I won the ruler and pattern from a give-away at Sew Kind of Wonderful.

I’ve been quietly obsessing over this ruler since seeing Jenny’s Urban Nine Patch Tutorial and Urban Deco Tutorial.I’m very much looking forward to playing with this ruler. A few ideas are already clamoring for attention.

I came by these wonderful old B & W photos by way of my aunt. She was at a Scrap Booking convention/ retreat in the Red Woods of northern Calif. This woman sitting at the same table as my aunt, threw out three old photo albums full of family photos & post cards from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. The lady said the albums once belonged to her mother in law and since she didn't know the people in the photos she tossed the albums in the trash. My aunt later went dumpster diving and initially gave me one album and she kept the other two, then had a change of mind and gave me the other two albums.

You don't have to know the people to enjoy the photos. Well just like the old sayings go, "A picture is worth a 1000 words", or "One man's trash is another man's treasure"

Hey I could use a little help. If you recognize people or places or vehicles please speak up, add your comments please.

"I am leaving soon, and you will forgive me if I speak bluntly. The universe grows smaller every day, and the threat of aggression by any group, anywhere, can no longer be tolerated. There must be security for all, or no one is secure. Now, this does not mean giving up any freedom, except the freedom to act irresponsibly. Your ancestors knew this when they made laws to govern themselves and hired policemen to enforce them. We, of the other planets, have long accepted this principle. We have an organization for the mutual protection of all planets and for the complete elimination of aggression. The test of any such higher authority is, of course, the police force that supports it. For our policemen, we created a race of robots. Their function is to patrol the planets in spaceships like this one and preserve the peace. In matters of aggression, we have given them absolute power over us. This power cannot be revoked. At the first sign of violence, they act automatically against the aggressor. The penalty for provoking their action is too terrible to risk. The result is, we live in peace, without arms or armies, secure in the knowledge that we are free from aggression and war. Free to pursue more... profitable enterprises. Now, we do not pretend to have achieved perfection, but we do have a system, and it works. I came here to give you these facts. It is no concern of ours how you run your own planet, but if you threaten to extend your violence, this Earth of yours will be reduced to a burned-out cinder. Your choice is simple: join us and live in peace, or pursue your present course and face obliteration. We shall be waiting for your answer. The decision rests with you."

A skateboard I made for an, as of right fake skateboard company: Psychotic Skateboards. The graphic is inspired by skateboard grpahics of the '80s, particularly the skull-and-sword by Powell Peralta, which can be found here: www.subvert.de/shop/images/Powellskull&sword.jpg and here: stokedskateboards.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image... The name "Psychotic Skateboards" -- which will always be a skateboard company inspired by old school designs and graphics whether or not it ends up being an actual company -- is inspired by Vision's Psycho Stick, which can be found here: www.skateboard-decks.info/psycho-stick/ I guess that works since "psycho" and "psychotic" go hand in hand.

I was goin' for somethin' as sort of a tribute. The dagger under the character's face isn't supposed to look like it's stabbing him if it does, but to show that he's afraid of sharp things, which is why he's psychotic/crazy-looking. Plus, his eyes look like egg yolks, which I felt was a nice though. I originally misspelled "psychotic," so to kinda make up for that I made another logo (the one with the letters colored in) and just put it over the one I messed up on. Not the best way of trying to make up for it, I know, because if you look closely, you'll see that I had to cover up my mistake, but I think that adds a neat effect because if this were an actual skateboard, it would look like the logo is slapped on like a sticker instead of being drawn in without anything implying it's supposed to unintentionally represent a sticker that's been slapped on. I think that's it for now. I'll probably do some other like this in the future. In no way is this intended to make fun of those who are mentally ill.

It's been a little over a year since I did a stencil, and I had of a hankering to do one. I made this cover for my buddy Marc from my church. He wanted me to put a CD together for him, so I did, which was fun. I was originally gonna do the stencil work in Photoshop with my Wacom tablet, but that didn't work out so well because the stencil work ended up being bigger than necessary.

I represented two musical notes, a bongo drum, a microphone, a guitar, and a crayon/rocket-type deal. Just wanted to do something simplistic in regards to stencil work as well as the fact that I didn't do anything to change the color of the paper.

I guess the name "Mixin' Variety" comes from the fact that I mixed a variety of music to create a mix CD.

The track list is as follows...

1. King Tubby - Natty Dub

2. Bob Marley & The Wailers - Pimpers Paradise

3. Steel Pulse - Roller Skates

4. Curtis Mayfield - Superfly

5. Sly & The Family Stone - Dance to the Music

6. Sounds Like Chicken - El Chupanebre (Killbot Mix)

7. Blues Traveler - Crash & Burn

8. Glassjaw - Mu Empire

9. Thursday - We Will Overcome

10. The Factiom - Skate & Destroy

11. Dead Kennedys - Police Truck

12. Take It Back! - All That Keeps Us Strong

13. The Rekoning - I Believe

14. Project 86 - Hollow Again

15. Pulse Ultra - Big Brother

16. Led Zeppelin - Whole Lotta Love

17. The Jimi Hendrix Experience - The Wind Cries Mary

18. The Beatles - Come Together

www.ted.to/kome/index.html - For some of the memories of the station.

I did a longer write-up on this moments ago, but I was a dork and forgot to save it. Ugh.

Anyway, I grew up seeing these stickers - remnants of a legendary San Jose FM station that started out free-format in 1971, and even in its final years as an alternative rock station (1994 through 1998 and their end.), they played songs other area stations wouldn't touch. (I distinctly remember hearing Negativland's "U2" parody song (complete with Casey Kasem outtakes!) in 1990 when I was traveling through the area, and of course, Sublime's song about dating and things going wrong (That's all I'll say about it here, though I do a karaoke version of the song at Gamba in Cupertino every once in a while. ^_-;)) - I remember the stickers, and now I have three of my very own. They're getting saved somewhere... uh-huh!

Recorded for The Coca-Cola Company in 1971 by as a promotional advertisement with McCann-Erickson, and pressed and distributed to radio stations across America in 1971 to promote Coca-Cola.

This ad spawned a full-length song, due to listener requests, as well as a TV advertisement, and a re-recording by The Hillside Singers, a Christmas version of the ad and song, and a reunion version in 1990. (And a 2010 ad featuring their lineup of NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers Coca-Cola sponsored. Whee... :P)

Anyway, a bubbly bit of history, now in the Raider3 Archives. ^_^
