Cool rust red building in Copenhagen

Cooling tower base at Drax Power Station, Selby.

Ever since I took this photo on a 35mm compact camera in the mid 90's I wanted to straighten a few of the shutter lines and centralise the tower a little bit.

When I first scanned the image I didn't know how to do this and also preferred it in B&W, here the image in colour with just a couple of tweeks, I may convert it to B&W again at some stage.

Every day we had to climb 100m/330ft of ropes to get to work, it took us 3 days to install the access up the cooling tower, thankfully there was only 8 of them!

When I see nice old cars when working I try to get my camera and photograph them. I hope everyone has a great Sunday. :D

Marché Bonsecours adjacent to Montréal's Old-Port. January 2016

Bonsecours Market, at 350 rue Saint-Paul in Old Montreal, is a two-story domed public market. For more than 100 years, it was the main public market in the Montreal area. It also briefly accommodated the Parliament of United Canada for one session in 1849.

Named for the adjacent Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel, it opened in 1847. During 1849 the building was used for the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada.

Cool jazz is a style of modern jazz music that arose in the United States after World War II. It is characterized by relaxed tempos and lighter tone, in contrast to the tense and complex bebop style. Cool jazz often employs formal arrangements and incorporates elements of classical music. Broadly, the genre refers to a number of post-war jazz styles employing a more subdued approach than that found in other contemporaneous jazz idioms. As Paul Tanner, Maurice Gerow, and David Megill suggest "the tonal sonorities of these conservative players could be compared to pastel colors, while the solos of [Dizzy] Gillespie and his followers could be compared to fiery red colors."

The term cool started being applied to this music around 1953, when Capitol Records released the album Classics in Jazz: Cool and Quiet. Mark C. Gridley, writing in the All Music Guide to Jazz, identifies four overlapping sub-categories of cool jazz:

1 "Soft variants of bebop," including the Miles Davis recordings that constitute Birth of the Cool; the complete works of the Modern Jazz Quartet; the output of Gerry Mulligan, especially his work with Chet Baker and Bob Brookmeyer; the music of Stan Kenton's sidemen during the late 1940s through the 1950s; and the works of George Shearing and Stan Getz.

2 The output of modern players who eschewed bebop in favor of advanced swing-era developments, including Lennie Tristano, Lee Konitz, and Warne Marsh; Dave Brubeck and Paul Desmond; and performers such as Jimmy Giuffre and Dave Pell who were influenced by Count Basie and Lester Young's small-group music.

3 Musicians from either of the previous categories who were active in California from the 1940s through the 1960s, developing what came to be known as West Coast jazz.

4 "Exploratory music with a subdued effect by Teddy Charles, Chico Hamilton, John LaPorta, and their colleagues during the 1950s."

The human eye can see many things much better than the camera, dynamic range, fast focus. But it cannot see what is revealed in long exposures. I did not realize how the water vapor looked at the top of these cooling towers until I saw it in the camera screen after a few second exposure.

A 4 pack of treats has just arrived at Shops roundhouse in Fond du Lac off an unknown train. Say what you will about the CN, your not going to find a lash like this on any other class 1. And if you do its pretty rare.
