This is a custom model, it has the body of the Aurora Monsters Of The Movies Creature and the head and arms from the Marx plastic Creature.
A beautiful white, draft horse stands patiently as she's being groomed by her owner. From a series of a beloved, but declining local horse-drawn carriage company.
I captured these sea creatures at the Houston Museum of Natural History. My captures were without flash, without a tripod, and not captured very well. So, I used a few filters to mask the imperfections, because I felt compelled to share.
I really am always amused by these sea creatures at the museum. One day, I will figure out how best to capture these.

I've been doing massive cleaning on my bedroom as of late. Autumn cleaning. I've also been very slowly setting up a work area/desk in the sun room. I found a box of stuff from my days working at Connextions in my bedroom and moved it out to the sun room, then went through it and put some of the more fun items out on my desk and the shelf above it. One of the things I found for the shelf above the desk were these little...alien looking creatures that my friend Courtney and I used to collect out of McDonald's Happy Meals when we would go there for lunch together. Courtney and I went to McDonald's together for lunch A LOT in the early Connextions days, and we often got Happy Meals, earning us some entertained looks from the kids in McDonald's at times. I really enjoyed these toys the most because they're so cute! Courtney and I would set some of them out on our cubes at work. It made me happy to see them again, and surprisingly filled me with a wave of nostalgia and longing for Disconnextions.
Not that I would want to go back...what I miss is the time and the people, not the place itself. They made it...I would say bearable but that's really not enough, they made it...really almost magic at times. I had the most wonderful friends there, the web chat girls. Courtney was the first friend I made at Connextions. We were in training together. One day in the break room of the RCCC building that we trained in we started talking, then we started sitting together in training and quickly became friends. I was shocked after knowing her for around a week that I'd never realized that she had tattoos, including two rather prominent skulls on her forearms, as well as tattoos on the tops of her feet that showed easily in the slip on shoes she wore. Nor had I noticed that she had a lip ring, so much was the force of her personality it overwhelmed anything else.
Once we were out on the floor we always made sure that we sat together, through all the moves. During our first week on the floor she used one of her adorable frog sticky notes to write my name on and stick on my cube. From that day, until the day I left that was my name tag on my cube...I rejected and removed all others that the company provided on their lame neon yellow Sprint paper. We went with another friend we had in the early days, Tameisha, to Target for Pizza Hut and then shopping for "friendship trolls" -- we each got one to put on our desks. Courtney definitely had the cutest cubical I've ever seen. We picked out a Hello Kitty Halloween bucket for her desk to put nick nacks in, and she had a foam, bendable skeleton tacked up on her cube wall, not to mention all her other Hello Kitty stuff. On the floor, we wrote little letters back and forth and passed them like schoolkids, we went to McDonald's a lot, we went shopping and purchased matching outfits complete with matching owl necklaces and wore them to work one day. I was there when she had her very first Big Mac (and I never got over it being her FIRST Big Mac)! I teased her that I was a bad influence getting her hooked on bad food. She shortly thereafter put a photo of a Big Mac from a McDonald's ad up in her cubical. We went to Waffle House and had such a strange experience with a singing man and having this guy give Courtney his coat that we rarely went back there, but we always enjoyed a shared laugh about our experiences. Come for the waffles, stay for the insanity.
She took me out to Macado's for my birthday, which I think was the only going out thing I did for the occasion that year, and gave me a monkey from Build-a-Bear (which was an awesome present for so many reasons, one being that I'm a Monkey according to Chinese astrology). We sat there in our booth and laughed and laughed as we sat Saint Chickenwing (that's what she named the monkey) up in the window facing the crowds that passed Macado's in the mall and watched their reactions (he was in a birthday outfit, complete with hat). It was over that dinner that we hatched the idea of doing a web show together. Sadly, before it ever got off the ground Courtney left Connextions and moved to Charlotte making it hard to pursue. We had craft parties...once at Courtney's cute little apartment making purses, and once at Jennifer's house making flip flops. She got me into watching Invader Zim. We had so much fun doing so many things.... I miss her. I wish I could see her more than I do, but life has a way of separating us from our friends...at least for a time. I hope that we will always be friends though, and that one day we can hang out more again, like we used to.
My little alien robot whatever they are buddies from McDonald's brought so many memories back to me, mostly of Courtney & the fun we used to have. And while it did bring back to me again how much I miss her, it also made me feel lucky that I met her the way I did and that we enjoyed so many good times together. I remember there was this one little alien guy, the blue guy with the purple accents and pink...mouth? Anyway, when we got him...well, they all have abilities...they do something. This one, when you switch him on and push his stomach button you hear radio static, and then if you turn his left ear you can pick up some music...but as you turn it you sometimes hear this little voice say something. It sounded just like he said "Courtney!" We must've been so funny to watch...sitting in McDonald's laughing and freaking out, bent over this little alien toy and getting as close to it as we could to hear better & figure out if he was saying "Courtney!" or not. After hearing it many times we were still convinced. We even told others in the call center about it. We were told he was saying "Oh yeah." But whatever. To me it still sounds like he's saying "Courtney," and it never fails to make me smile when I hear him say it.

We came across these hollow sand "eggs" at the water's edge at Crosby Landing Beach. Each one had a little hole in the end, and most had a larger opening on the side. There was nothing inside, but we figured it was some kind of creature dwelling.
We walked along the shore looking for one that might be inhabited, and finally we found one that had no visible hole. We opened it and found what looked like a tiny developing crustacean.
I have no idea what it is. I would love some help identifying it, if anyone has any info or ideas.
(It kind of looks like the Silkie from the Teen Titans Go! cartoon.)
