I'll probably replace this one with a collage of three pictures I got just before, during, and after this crossing maneuver...they were friggin' close...

I've long been fascinated by the site of the steel wheels on steel rails, particularly when the wheels are crossing a diamond.
New crossing arms and pedestrian safety features have recently been installed at the Meats Avenue crossing. Photo taken by Daralee on January 29. 2011.
NOTE added 3/4/2011 - OC Register reported yesterday that 'Quiet Zones' have been established at 16 railroad crossings through Orange: "In a Quiet Zone, trains do not have to sound their horns unless there is an emergency." Work on establishing these Quiet Zones -- such as the one shown here at the Meats Avenue crossing -- began in 2009 and finished last January, and included "signage, striping, installment of signals, raised pavement markers, automatic pedestrian and vehicular gates, modified roadway medians, fencing gates, hand railings and concrete crossing panels."

Blackjack Crossing played a tripple-billed show @ the Sumner Night Chapel as part of the Keene Music Festival series to benefit the restoration of the Chapel. Also in the lineup were Big Paws and Split-Tongue Crow, who were new to me but totally amazing. Check out pictures of their sets as well, and go buy everyone's music, or better yet, see them live!
