Deep in Idaho's lakes, a legend is told,
Of a creature mysterious, yet bold.
With dark scales and eyes that gleam,
The Sharlie, a cryptid of elusive esteem.
Said to lurk in the depths, hidden from sight,
Emerging rarely, in the darkness of night.
With a long neck and a sinuous form,
The Sharlie's presence, a cryptid's norm.
Some say it's a sturgeon, others not so sure,
A relic of the past, with an ancient allure.
Or perhaps a hoax, a clever ruse,
The Sharlie's mystery, one that bemuse.
But tales persist, of sightings rare,
Of a creature that's elusive, beyond compare.
The Idaho Sharlie, a legend so grand,
A mystery that captivates the land.
So keep an eye out, as you traverse the lakes,
For a glimpse of a creature, that keeps us awake.

A cryptid's enigma, waiting to be found.
This was a series of sketches I did for my "Creatures and Cryptids" project. The idea was to practice my distortion of typically human features, to effectively create something fantasy, or disturbing. Doing this really helped me with anatomy, especially less typical anatomy, and it gave me a lot of insight in how to twist features.
Done with just pencil, this took me maybe 2 hours.

On a whim I decided to take part in Inktober 2018 by making dodgy sketches of Cryptids featured on the wonderful podcast "The Cryptid Keeper". These are the results.

Window Installation at Bear and Bird Gallery -- 160 Jay Street in Schenectady, New York -- October 2022.
We asked our old artist friend Skot Olsen, who now lives in Portland, Oregon and works as a tattoo artist - to do some silhouette illustrations of the creatures he creates. He provided us with a great trove of options so we could put together this fun window installation at our Jay Street location!
All of the illustrations are by Skot, but the window itself was laid out and built by me and my family! Brenda at Truly Yours Custom Framing in Glenville, NY helped out with a couple of the cut outs too!
We hope you got to see it in person and enjoy it!

As with my previous cryptid images, I used Google's ImageFX AI text-to-image generator to create this Hybrid Dogman shot. For this one, I used a description taken from two different personal experiences with them that were shared on the superb "Donovan Dread" YouTube channel. This is the description I gave for the program to make this amazing photo: "Photo-realistic snowy Alaskan forest scene with an asphalt road beside it and parked red Ford truck on the shoulder. Standing between the trees and road is a photo-realistic 12 foot tall, slightly hunched over gaunt humanoid form. It has sickly, translucent pale skin of blue-green shade that is stretched impossibly tight over its body. Glowing green pulsating blood veins spider around beneath the skin. Elongated thin arms stretched too far for any human form end with hands below the knees. Long, boney, spindley fingers end in sharp, cracked, yellowed claws. A hollow, sunken, skeletal face with sharp angular features is a grotesque fusion of human and something ancient. The skin of its face is tight, showing sharp cheekbones and sinewy muscles. Its beady eyes faintly glow a yellowish-green hue that pierce the darkness. An unnervingly wide uneven mouth is filled with jagged yellowed teeth like shards of ice. Thick, wet black hair like tangled seaweed clings to its scalp and shoulders. Semi-large feet with dark claws at the end of each toe. It looks like something pulled from the bottom of the deep ocean."
Looks a bit ominous in the distance.

There's a story behind this one. Many years ago, lost in the wolds of Siberia, I came across a village out of time, where fair maidens rode bareback [and indeed bare] on young mammoths in a village festival. The villagers were casting petals as they passed, when an enormous Tusker arrived to disrupt things, trumpeting and rearing among the huts and generally running amok. Equally amazing, what must have been the oldest boy scout in the world stepped from the snow-clad trees wielding an enormous kukhri! Goodness knows his tale, or how he had wandered the snowy wastes to emerge at just that moment! Needless to saw he was immediately trampled to death, but still. Of course I stepped in and saved the day, earning the gratitude of the village and indeed the maidens but that, I'm afraid, is another story..
