Courageous Creativity - Flying Chicadee

PRETTY EXCITING!! I was just published as the featured photographer in this ezine.

issuu.com/flyingchickadee/docs/march_2015_print Every full-page photograph is one of mine, including the front and back covers.

This is exactly what I was hoping for (apart from the coffee stains from the previous page!) I bought and used my first set of watercolour pencils...

Practice any art, music, singing, dancing, acting, drawing, painting, sculpting, poetry, fiction, essays, reportage, no matter how well or badly, not to get money and fame, but to experience becoming, to find out what’s inside you, to make your soul grow. -Kurt Vonnegut

I went to Noodles & Co. with Jenn today. :) We stole about 10 chopsticks, and 3 take out container, in the name of creativity! :D

"Creativity is not device dependent." - Bruce Mau

i have been experiencing artist block..as i'm sure everyone does who takes on the challenge of a 365.. i started out on this expressive journey asking for guidance and to let the creativity flow through me...

and i sometimes think way to much-- get into my head.. which blocks that creative flow.

so today i just took some random shots- not much thinking.. and even when i started to put the layers on top of the image i selected, i remembered to leave that space, and ask for the guidance. this is the image that came into expression. :)

the roses are from my front porch..

i added the arm with the paintbrush & palette after looking at the image and deciding it needed something. it is my arm but from another shot. photoshop is amazing! (don't look too close!!!)

Study of the day:

. . The chaos is not a shapeless state, or a confused and inert mixing, but rather the place of a plastic and dynamic becoming. (...) Philosophy, science and art are "drawing plans" on the chaos, they are the three chaoïds. Philosophy on its plane of immanence of ideas and concepts, science on its plane of consistency of variables and functives, and art on its plane of composition of affects and percepts." (...)

Took this the other night on the way home from work after it had snowed. Its a dead tree in a field in Healing Village near Grimsby. I have been wanting to capture this tree in some way for a while so I went to see what it looked like with snow on it. Used my kit lense 18 to 105. F10. ISO 200. 20sec exposure. Tripod mounted. Used a Lenser LRD Torch to paint the tree in light. The image staight out of the camera was a little dissapointing (dull with no depth) but I pressed Auot Correct in windows picture manager and the vivid orange came out. The tree isnt too far from the road so I am assuming the colour comes from light pollution off the stree lamps. Not 100% happy as I think it would be better if the tree was painted with the torch light a bit more on the outer branches to the top. I went with a friend of mine who took some shots but we where cold and already late home so I only got a couple of images. I may go back for another try if it snows again.

#2284 - 2014 Day 92: We had another artist exchange today with inspirational Meg Robinson. I have known Meg for some time now and have been moved by every aspect of her life story. One corner of her studio encapsulates it for me: the artist, the writer, the traveller through South America; a self fully expressed.

In addition to the pleasure of engaging with my own guests, I took a little time to critique a few images by Merxe, a young neighbour of Meg's who has taken to photography as a means for her own self-expression via her blog. What a joy to see photographs made unconstrained, unconditioned and unreserved. I was moved hugely by the experience. Thank you Meg, once again, and thank you Merxe.

Marinovators showcased the creativity of Marin County students in a day-long exhibition at the College of Marin. The event attracted hundreds of children, parents, teachers and local makers, featuring a wide range of science, tech and maker projects: from virtual reality to robots, bio-hacking, drones and paper airplanes.

Geo Monley’s high school maker class showed off ‘MakersField’ -- a cool animatronic city they built together this year at Tam High School in Mill Valley. City features include a lighthouse, illuminated trees, robots, power plants -- and Trump Towers.

Geo and I introduced Tam Makers, our new makerspace and community education program. We offer maker courses, meetups and for adults, high-school and middle-school children. Many visitors stopped by to discuss this project, sign up for some of our classes, and share their feedback and ideas. The overall response was very positive, which bodes well for us.

It was a fun and productive day, and a great way to catch up with the growing maker community in Marin, as well as reconnect with old friends.

Last version of my Creativity piece. Thanks to alreadybeenchewed.net (Barton Damer's blog) for the light streaks. Worked on this for about 4-5 hours on and off for about 2 days. Made the creativity letters and explosion FX in cinema 4d, along with the wireframe on the A of creativity, used cel renderer for that. Did post work in photoshop, manipulated colors and such.

This took, like, 30 minutes to do. I wasn't holding on to Rebecca's hair or anything, I used self-timer to do this. All I did was crop and auto-fix this.
