well, in 2 ways. the kitchen cart is STILL half assembled - I'm going crazy here, my handyman is driving me crazy! AND see those attachments? they're on wrong... Ugh. One of these days, it'll be done and I'll have counterspace.
Oh yes, and I'm shooting in RAW now... I love love it.
Here's the view of the kitchen from the dining room door. The appliances are all staying. Look at all the cabinets, counterspace and drawers! We only have one drawer in our apartment kitchen...
If you turn right, you'll see the slider to the deck. If instead you walk toward the stove and turn left, you'll be heading back to the hallway and stairs.
We inherited a set of canisters from my mother-in law. For now they sit tucked away on a high shelf waiting for the day when we have a spacious kitchen to call our own. I imagine it to be blue and white with counterspace enough for special containers. A place for the sugar, tea, coffee, rice and barley. Sometimes I take them out and run my fingers over the grooves, I think about they way she cared for and nourished her family. Perhaps they didn't always put it into words, but I know they loved her for it.
Here is our kitchen - black marble/granite counter tops. All of the appliances are new. We bought that hightop table when we moved in since we didnt have a dining room table yet, but we have sold it. I didn't like it, and it made the space look small... so I'm looking for an island type thing to put there for storage, more counterspace, and a place for recipe books, etc.

The recipe said to put half of the cooled down bechamel into a blender, and then add basil. I didn't want to drag out another appliance, given my very precious counterspace, so I used an immersion blender.

I can't WAIT to get in here and cook. Look at that shiny new stove! And the microwave... and the dishwasher. All the counterspace. I'm a happy happy girl.

Mary demanded I include her Mickey Mouse smoothie maker because she said the kitchen looks too masculine.
I didn't want to cry when I saw this. Mainly because I knew the electric kettle had hot water for tea and the silver slow cooker had steel-cut oatmeal waiting to be consumed. Still, it's not the best of entrances to the kitchen.
In this new plan, the extended cabinets and counterspace will effectively double what's currently in there. We will most likely make the extended counterspace a couple of inches shorter than the counterspace along the sink wall, in order to have better access to the big window.
working area of the kitchen -- built in soap dispenser, garbage disposal, dishwasher, icemaker, slide out shelves, slide out garbage can cabinet, LOTS of cabinets and counterspace

A fictional typographic mark I made after watching the movie Helvetica for the first time.

Those clunky glass cabinets above the sink came within 10 inches of the drain boards on the sides of the sink, and were 20 inches deep, making the only counterspace in the kitchen completely useless.

The back wall with sink corresponds with the first befoe picture. Plenty of light, storage, and counterspace will make cooking much easier than before.

This is the top layer of three layers of Superwash Merino batting I ordered a few months ago for a very large comission of yarn. The chartruse colour is a bit more yellow than I had in mind, but I think this is going to come out fabulous! I can't wait for the cooking to be done (I use crockpot dyeing methods currently, as the kitchen is not set up with enough counterspace to dye, nor do i want my roommate going psycho on me for taking up space or splashing dye somewhere.../sigh), so it takes a few hours of cooking and then several hours of cooling to get each batch done. I'll be at this for the next several days, as i have a pound or so of fiber to dye, and not a whole lot of fiber fits in the crockpot!
This has quickly become the most cluttered area of the apartment. I don't have alot of counterspace but we have tons of cabinet space
