On Friday, February 7, 2014, high school and middle school students dashed into the icy Atlantic as part of Special Olympics Virginia’s largest fundraiser: The Polar Plunge and the Cool School Challenge.
“Raising one million dollars for the fourth year in a row is incredible,” said Rick Jeffrey, Special Olympics Virginia president. “More importantly, though, these funds will help us to build bigger, better, more inclusive communities across the state of Virginia.”
In addition to the money raised, they got to take the icy dip into the Atlantic, all while earning a Friday “pass” from school, earn community service credit, Costume contests – prizes for best dressed male and female, prizes for teacher or team sponsor, and freezing photos.

Or fineness and roughness.
While reading my morning paper, I came across an advertisement that 1) The Goodman Studio has a glass blowing demo today; 2) there is an annual sale happening; and 3) the handmade-in-Toronto glassmaking studio is only 15 minutes away from my home in an industrial area.
The Goodman Studio doesn't sell direct to the public and the workshop isn't open to the public normally, so I grabbed my camera to have a look.

In most cases you would have thought a coal fired power station situated within a beautiful tree lined gorge would be an abomination. Not so with Ironbridge, where strangely the overbearing cooling towers somehow provide a link between the areas present; and rich industrial past.

This guy was sitting in a used book shop, in an old armchair, reading. I took the photo without him knowing. Hopefully he won't mind.
We spend a wonderful time with those kids. They wanted me to take thousand pictures of them, and they wanted to take pictures of me and they were so excited! Our Uyghur was quite limited but a few words of Chinese and a lot of gestures were enough to have fun on that day :)
My cool girls were moved down to the cabinet so all the frilly girls could be together.
Redressed Lisa and Cece (Aya and Kirsche) and really like how they match.

..... if you are a 15 year old surf chick it is anyway :) Made for my youngest by her 16 year old big sister - entirely hew own design and creation. Cool eh?
The surf board on top is ceramic handpainted by the birthday girl last summer dreaming of winning the lottery, moving to the coast and designing her own board for real.

Starting in May and running through till the end of Summer, every first Wednesday of the month sees downtown Pleasanton closed to evening traffic and a big street party is held. This evening (May 1, 2013) saw this year's first "1st Wednesday" street party take place, with what seemed to be most of the town turning out!
This particular shot is from the P-town Push Rods display in the middle of Downtown where some cool old cars that are beautifully maintained by local enthusiasts were on display for all to see.
