Note: in spite of the 'prompt fail' I kept this image and even refined it. With this 'Virtual Utopia' model I got two results like this, whereas all other models showed what my prompt asked for, namely a grouping of steampunk looking creatures in a fantasy setting.
After making quite an entrance in my stolen Urag flyer, things had calmed down a bit at the Wolf Den (Thnaks for the name, Rox!).
I had recovered from my misadventures with the Urag Chieftain, and was now going crazy from lack of combat. That is, until today. Some soldiers had decided to start an impromptu 'fight club', in a sandy area nearby. As an officer, it was normally my job to put an end to these illicit affairs. But today, I decided to have a little fun. Sauntering over, I told the (now rather sheepish) sergeant in charge that, "I need the exercise. If you can find someont to beat me, this can go on- for now."
I stripped out of my armor, and was ushered towards the arena, with several hearty slaps on the back. There were some murmurs about my irregular skin tone, which I ignored. From the other side, they ushered in some grunt. He threw a wild swing, and I quickly dispatched him. The same thing happened with the next. God, it was a miracle that these boys could survive combat! Then a real challenge came in. Klip and Cryptid had come to watch. At least Klip had. Cryptid handed his launcher to Klip, and stepped into the ring. However, seeing how I took out the last grunt, he decided to keep his armor on. Offering a quick salute, I adopted a balanced stance. His smile turned to a snarl, and he came at me. He was cautious, only throwing a few feints and jabs instead of rushing in. Good, this guy was a smart fighter. I threw a few jabs of my own, which he easily blocked. He them threw a strange combination, which seemed familiar. I remember my son, coming home after earning a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He was so happy, so young. He proudly showed me a wild combination of punches and chops...
Back to reality. While I was distracted, Cryptid landed a hit on the side of my head. Damn! Just where it was hit by the chieftain. It stung, but I shook it off. His face was a mixture of brief satisfaction, quickly turning into confusion by the easy hit. That look, just like my son's when he learned Daddy was going off to war...
This time, when I snapped out of it, I was laying on my back, in the sand. Cryptid was now looking slightly concerned, again for the easy hit. He began to offer me a hand up, when I kicked my legs up to regain my footing. I was irritated, not at Cryptid, but at my own carelessness. Dodging his high punch, I ducked under his guarding hand, and shoved my shoulder into his stomach. Another advantage of being short. Then using my momentum, I lifted him upward, and back onto the sand. I disengaged, and let him work his way back to a standing position. I dodged several more of his punches, then fired a low side-kick into his stomach. He blocked, but just barely.
Enough I swept his legs, a move which rarely works except for when used by an expert, and shoved my palm into his solar plexus as he fell. This time, he didn't get up. Some money changed hands, and I helped Cryptid back up. "Good fight," I said.
"Indeed it was" said a voice behind me. It was the CO of Silent Wolves, who had been watching in silence. As the spectators noticed him, they slowly began to disperse. I collected my Pulse Sniper from one, and left to collect my thoughts...

I had woken up several hours after the attack on the camp, and more importantly the attack on my life. I crawled out of the ruins of my tent, and took a look at my midsection. Inspecting my wounds, I saw that the gunshot was not life-threatening; it had missed any vital organs, and passed through. Still, it hurt like a son-of-a gun. I bandaged my wounds to the best of my ability, and attempted to stand. I was immediately struck with intense dizziness, and the wound in my stomach began to ooze blood. Deciding that it would be better not to push myself, I lowered back down to a sitting position. However, I was not able to rest for long; I heard Urag voices, far off, but coming closer. Grabbing my rifle, I crawled into what had been a small lean-too, built in a corner of a destroyed building. I pulled the remains of the canvas covering over my body, to hide partially from the Urags. Good. With my pale face, I may appear dead enough to fool them.
Thus so, I relaxed my rifle, and let the Urags pass. Fortunately, they disregarded me. Now, to get out of here. I briefly activated a radio beacon, to send a signal to the Silent Wolves. Unfortunately, the Urags also monitor radio frequencies. A few seconds later, the head of the lead Urag spun around, and he barked orders to the others in his file. To my horror, they began policing the bodies, firing a single round into the forehead of each. Some they had more fun with, bodily ripping them apart with brute force. Throughout this, many of the bodies remained silent as they were shot. But a few times, the Urags were rewarded with a scream as the soldier playing dead learned what they were doing. Fortunately for me, I was fairly well hidden. There were also a lot of bodies, and few Urags. I only hope the USDF can get here in time... With this, I blacked out again...
When I awoke, I heard not only Urag voices, but human in the distance. This must have been the first of them, for the Urags quickly became silent, and hid behind the ruins in the camp. They were planning an ambush! I began to hear the human voices coming closer. It sounded like some of the Silent Wolves that I knew, here to rescue me.
"C'mon! He has to be here somewhere."
That sounded like Cryptid.
"I hope we got here in time..."
That one sounded younger. It may have been Klip, who I met briefly. They would be walking right into an ambush. Feebly, I managed to fire my sniper, to warn them.
"Hold up" I heard someone say. Good. They were being careful now.
After several minutes, I was rewarded with the sight of armed me moving into my vicinity. They were checking corners, being cautious...
Suddenly, an Urag jumped out of cover, and grabbed the MG in the hands of the man on point. Grappling, they fell back, into the remains of a tent. After the premature entrance of that Urag, the other two also came out of hiding. One was near where the other one was, and the other had been hiding far in front of them, behind Cryptid. The first was blown away by Cryptid's launcher. I saw him fumbling to reload, they must have met some resistance before I was awake. Behind him, though, loomed the real threat; an Urag Warmonger, noted for their ruthlessness and brutality. It raised it's massive warhammer up above it's head, preparing to bring it down on Cryptid's skull. Summoning my last reserves of strength, I raised the rifle, and fired once. My round severed the Warmonger's spine, dropping him like a rock as Cryptid turned, and saw me. "Now," I uttered, with a small cough, "Now we're even..."

I hardly slept anymore, with sounds from the camp waking me up, heart pounding. I could not live like this for long...

Finally, I was back in action. After several days of attacks, a trio of old Silent Wolves veterans stood vigil over me, switching off every few hours. I then had a chance to rest, feeling safe. The attacker didn't show up, given the presence of the armed men. And it paid off. Now, I was back on my feet , and preparing my belongings to leave the infirmary. I still had an ugly scar where the bullet penetrated, and the wound twinged every now and again. But I would be all right. I strapped on my armor, and threw on my pack. I gave it a quick, weight-settling jostle, and began to head out of the door. And then, I saw a grenade, standard USDF issue, minus the pin, roll towards my feet...

Outta the friggin' frying pan, into the fire...
Things haven't improved much since my last near-death experience. I hung out with Cryptid and his gang for a while, until new orders came through to me. Orders which led to this audio log, and me in a heap of trouble. I was to singlehandedly infiltrate an Urag assault craft.. It was a suicide mission! The assault craft are packed with bloodthirsty Urag soldiers, ready to kill countless USDF soldiers. They often turn the tide of a battle in the favor of the 'Rags, by disgorging wave after wave of fresh troops. And my job was to destroy it. The plan was simple- Cryptid and the rest of the Silent Wolves in the area were to attract the attention of the commanding Urags in the ship, while I sneaked aboard one of the shuttle craft ferrying the Urags to the surface. At this point, the rest of the soldiers were to split, leaving me silent in the ship. But it has been said that no plan survives contact with the enemy. This was painfully aware by the time the shuttle reached the Assault Craft. Instead of a few lax sentries, I was greeted by a ship teeming with alert, bloodthirsty warriors. I was hit badly in the leg nearly as soon as I left the shuttle; they had been waiting for me. I just barely managed to limp into a maintenance crawlspace before they had a chance to kill me. I am in the process of administering medical aid to myself, but I fear that it will not be enough. I can hear them coming for me, their guttural grunts and harsh barks indicating that they are getting closer. I cannot get out. There are shadows, shadows moving in the dark. They are coming, and I won't be able to hold them for long...

Damn, things had not been going well today.
We started out with a well prepared, albeit small group of soldiers, scouting out some land in Louisiana. Things had been going great, until another catastrophe occurred. Like all those years ago, the 'Rags had been laying in wait, ready for us. But this time, I was ready too. I took out Urag after Urag, but it wasn't enough. Eventually, I was the only man standing against a horde of Urags. They were closing in on my position, keeping behind cover, and leapfrogging positions to stay hidden. They were getting far too close. Then, something massive loomed in my scope. It was an Urag Chieftain, followed by a pair of Skirmishers! I fired wildly, once, and then my magazine clicked empty. Damn, I shouldn't have been careless, and reloaded! The Chieftain brought his massive Chain-ax to bear, and brought it down on me. At the last second, I managed to bring my rifle up to block. The staff nearly sheared through it, but it managed to save my life. I was knocked down by the impact, now weaponless except for my own chainblade. The chieftain raised his staff to finish me off. "So this is how it ends," I thought. In one last act of denial, I spat at his chest as the ax began it's descent. I shut my eyes, now thinking, "ohdamnohdamnohdamnohdamnohdamn!" I felt a wave of force, a burning pain on the side of my face, and everything went black.
A few seconds later, I wearily opened my eyes. I wasn't dead! Instead, I saw the chieftain, staring blankly, with a gaping hole blown in his chest. And a few feet behind him, I saw Cryptid. He barked to the other men in his team, who must have been behind the nearby wall, to clean up the rest of the 'Rags. He helped me to my feet, and I thanked him profusely. Cryptid must have blown a hole in the Chieftain at the last moment with his MGL. however, I was not without my scars. The Chain-axe had done a number on the left side of my face, leaving a long gash. Fortunately, it wasn't fatal, but would likely be there for the rest of my life. Then Cryptid spoke again, "Come on. You can ride with us until you can get back to your group."
"What group?" I responded, picking up an AC8 from a fallen soldier. "They have gone where I cannot follow."

I follow Cryptid a bit, until he led me to a small campfire with two other soldiers sitting around it. he led me over to the one on the north side of the fire, and introduced me. "This is Mackenzie, but we call him 'Klip.' I shook his hand, and told him my name. I told him a bit about myself, being overwatch and all. Then, out of the blue, the other soldier piped up, rather resentfully, "What are you, some damned super-soldier? The perfect sniper, eh?"
A haunted look must have come to my eyes; I could see it reflected in the gaze of the kid, Klip. "No, I'm not perfect, or even close," I responded. Klip softly asked me to continue. So, I did.
"I wasn't that much of an excellent shot, up through a few years ago. I was still fresh meat then, near the beginnings of the war. I was responsible for covering my unit in a rather ugly section of a city. Twenty-three men had their lives depending on me to keep them covered, and to give them warning of any attacks. I stopped looking for a brief moment, and by the time I looked back, the screams had begun. The Urags had been laying in wait, for a hapless unit of Earthlings to slaughter. Twenty three men, who died because of my carelessness. I should have seen the signs, should have warned them. Ever since then, I have dedicated myself to being the best sniper I could be. Many of my exploits are exaggerated, but I can run and gun along with the rest of them."
The group had gone quiet for my tale. There were several moments of tense silence, until the offending soldier whispered, "I'm sorry. I had no idea."
I took it in silence. It hurt, hurt badly that these soldiers can look upon their own allies with resentment, could judge without knowledge. I needed to get out of where I was, needed a change of scenery. So, through some cosmic flip of a coin, a coin scarred and malformed through eons of abuse, I decided to go out on a limb and ask these men whom I did not know, did not know other than the wind in their step and the fire of their guns, to hold my future in their response. "I could join your team, if you'd have me. Sniping isn't all I'm good at."
