Good morning everyone :)
Happy Friday! ... as the weather has totally cooled down here, I thought that sharing this collection might be appropriate. You can find the link to it {plus detailed links to each shop & prices} right here, where I shared some thoughts on the subject of "Staying in - the new going out", the original title of this treasury recently curated [more treasuries here & there]. You are always welcome & invited to join in if you wish!
For those of you who' d like to know, I'm currently involved in the designing process of our soon to be new home {not a piece of cake, I assure you, as the space has off course its advantages but quite a few shortcomings, too}, while also sorting out & packing our things & preparing/ planning our movement.
It's a good chance to review some past approaches to life & I'm seeing that more and more, having less & less things attracts me.
I prefer to sort things out, keep the ones that are really needed, functional and definitely aesthetically pleasing / while totally matching the home's "outfit", than over stuff a place with storage for things of no use.
So, you have noticed that I'm rarely here, paying visits is also only but an exception for the time being. I'm looking forward to a few weeks from now, having settled in, and for the first time then, saying that I'll devote all the time that I wish, strolling through flickr and spending time with you!

These painted signs were recently exposed after the demolition of an old building in Downtown El Paso. The John T. Muir Building was built by Trost and Trost architects in 1916. It was originally a beautiful building but had been remodeled at some point. Our City council voted to demolish it because: "It is not on the historic register, It's a non-contributing historic building and it has been irreparably altered." Sad - but cool that these signs were exposed!

In this hot and sometimes brutally unforgiving land, one last-chance rite of passage stands between the traveler on the side of civilization, with its sometimes weary fussing of noise and color, and the quiet, strange beauty of the Oatman Highway and Sitgreaves Pass, enveloped in the mystical stone arms of the Black Mountains. That rite of passage is Cool Springs.
Built in the 1920s, Cool Springs boasts a strong and unusual pedigree. Unlike its name, it has risen like the phoenix from the ashes of its own destruction more than once over the course of its still-continuing lifetime. Previous owners the Walkers, Floyd Spidell, and the Schoenerrs all fell under Cool Springs' spell and for thirty years provided travelers one last opportunity to fortify their supplies and courage before attempting the dangerous Sitgreaves Pass.
With the bypassing of the Route in the late 1950s, an inexorable downward spiral began for Cool Springs, culminating in its total destruction by fire in the mid-1960s. It lay dormant until its first resurrection in 1991 as the setting for the movie Universal Soldier, only to be destroyed again and forgotten soon after.
In 1997, Ned Leuchtner, a traveler through the area, fell in thrall to the siren song being sung in his ear. It took until 2004, but on Pearl Harbor Day, the rebirth of Cool Springs was complete, and the lights awoke once more. It's only fitting to note that they had been dark since 1966.
