Illustration is my main chosen expression and style in fine art. During my first year of AS Level art my work was greatly influenced by photorealism; the main artist which I drew inspiration from being Alex Ross and Chuck Close. Ross known for bringing a realistic approach to the world of fictional superheroes. In the research section I used photographs of people to create a smaller practise caricatures of the images whilst trying to keep the image photorealistic. I then moved on to various other styles such as collagraph prints and cubist paintings/illustrations to broaden the breadth of my technique pallet. This all came in useful when in came to creating my final piece which went back to my original photorealism approach by creating a portrait of myself with caricature elements of swapped out parts such as hair and lips.
During my second year in A Level Art, my style was now even more focused on photorealism and illustration however I had practised incorporating other styles into my work. By developing this my work leaned towards the influence of Sam Greens tonal shapes incorporated into his portraits. I then added a twist by filling this shapes in the style of Jamie Shovlin's old tainted paper. I feel the combined practises and research I have taken over the course of A Level Art has given my work originality and flair making me an ideal candidate for your course in university fine art.

It was my first time in a studio, playing with lights and stuff, and I thought the pictures came out pretty well.

Brief: create a digital portfolio.
This digital version of a pointillist portrait was created from a tutorial in digital artist magazine. The entire image is created solely from dots and circles of varying sizes, colours and opacities. It's very detailed, particularly in the face so it was quite time consuming but the attention to detail there has certainly paid off. The tutorial used an excessive amount of dots which I thought was too much so I held it back a bit and I think it looks just as good.

My 'Pictogram' project. In this brief we had to make a set of 6 pictograms based on a theme of our choice. As I have played my fair share of videogames the choice came quite naturally to me and i decided to base it on videogame characters. I chose Rayman, Pikachu, Spyro, Sonic, Link and Mario, I used this characters as they were very popular when I was growing up and felt it was relevant to use characters I knew well. The main aim was to make them as simple as possible. There are few differences between the first two generations other than the weight of the line and changing certain parts from black to white.

A2 Textiles Coursework Project: Addictions
I have chosen to research Iris Van Herpen as she explores skeletons, which become more exposed as a person battles with this addiction.
I really like Van Herpen's use of 3D printing on this garment. The result of this technique is very delicate, it almost gives a lace effect to the garment, which I really like. I also like to use of white for the garment.
I have used fimo clay to try to recreate the 3D printing technique. I think it very effective as it lifts the garment off the page.
I also like the use of 3D printing on the other garment to create a ruffle like texture. Although a bit more harsh than the first garment, Van Herpen's work has a delicate quality which I admire.
