Spooky! This chocolate buttercream covered cake is made to look like a graveyard scene with fondant gravestones and a fondant Dracula complete with cake and blood! Bats appear to be flying around the cake with wire accents!
The secretive American Bittern, whose markings blend with the browns of the winter freshwater march was a highlight for birders, Barb and Steve Thomas as they worked part of Huntington Beach State Park during the Audubon Society's annual Pawleys-Litchfield Christmas Bird count, Thursday morning.

Kent Pietsch performing his excellent comedy turn at the 2007 EAA Arlington fly-in. The first thing to fall off his Interstate Cadet is the starboard aileron followed by sundry other items (a tire, a "flight manual" and a roll of toilet paper) from the cabin. Great fun!
They show the count-down to when the next SeaBus (it's the ferry across to North Vancouver) is leaving in minutes and seconds, so you can really be precise!

There's only two but you can use your imagination to look for more. Part of the hour or so I spent taking pictures of birds on the wing. It's challenging and rewarding.
We are very pleased to, again, be hosting, this Spring & Summer, a group of Rose-Breasted Grosbeaks. They arrived, as usual, in the first few days of May. I have seen 5 males & 2 or 3 females, so far. They are such sweet, placid birds! We really enjoy their company! They eat, mostly, black oil sunflower & safflower seeds. Here's a shot of my deck. How many grosbeaks can you find? Seen in Columbia County, New York, USA on May 4, 2012.
I bought a Minolta X570 and these are my first few rolls and attempts at shooting with film. No editing.
Oona & Helena counting the roses glued to the "Sleeping Beauty" dress. There were over 400 of them. All hand-made from toilet paper, then painted red and decorated with golden glitter glue.
