Christmas this year in Munich was fairly warm, but was it really warm enough for surfing?

A computer's CPU cooling fan added to the GTOCP3 controller box of the AP3600 El Capitan mount to inhibit overheating.

As long as the ambient air temperature is cooler than the controller box's operating temperature, this simple fan and radiator fins will keep the controller's electronics several degrees cooler.

Initial tests were good, preventing the controller from reaching 100F.

A simple bent-wire clamp holds the fan to the box, with thermal grease providing a convective bond with the flat surface of the controller.

St James' Church at Cooling in North Kent is now in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. It dates from the late 1200s but may replace an earlier Saxon church on the same site. The nave, chancel and the lower part of the tower were built 1280 to 1320AD but the tower did not reach full height until about 1400AD.

www.flickr.com/photos/barryslemmings/sets/72157629378105780/ to see the full set.

Its fame comes from the Victorian period when novelist Charles Dickens lived at nearby Gads Hill. The church is believed to be the inspiration for the churchyard scene in Great Expectations where young Pip meets the convict Magwitch. The 13 child graves near the church door are also believed to be the inspiration for the five graves of Pip's siblings in the same book. These have since become known as 'Pip's Graves'.

Internally the 40-foot long chancel is almost the same length as the 50-foot nave. There is sign of various 19th century restorations while the wooden medieval north door is still hanging on its hinges but the doorway behind is blocked solid. The font is 13th century and probably the oldest item inside the church. The pulpit is made of 18th century material recut in the 19th century. In the chancel the south wall has a sedilia and a rare double piscina. The double piscina dates this area to 1272-1307AD.

A unique feature at Cooling is the vestry wall which is decorated with hundreds of cockle shells. This is probably Victorian and may refer to the scallop shell emblem of St James the Great. An unusual wall memorial on the wall behind the pulpit records the drowning of a seaman who fell overboard off Rio in 1852.

Mr Woodley is very proud to announce that this image featuring himself has been incorporated into a powerful short film by Dean Omori. Dean is a remarkably talented award winning film-maker based in Norwich, England.

There is a link to Dean's movie page on his Flickr profile.

Mr Woodley's image appears fleetingly towards the end of the intense, thought-provoking and perhaps slightly disturbing work entitled "A BURLESQUE OF SCHUBERTIAN BEAUTY".

Not everyone would find it easy viewing; but Mr Woodley just thinks it's cool to be a film star.

Signed copies available in the foyer.

Here are some of the other kids in the HOPE group. They decided it would be fun to bury each other in the sand at the base of the dunes. What's funny is that the shelf of sand behind the buried girl's head acted as a ramp, and several kids actually jumped their "sand discs" over her head without incident. I wanted so badly to be buried, also, since the sand is always cool. The white color reflects most of the heat and sunlight, so even in the hottest summer days the sand stays cool.

I find this super interesting. It may take a while for me to figure out a use for it, but it will happen!
