This is the bus in original form

Anaglyph 2D/3D conversion of an old paper cutting of a Post Office advertisement from the 1970s. The original is in my advert set. Use red/cyan glasses. Paul Sample can be found here:

History

The Newtown Depot was built in 1899-1900 following the conversion the Newtown Lines to electric traction. The Depot, although largely derelict is the oldest remaining Tram Depot in Sydney that survive in its original form.

Operations

The Depot supplied trams for services to King Street Newtown to Summer Hill, Canterbury, Earlwood, and services to Glebe and Tempe.

Demise

Tram services through Newtown were replaced by buses in September 1957 and the depot was closed. In 1960 the Depot transferred from the NSW Department of Government Transport to the NSW Department of Railways was gutted of its trackwork and tramway fixtures. The site was subsequently used variously for bus parking, private tenancies and railway uses, but is now vacant.

The depot has a heritage listing.

To my shock, I've been able to transfer all of my 650b components over to the Katakura Silk with NO MODIFICATIONS WHATSOEVER. Comparing measurements to my "made for 650b" bike frame, everything is exactly - and I mean EXACTLY - the same spacing. For the moment, I am as far along as I can be: fenders and rack can't be permanently installed until my brake calipers arrive sometime next week. I've run out of red housing; that, too, will arrive next week. Meanwhile, the wheels spin with more than adequate clearance for the 650b x 38 tires - ironic, because 25's were about the best I could do with 700c. Front and rear derailleurs are fine tuned and shifting perfectly on the stand. If I decide to keep the Brooks Pro rather than use a black Brooks Cambium C17 that I have, I'll need to add a pair of the VO bag loops for a saddle bag. Had I decided upon center-pulls rather than the dual pivots I chose, I would have installed a French mini-front rack for a small, lightweight, traditional front bag. Still not sure why I didn't go that route to be honest.

650b? It has nicely flattened/indented stays.

Another view of the back, showing the epoxy job I did on the nut on the thumb screw. The nuts I used came with a free spinning washer attached. I epxied it to the screw once I figured out how deep it had to go. This should keep me from accidentally tightening down the screw, preventing me from advancing the film.

The door that originally opened up to let you remove your Polaroid now keeps the red window covered up when not in use. I did this so I won't have to worry about possible burn through if I leave film in the camera for a long time, or film that has paper of questionable quality. The red window I drilled out and used part of a lighting gel sample behind the pressure plate. The note is there so I remember how far to advance the film since it is 6x12 format now. Only 6 shots per roll. I also added some black card stock to the left to help light proof the camera some.

My J66 sitting on my workbench (OK, it's really just my much abused washing machine) after the conversion. I forgot to take photos until I had already loaded it with 120 film so if you want to see the guts of it you'll have to wait until I finish the roll. Shouldn't take too long, since the shots are 6x12. Only 6 to a roll of film.

The bike conversion story is told here. The owner gave it up because the small wheels didn't seem to do it for him so says the chap who sold it to me from Craigslist. It doesn't actually fold as is even though it's a folder married to the cruzbike kit. The recumbent seat is clamped onto the fold so would have to be removed to fold. And the handlebar doesn't fold down as before.

I also like the idea of a cruzbike with xtracycle.

I took the long way to work today, swung by Fairmount Park. Check these reflections. The lake got all ruffled up a little while later and I had to hurry to work with a smile on my face.

The lights dim ominously and the gurney the Captain is strapped to beings to slowly lower into position. His pulse quickens as he hears powerful generators roar into life and the clicking and whirring of machinery coming from all about him.

Finally started an old project again, a converted Rei Ayanami in a test plugsuit, similar to that which Asuka wears in Evangelion 2.0 but with different colors.

Basais will be a 1:8 Asuka in teh respective suit, but I need a Rei head. Even though I have one or two optional parts in stock, these belong to other complete kits and I do not want to "donate" them.

Hence, cloning trials with resin...

Above the original head piece a Kaiyodo resin kit), and an algae/water-based mould made from it. Result was good, but the resin I poured later into it reacted with the water in the mould: bubbles, crap, next... :(

3897. The Adelaide Steamship Company 's 10,856 ton coastal liner M.V. MANOORA was requisitioned on October 11, 1939, and commissioned as an Armed Merchant Cruiser on Dec. 12.

As an AMC she carried seven 6-inch guns, two 3-inch AA, two Vickers light machine guns and a Seagull V aircraft.

MANOORA seemed to retain her merchant colours in the early part of the war. The photo above may be taken about Sept 30, 1942, when she returned to Sydney for conversion to a Landing Ship Infantry. Strange how the 'Grey Funnel Line' colours make the ship look more 'businesslike.'

Photo; RAN, it appeared in the late Lew Lind's book 'The Royal Australian Navy: Historic Naval Events Year By Year' [Reed Books, Sydney 1982] p99.

Quite expensive but the fit is really good.

For the lid, I'll just put the pillows over it before leaving the van when it's hot outside. It would be too ugly to have it insulated.
