These gates have been used as a memorial since 1998 for the burial ground behind the gates. The burial ground dates from medieval times and was mainly used as a burial ground for prostitutes. Redcross Way SE1.

I'd guess that this was painted on by the Khmer Rouge, perhaps to indicate a 'purged' building? Seen a few derelict old buildings thus marked.

A garden in the making: an estimated 15,000 people, mostly prostitutes and poor people, are buried in a small patch of land a stone's throw from London Bridge. Not so long ago, Transport for London wanted to get its hands on the plot; now it's becoming a quirky green space to enjoy and remember. On the railings facing the street, people have put up ribbons and home-made votives to remember those long dead, and friends and relatives lost more recently too.

This is the wall next to the votives. Someone has clearly felt inspired to share their thoughts about death, just on the other side of the road from the back entrance of the Catholic Church of the Most Precious Blood.
