This is the other end from above. I've used it as a starting point for the fish. It's supposed to represent water flowing from a source (though the source at this point is not known). We have rails up above, the supports of which unfortunately seem to have been stuck in any old how. But here, I have utilised the half moons again which has allowed this one to sit more comfortably into the mosaic design.
‘When we don’t have water, we have nothing at all.’ Halko Tuka is a widow, mother of seven and a subsistence farmer in Gola village. The area is dry, and the rain is rare. As a result, farmers often find themselves unable to cultivate their crops. Paradoxically, the area is also highly prone to flooding, due to its proximity to the Awash River. When it does rain heavily, farmers risk losing their crops to the flooding waters.
The co-existence of these extreme events – droughts and floods – is likely to be exacerbated by climate change. Research finds that the Awash Basin is set to become hotter, drier, and more water scarce, especially during the April to June months, which correspond to the peak irrigation period.

The young, the older the middle aged, all getting in to the act. Gotta love the duct tape holding the shoes together.
My final concept is coping with anxiety. The methods include picking at your finger nails, grabbing your jeans, biting your finger nails, closing your eyes while grabbing your head, and clicking a pen while working on homework. Without these methods, it can lead to people having anxiety attacks more often and not being able to focus at school if there is a lot on their minds.
The first picture is something that everyone does at some point during the day, everyone picks at their nails. The second photo isn't too common but it is done more than what people think, everyone just tries to hide it. Photo 3 happens very often when you are nervous or anxious, this is probably what everyone thinks when coping with it, but it actually doesn't happen as often. Photo 4 shoes how to calm down during an anxiety attack or if there is one coming on. This helps to just breathe and realize that you need to slow down. Photo 5, even though it's really annoying and distracting to others, it works about the best. The more you move and get sound just going and hearing it and making a tune to it sometimes.

My mall isn't just a tool. It's part of the process of supplying the family with firewood for the winter months. It's a means of exercise. It's self-discipline to be outside and to fill my lungs with fresh air. It's a physical outlet, allowing me to focus all my strength toward a single burst, symbolically blowing out frustration ...if that's what I need.
My mall is part of my strategy for self-care. It's so much more than a tool.
When the leverage end of your self-care strategy becomes twisted and splintered from years of stress, some choices need to be made. Find a whole new method, or just a handle? Fiberglas for strength and durability, or wood for better shock resistance?
Or, is there a spare mall in the shed, one that's been around for a while, maybe handed down from someone older?
Either way, it's important to get back in business. A lot depends on that mall.

Coping each end of log to form the lapping joints, exactly as done on real traditional "Lincoln Logs" building sets, was done on a table saw. The trick is to pair up two logs by screwing them together at their center. This keeps them from rolling. You then use a miter gauge, set the blade to 1/2" high, and take multiple passes to create the dadoes. No sweat, just takes some time.
In this shot, two of the logs have just been ripped. See, the first logs on the left and right sides must be half-logs. To rip these, again I screwed two logs together, this time using the little bits of plywood as shown. Note the small chunks of plywood in the upper right, stuck in the notches. These are there to "index" the logs, assuring the notch seats are parallel so that the logs will lap properly after bing ripped. So these two started out as full logs, with flaws on the outer halves. I ripped them to 1" thick, as you see here, which is one half the diameter.
The next step right after this is to unscrew the two, then hit 'em with a palm sander to ease the edges and smooth 'em a bit.
