They laughed when I said someone could use a camera and count the money that way... like 'yeah people have tried with their camera phones..'. So that's when I pulled out the big guns. I don't think these things were ever invented with Digital SLRs in mind.

Fast shutter speed is required. More so than this.

Ella Fitzgerald & Count Basie, 10. Nov. 1980, Wien, Konzerthaus

Was mich am meisten beeindruckte, war die Präzision des Orchesters. Count Basie schlug nur "ein paar Noten" an, doch wie und wann er sie spielte, war genial.

Slow shutter and 2nd curtain sych, I know this is an old capture, but really this photo mean so much to me. It's my 1st professional gag and 3 months into my Langara classes, my epiphany of "hey, I am actually pretty good at this...I am like kinda awesome at capturing event..."

This girl will be a raffle girl to help raise money to pay for my daughter's hospital bills. Many of my friends are donating items to go with her. I am including a Lalatroop hat, along with her stock dress and shoes. I will have a complete list of all of the items that will be included in her raffle and more info on the actual raffle when she is finished and ready to go.

For those of you that don't know the story:

My 5 year old daughter, Ava, broke her arm and had to have surgery. She has had major nerve damage to her dominant hand and has lost movement and feeling in her index finger and thumb. Only time will tell if that movement will ever be restored, as we've been told it can take up to 2 years to really know the damage. We don't have any medical insurance and are looking at $15,000 in hospital bills so far, which doesn't include any of the doctor's bills for the 4 hour surgery and weekly doctor visits and x-rays. Needless to say, this has been extremely stressful on our family...not only worrying about whether our daughter will ever have full use of her right hand again but worrying about the financial debt that we are looking at.

Standing in a travel lane, engine idling and unattended by operator, car-seat age kid in front seat.

Drivers do whatever they want in this town and we enable it.

Incidentally, the ubiquitous jackass practice of unattended engine idling is what killed preschoolers Hayley Ng and Diego Martinez. And the driver responsible was never prosecuted; he never even got so much as a ticket. On a sidewalk. Like I said, we enable it: www.streetsblog.org/2009/01/26/many-questions-remain-unan...

I live about 10 minutes from this bust of Count Basie at the Red Bank, New Jersey Train Station. I try to get over at least once a month with Little Texas Aggie Bear and Texas Aggie Ring to clean him because he’s under power lines and the Count is usually covered in bird poop. I kind of wish that they had left him inside the station, or at least under cover next to the station.

I keep a roll of paper towels in the trunk. I’d have used bourbon to clean up the Count if I had any, but I bought a bottle of tonic water across the street.

Well, enough about “The Kid from Red Bank.” Time to fix myself a pot of bourbon and listen to some Count Basie and Joe Williams.
