The Lyne Water is a tributary of the River Tweed which rises in the Pentland Hills of southern Scotland
This shot, taken on a fly-fishing trip features the flowering Ranunculus fluitans or "Water Crowfoot" as they dance in the trout stream.

Silvretta pass, Austria. The easiest way to the pass is by car, as you can see. Too many, unfortunately, especially in summer. Most people stay in the restaurants or have a quick look at the lake, before driving further. However, when you walk 10 minutes from the parking spot, the only thing you see and hear is nature. And nature around this lake is magnificient!
As I wait in anticipation for Spring to arrive, I can almost smell the fragrance of sweet peas. "Here are sweet peas, on tiptoe for a flight; With wings of gentle flush o'er delicate white, And taper fingers catching at all things, To bind them all about with tiny rings."

The first house was build in the thirteenth century as a hunting lodge used by the counts and dukes of Gelre. The house was named 'Pauwenburcht' (Peacock Castle) because of the white peacocks they kept there. The dukes of Gelre used to wear the feathers on their helmets.
The present house was build in 1905 on the foundations of a house dating from the seventeenth century.
Staverden Castle is build on the foundations of a seventeenth century house.
At the backside of the house lies a small island in a pond. On the the island you can find the tomb of Eleonora. This Eleonora lived at Wildenborgh Castle, one of the eight castles of Vorden. She had a lover, who went on a crusade in the Holy Land. When he was away, another man wanted to gain her by force. When her lover returned home, he was killed by his rival. Eleonora wanted to escape this evil man and fled to Staverden, where a mighty knight lived, who gave her protection. She stayed there for the rest of her unhappy life, always dressed in black.
After her death she was buried on the island in the pond. On moonlit nights, the black lady is seen there, walking to and fro on the island, wringing her hands and lamenting about her lost love.
The spectrum of colors we enjoy in Nature can be infinite. The hues, the depth and the richness in the combinations we witness don’t go unnoticed. Whether the colors are in a sunrise or a sunset, in the colorful leaves of a warm sunny Autumn day or the freshest of flowers on a Spring morning, when enjoying these colors let’s remember too that, “Softness Counts.” Softness can almost be felt within a given presentation. A family of Lapwings have chosen the side of Old Geelong Rd. as home. Old Geelong is a very busy four lane road. This one seemed to be counting the hundreds of cars that were passing.

The leaves of the Muscari plants fill my flower garden. Soon I'll remove the layer of soft Autumn leaves and greet the soil once again. Here's to digging in soil and celebrating new growth. Come on, Spring!
We held our annual butterfly count in Winneshiek County today, as part of the North American Butterfly Association's seasonal counts. The counts started as a summer Fourth of July count back in 1975 before morphing into more seasonal sessions. Lake Meyer Park's count still happens right around the Fourth of July and takes place on a Sunday so any interested people can come and participate. If you like butterflies, find a count happening near you this summer! Check out NABA for more info. This female black swallowtail was hanging out at Chipera Prairie, one of the neat natural areas that lies within Lake Meyer Park's counting circle.
