Day fourteen .Loch Ness making our way to Inverness, where we are staying the night.

A company of faire folk gather to make camp one last time with their collected treasures and shared memories as the mists began to close in around them. They unpacked their belongings: an odd assortment of mushrooms, stones, and some strange fish. Each item an attempt to capture the ephemerae of the Fairelands.
Around the flickering flames, they recounted tales of joy and sorrow, of emotional trials and unexpected triumphs. Each story was a thread woven into the tapestry of their shared experience, binding them together as Fairelanders.
Beneath the surface of their stories there lingered a quiet solemnity. For even now, the specter of the Unweaver loomed large in their minds. A foe unlike any other. A dark force that sought to unravel the very fabric of their world, of all worlds. Though they had won another battle, they knew that the war was far from over.
As the night wore on and the fire dwindled down to embers, so too did the companions began one at a time to fade. Despite the uncertainty of the future, they had found solace in each other. The magic created by their coming together would continue to provide the hope and the belief needed for them to carry on.

During is pilgrimage in Scotland to spread Christianity across the land, on his way to visit with the Pictish king in Inverness, he encountered some Picts burying what remained of one of their own people, badly savaged by a creature in the Loch. Columba ordered one of his followers to swim over to the other side of the water and retrieve the dead man’s boat. During this the servant was attacked by a creature. Columba (invoking the name of God) commanded the beast to return to whence it came and it vanished beneath the waters of the Loch leaving the swimming man unharmed.
It was not until 1933 that the monster became world famous as the world newspapers reported the story. So keep your eyes on the loch as you travel around, you never know you may be lucky and spot the monster too.

Finally, after all the fighting, killing, and surviving, I was getting a chance to relax with some new friends. I was getting to know this group of soldiers better, and "coming out of my shell," so to speak. Anyway, we were now lounging by a campfire, sharing tales of the war. Earlier in the day, I had shown Crypid some new Martial arts techniques, and Klip how to aim and shoot in the same motion. Now, we were reminiscing about our exploits in the war. Currently, the woman named "Selbz" was telling of a rather comical story of seeing an Urag fly... I looked over to Klip. He was watching and listening in rapture. I could tell that he had a thing for Selbz; between his gaze, the pink scrap of paper just poking out of one of his pockets, and the *mostly* rubbed off lipstick on his face. Obviously, something had happened between them...
I smiled to myself, which quickly turned to a grimace as I thought of my wife. I quickly sent away the thought, as now was not the time to think of sadness. Then, Klip began a tale, one of notorious Urag...
"Back in the early days in the war, before I joined up, there was talk of a single Urag responsible for thousands of deaths. They called him the General, as no one could pronounce his name. He led his troops with great success against us, using tactics that were brutal as much as they were effective. His elite cadre of soldiers decimated our lines, until we met head on at the Fifth Battle of Sacramento. Again and again we met in battle, with hundreds on each side dead. But this time, we had come up with a commander brilliant enough to challenge The General. All his troops lost, he fled in shame. The Urags rejected him for his failure. Still determined to kill and maim humans, he continued to fight us, by himself. From what few reports, he is known to be nearly seven feet tall, with armor made of human bones. Rumor is, he is supposed to be haunting this area... But of course, he is just a fairy tale."
All were enthralled by his story, all except me. "Don't joke about what you don't fully understand," I told him. "I fought in the Fifth Battle of Sacramento, and saw the horrors that he committed. He is very real, and the reports are true. I don't know what happened to him. Maybe he died, but I think that he is still out there, biding his time."
After my warning, all were silent for a few minutes. Then Cryptid started into a tale of haunting loss, and I zoned out again.
I was staring, staring into the darkness. I had always been fascinated by the night, the murky depths left unfathomed. At the same time,it scared me. I had a fear of what I could not know, and the endless shadow frightened me. No matter how much I saw, I would never know everything beyond my limited field of vision. So I concentrated on the circle of light cast by the fire, and just listened to the story, coming to terms with my fear.
The stories had been going on for a while. Cryptid was telling another story, which I hadn't picked up much from. Klip and Selbz were beginning to doze off. And then, I heard a noise, like a branch snapping in the dark, just outside the circle of light cast by the fire. Instantly alert, I raised by hand to stop Cryptid, and picked up my rifle. Concerned, he followed suit. I leaned over to nudge Klip, and then a figure exploded out of the darkness. It was an Urag, very tall, with bleached white shoulder pads. I looked at his face, and saw the scar where one of his eyes should be...
In the time it took for me to observe this, the Urag had closed the distance between himself and us, grabbing Selbz by the neck, and dragging her backwards to use as a shield. He then leveled his gun at us, a massive contraption of iron and steel. By this time, Klip was fully alert, pistol in his hand, and a look of worry on his face. He began to rush forwards, but I blocked him with my hand. Cryptid couldn't take the shot with his launcher, and Klip wouldn't risk the chance of hitting Selbz. I raised the sniper rifle, and said as menacingly as possible, "Drop. The. Lady."
The Urag began to smirk at this, then changed his mind as he looked cleanly down the barrel of my rifle. Growling, he then kicked Selbz back towards us, and into the fire. Klip and Cryptid immediately rushed in to rescue her, and in the commotion the Urag fled into the night. We stood in silence for a while, scanning the area, until Cryptid said, "Was that who I think it was?..."
After making quite an entrance in my stolen Urag flyer, things had calmed down a bit at the Wolf Den (Thnaks for the name, Rox!).
I had recovered from my misadventures with the Urag Chieftain, and was now going crazy from lack of combat. That is, until today. Some soldiers had decided to start an impromptu 'fight club', in a sandy area nearby. As an officer, it was normally my job to put an end to these illicit affairs. But today, I decided to have a little fun. Sauntering over, I told the (now rather sheepish) sergeant in charge that, "I need the exercise. If you can find someont to beat me, this can go on- for now."
I stripped out of my armor, and was ushered towards the arena, with several hearty slaps on the back. There were some murmurs about my irregular skin tone, which I ignored. From the other side, they ushered in some grunt. He threw a wild swing, and I quickly dispatched him. The same thing happened with the next. God, it was a miracle that these boys could survive combat! Then a real challenge came in. Klip and Cryptid had come to watch. At least Klip had. Cryptid handed his launcher to Klip, and stepped into the ring. However, seeing how I took out the last grunt, he decided to keep his armor on. Offering a quick salute, I adopted a balanced stance. His smile turned to a snarl, and he came at me. He was cautious, only throwing a few feints and jabs instead of rushing in. Good, this guy was a smart fighter. I threw a few jabs of my own, which he easily blocked. He them threw a strange combination, which seemed familiar. I remember my son, coming home after earning a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He was so happy, so young. He proudly showed me a wild combination of punches and chops...
Back to reality. While I was distracted, Cryptid landed a hit on the side of my head. Damn! Just where it was hit by the chieftain. It stung, but I shook it off. His face was a mixture of brief satisfaction, quickly turning into confusion by the easy hit. That look, just like my son's when he learned Daddy was going off to war...
This time, when I snapped out of it, I was laying on my back, in the sand. Cryptid was now looking slightly concerned, again for the easy hit. He began to offer me a hand up, when I kicked my legs up to regain my footing. I was irritated, not at Cryptid, but at my own carelessness. Dodging his high punch, I ducked under his guarding hand, and shoved my shoulder into his stomach. Another advantage of being short. Then using my momentum, I lifted him upward, and back onto the sand. I disengaged, and let him work his way back to a standing position. I dodged several more of his punches, then fired a low side-kick into his stomach. He blocked, but just barely.
Enough I swept his legs, a move which rarely works except for when used by an expert, and shoved my palm into his solar plexus as he fell. This time, he didn't get up. Some money changed hands, and I helped Cryptid back up. "Good fight," I said.
"Indeed it was" said a voice behind me. It was the CO of Silent Wolves, who had been watching in silence. As the spectators noticed him, they slowly began to disperse. I collected my Pulse Sniper from one, and left to collect my thoughts...
