Rock Crossing Campground is located 2 miles from Blue Ridge Reservoir (also known as C.C. Cragin Reservoir). This narrow, winding body of water looks more like a canyon-bound river than a lake. Nestled between forested canyon walls it provides picturesque water recreation in a secluded, wooded setting.

This is probably a good opportunity to say something about crossing the road over here. My first impression was that if you were looking for a foundation course in getting mown down by a complete maniac, this is probably the best place in the world to start. It's just completely mental. Traffic lights are considered advisory, as is driving on any particular side of the road based on your direction of travel. Oh, and pedestrian crossings, you're having a laugh! I sat for a couple of hours in a cafe overlooking the main intersection in Hanoi, and just couldn't take my eyes off it. Somehow, they all manage to miss each other. I know what you're thinking, and yes, I've been to Rome, the Arch de Triomphe in Paris, and even India, but I'm telling you, none of them can hold a candle to this. It makes Indian traffic look like Swiss traffic.
Which brings me to crossing the road, because it really is something else. Basically, you take all of the rules we use at home, and do the opposite. You just eyeball the oncoming traffic, and calm as you like, slowly step out into it, and then proceed to cross the road at a slow, even pace. Don't stop, and don't, under any circumstances run or even speed up. They will avoid you (Or at least, they have so far!) Never has the old adage about 'Jaywalking with the locals' been more appropriate. If possible, I try to hide behind some ancient old lady, just to improve my odds a little bit further on the principle that if she's made it to that age, she must know what she's doing!

Off and on over the years I've been trying to catch a perfectly framed shot of a train at the crossing, but with no success, my timing was always just a bit off. This time though I nailed it.
