Freaks of Nature: A silly art show for Freaks, Cryptids & Monsters
Made by one weird, silly, freaky Dee Wah-Lung
On exhibit at Bear and Bird South Florida: November 15, 2024 - January 12, 2025
Artist Bio: Diana "Dee" Wah-Lung is a queer, Latinx graphic designer and illustrator who draws inspiration from her love of vintage cartoons, graphic design, hardcore music, and all things whimsy and weird.
She is a Miami native who went to school for a degree in Fine Arts, where she landed in the world of product design for almost 10 years and realized she wanted to pursue her artistic endeavors and went with it, baby! Her journey has led her to a fun collaboration with the Miami Heat for Women’s History Month and has a myriad of products she designed for Ban.do sold at major retailers such as Urban Outfitters, Barnes and Noble and Anthropologie!
When she’s not glued to her sketchbook, you can find her watching a horror movie with her partner and two cats.
“Freaks of Nature” is Dee’s first solo art show based off of her personal experience of self discovery. Through whimsy, fun colors, and her cute illustrations - she shares her view of what it feels like to love two extremes and learn how to blend them together to feel like her most authentic self. With subtle horror influences to the more prominent monster mug shots, she wants to portray a universe where monsters and humans are much more alike than we realize, created with relatable typography and fun illustrations.
Artist Opening Reception:
Saturday, November 16 from 4-6pm

Window Installation at Bear and Bird Gallery -- 160 Jay Street in Schenectady, New York -- October 2022.
We asked our old artist friend Skot Olsen, who now lives in Portland, Oregon and works as a tattoo artist - to do some silhouette illustrations of the creatures he creates. He provided us with a great trove of options so we could put together this fun window installation at our Jay Street location!
All of the illustrations are by Skot, but the window itself was laid out and built by me and my family! Brenda at Truly Yours Custom Framing in Glenville, NY helped out with a couple of the cut outs too!
We hope you got to see it in person and enjoy it!

As with my previous cryptid images, I used Google's ImageFX AI text-to-image generator to create this Hybrid Dogman shot. For this one, I used a self-made description from mental images I know of them after hearing so many personal accounts shared on various cryptid and unusual YouTube channels like "What Lurks Beneath", "Donovan Dread", "Donovan Dread Stories", "Lilith Dread", "Weird Encounters" and "Woodsman". This is the description I gave for the program to make this amazing photo: "In a photo-realistic sterile, light-green hallway like that from a military base or hospital with various white-colored doors on each side leading to unknown rooms, and lit by white phosphorescent, ceiling lights set in a paneled roof, a 9-foot tall hybrid Dogman is paused in a slight hunched posture due to its height and head touching the ceiling. Its long arms dangle down past its knees with racoon-like hands and thin fingers ending in sharp claws that can rip through reinforced steel doors. A wolf muzzle is open in a panting way showing rows of teeth. The eyes are intelligent and calculating with an inner yellow glow. The white-haired, heavily, muscled body that is an imposing form blocking the way forward. The creature's large pawed feet show sharp, black claws on each toe."
A century old house in the middle of Durham-Sud is said to be haunted - could it be this creepy abandoned apartment house? I mean, how can this not be haunted!? It appears that 3 units were available, can't say I'm tempted by any of them! - See more at: theparanormal.ca/abandoned_houses_1.html#sthash.ynprOdWC....
