Masonic Cemetery No 1 was founded in 1865 by the Grand Lodge of the State of Louisiana with the petition made for the cemetery while the New Orleans was still under Union military occupation during the Civil War. There are many lodge and society tombs inside. One very interesting one is the coping of Osiris Lodge No 300 which contains 2 polished columns actually salvaged in 1922 when the old Masonic Temple on St Charles Avenue was demolished.
