A garden in the making: an estimated 15,000 people, mostly prostitutes and poor people, are buried in a small patch of land a stone's throw from London Bridge. Not so long ago, Transport for London wanted to get its hands on the plot; now it's becoming a quirky green space to enjoy and remember. On the railings facing the street, people have put up ribbons and home-made votives to remember those long dead, and friends and relatives lost more recently too.

This is a very important spot in London that not very many people are aware of. When you see all the big new skyscrapers and fancy buildings going up around the area, it's even more important and impressive that the small group of people who run this graveyard have kept development at bay for so long.
This is the burial site of many of south London's outcasts including paupers and sex workers.

Crossbones Cemetery, Redcross Way, Southwark.
A cemetery for prostitutes licensed (pimped) by the Bishops of Winchester Palace in Southwark. When they died, after years of paying their dues to the church from their work, they were buried in this unconsecrated ground by the bishops. Later it became a burial ground for paupers, still unconscrated. It is believed that there are 15,000 people, men women and children buried here.

Some more Highway Impressions.
I like the reflection of the driver in the mirror and placed it diagonal from the skull for some interesting composition.
had a terrible journey to work today but my car kept me safe, thanks to ABS. in fact had 3 weeks worth of crap car journeys - have seen 2 dead cats and today one dead dog; lost control of car on ice, mushy leaves, and today on an oily road. narrowly missed hitting the car in front by skidding off into the hedgerow on central reservation of the very busy A23. luckily due to aforementioned ABS, each time i regained control of the car in the nick of time. anyway this is my filhy car with a little symbol for my mortality and the hazards of driving.
Cake i made for my son's 5th birthday. He is addicted to the programme Brainiac where they do mad science experiments shown on sky in the UK

"Twas in another lifetime,
one of toil and blood
When blackness was a virtue
and the road was full of mud
[I came in from the wilderness, a creature void of form.]
Come in, she said,
I'll give you shelter from the storm."

Crossbones Graveyard Garden of Remembrance. A poster [qv] explains the significance of the sculpture and its place at this very special site.
I would normally post a b&w picture in sequence with its colour original (where there is one) but I decided that this makes a striking and dramatic ending to my Crossbones Graveyard series.

8" buttercake filled with buttercream & iced with fondant.
Was for a 7th birthday for my neighbours little boy. His favourite colours are pink & purple but I didn't want to put too much pink in there...try to keep it a little masculine ;-)
Design from PC cake book. I had fun making this simple & effective design. Love it!
Taken using an off-camera flash (Nikon SB-600), and a Nikon D7000.
Assembled in photoshop and processed with various Hue/Gradient masks.
To round off 12th night the company head off to Crossbones Graveyard & Garden of Remembrance where the Green Man blesses the garden.
