, I showcase exuberantly irrepressible personalities who revel in challenging clichés and taboos to rethink and reimagine the gender construct. A sampling of subjects include Girls Girls Girls - the world's first and only all-female Mötley Crüe tribute band, and Tazzie Colomb - the world's longest competing professional female bodybuilder and powerlifter. Since 2019, I have been working exclusively on "Life is Drag" - the largest living digital archive of drag in the United States.
Drag is a poetic synthesis of painting, sculpture, sound and performance. It is also an amalgam of self-discovery, transformation, permission, actualization, revolution, utopia, community, catharsis, and ultimately - radical self-expression. Drag is ART - and life IS drag. And "Life is Drag" has become my (Rachel Rampleman) life's work. I am a one-person production team - handling all research, curation, communication, lighting, shooting, editing, interviewing, archive building, residency outreach, and more. With "Life is Drag", I document the most innovative and singular performers - selected from a wide range of locations, backgrounds, cultures, and ages - who are currently exploding onto the national drag scene. This ever-evolving archive includes documentation of performances and interviews, and over the course of the last several years I have created 350+ video portraits, showcasing 200+ LGBTQIA performers - collaborating with them in my studio, as well as during residencies in New York City, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, and New England (so far).
These documented performances and interviews are added to my online archive at lifeisdrag.com, as well as projected or featured as site-specific multi-channel installations at “brick and mortar” venues ranging from spaces like Wave Pool, a non-profit gallery in my hometown of Cincinnati, to the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh. I have also produced live events and hosted panel discussions in partnership with organizations such as Symphony Space, Franklin Furnace, and The Municipal Art Society of New York -- about the importance of documenting this important but ephemeral art form, as well as about the current drag bans in the United States and New York’s radical resistance to these worsening restrictions.

I'm hot for cryptids, so the Snallygaster boat is always one of my favorites. The Snallygaster is Frederick County's very own cryptid! She lives in the Middletown Valley.
Boat name: Snallygaster and Twins (shown in this pic are the twins, Sallygaster and Sullygaster)
Sponsor: Cicki & Ed Poole and Teresa & Thom Beckley
Charity benefiting: Sophie and Madigan's Playground
2019-2020: “Sailing Through the Winter Solstice”--an exhibit of lit-up boats that stay in Carroll Creek between mid-November through the first weekend in February. Each business designed, built, and named its boat and is organizing charity fundraising efforts connected to the light display.
This was the fourth year for this display and there were 16 boats: up from only one boat in 2016-2017, seven boats in 2017-2018, and 10 boats in 2018-2019.

Deep in the heart of Alabama's land,
Roams the White Thang, a legend so grand.
A creature of mystery, ghostly and white,
With eyes that gleam in the moon's pale light.
Its form elusive, a phantom in the night,
Leaving locals curious, with a sense of fright.
Some say it's a beast, half-man, half-beast,
A creature of the wild, a fearsome feast.
But others believe, it's more than meets the eye,
A spirit of nature, that can't be denied.
A protector of the woods, a guardian true,
A mystical being, with powers anew.
The White Thang's tale, passed down with lore,
A legend that echoes from days of yore.
Whispers in the forest, a rustle in the trees,
As the White Thang roams, on silent breeze.
So if you wander in Alabama's wild,
Keep your eyes open, like a curious child.
For the White Thang may appear, in the moon's soft glow,
A legend that continues to ebb and flow.

The Loveland frog, aka Loveland frogman or Loveland lizard, supposedly hails from Loveland, Ohio. Tales of an upright walking, amphibious or reptile-like creature were spread by proposed sightings back in 1955. To date, no physical evidence has surfaced to prove or disprove this creature's existence. Is it real or fake? You be the judge.
First the Stats...
Scientific name: Lovelandis frogidea
Weight: Up to 100+ lbs.
Length: Up to 4 feet
Lifespan: Unknown
Now on to the Facts!
1.) In 1972, a Loveland police officer reported to a colleague that he had witnessed a creature that met the description of the frogman.
2.) Later, in 2016, another officer claimed to have shot the mysterious creature.
3.) This creature was later identified as a large iguana with a missing tail.
4.) Edgar Slotkin, from University of Cincinnati, stated that tales like those of the frogman are predictable and passed down through the decades.
5.) Another sighting claimed that wihle driving to the Branch Hill neighborhood people spotted several figures standing upright on hind legs, with frog faces.
But wait, there's more on the Loveland frog!
6.) Yet a different viewing of the frogman told of a 4 foot creature that wielded a wand that was held over their head and emitted sparks.
7.)

In Missouri's woods, a creature is feared,
A legend that's whispered, a story that's seared.
The Missouri Momo, a monster so wild,
With shaggy fur and teeth sharp and filed.
Its eyes glow red, its stature imposing,
A cryptid mystery, forever imposing.
Said to be elusive, roaming at night,
A creature of darkness, a chilling sight.
With reports of sightings, over the years,
The Missouri Momo, a legend that appears.
Is it a Bigfoot or something unique?
A creature unknown, a mystery to seek.
From the hills of Missouri, its legend grows,
A creature that frightens, yet no one knows.
The Missouri Momo, a tale to ponder,
A cryptid enigma, a myth to wander.
