For Photography A-Level coursework (Year 13).

Inspired by the photographer Lucas Simoes, I added a sepia filter to the photo and adjusted it so that it wasn’t as orange-toned and intense, as I wanted the overall colour palette of the image to be more neutral and muted tones. When editing I increased the brightness and contrast slightly so that I could have more differentiation between the lighter and darker tones in the photo, as they are all similar in colour. I increased the highlights and decreased the shadows as I didn’t want the darker parts of the photo to distract from the main focal point, and I wanted keep the brighter feel in the photo. Lastly I added clarity to define the textures and highlight the smaller details such as the pattern on the wood and the texture of the knitted cardigan. The composition is successful as the model is in the foreground and lies on the right vertical line using the rule of thirds. The easel is in the background and lies on the left vertical line using the rule of thirds, by having these two things on each vertical line whilst being within different proximites of the camera balances the photo and makes it more eye-catching. Leading lines are created by the back of the chair, which leads your eyes upwards towards the model’s face which is the main focal point. Leading lines are also created by the easel and table running behind the model, leading your eyes towards her. I used an aperture of f/5 as I wanted the model to be the main thing in focus, but I also wanted the easel in the background to be somewhat in focus too as this is what is used to balance the photo. I used a shutter speed of 1/125 as the natural lighting was the main source of light in this photo, and I didn’t want to risk underexposing the photo.

A Tour Poster that I've created for Bruno Mars as a part of my A2 coursework. I wanted to aim for a retro, comic book style.

For my personal investigation I chose Upcycling. I chose to research Kurt Schwitters, as his collages were made of throw away items. This linked with my stimuli because Upcycling is all about re- using items and giving them, a whole new purpose.
