Nothing sums up the day's temperature better than this westbound Metra pulling into Fairview. I spent most of my visit camped out in the depot only emerging when action was at hand.

Introduced, cool-season, annual, tufted grass to 1 m tall. A native of the Mediterranean, it is common on the black soils of the Western Plains and a common crop weed. Occasional on the coast in wet areas.
Cool seat !!!!!! When I saw this I had a chuckle to myself. I do wish my friend Doreen had been there I guess a few comments would have been made between us......followed by more laughter, lol.
I downloaded some frosty brushes (www.obsidiandawn.com) so as you can see from the edging I have had a play around. Imagine, in this cold weather I am using a frosty brush.

THANKS FOR LOOKING.....CATCH YOU LATER.....HAVE A NICE WEEKEND
The Alaska Ski for Women is an annual event, held on Super Bowl Sunday, at Kincaid Park in west Anchorage. The 2011 ski was held on 6 Feb 2011 on a bitterly cold day.
The Ski for Women is a big fundraising event with the proceeds going to agencies that specialize in dealing with abuse and violence against women and children.
The ski is part fun and part competition with a lot of cool costumes; there was an incredible turnout considering how cold and windy it was. I was there for a little over two hours and could barely feel my toes and fingers despite being prepared for the cold - but it was definitely worth it.
Good fun for good causes - Alaskan women do rock!

From the Museum's website:
The Royal Aircraft Factory’s SE5A was one of the Allies finest fighting scouts of the First World War. It entered service in 1917 and at a time when rotary engines dominated it was fitted with the 150hp Hispano-Suiza water-cooled V8. Not only did it prove to be an excellent fighting machine, it was also easy to build and maintain. It was used by all the Allied top “aces”.
Our 7/8th scale replica was built by Dennis Mitchell, and flew with a modern engine. It was donated to the Museum in 1995, and it was decided to cease flying and replace its engine with a scaled replica of the Hispano-Suiza. This was built without plans by the Museum’s Jeff Phillips.

I have to be honest, being near those marvelously massive camel made me nervous.
I was stereotyping that in the back of the mind of the camel, i might be doing something that he might be interpreting as being aggressive behavior.
with ease and cool about it, the camel passed by me and as if he was saying, Dude you're in the middle of the road ! step aside or one of us will be road kill !!. .
