This is the front of a super colour swinger III mounted to the back of a broken 103.

 

The pinhole is opened and closed by sliding the 75/3000 film selector lever.

 

99% full frame.

 

Has a small leak that I need to find and seal.

Quite expensive but the fit is really good.

This bike is trashed, a goner? No! you could repair the hanger but why not make it into a single speed?

I seem to be developing a bad habbit of collecting BMW engines! This is another M20 but a 2.5 this time. The plan is to buikd a 2.8 conversion. We'll see how far I get!

The kit and its assembly:

Well, this whiffy Gnat/Ajeet was actually born through an incomplete Matchbox kit that I bought in a lot a while ago. It lacked decals, but also the canopy... Vacu replacements are available, but I rather put the kit on the conversion list, potentially into a single seater.

 

Since I'd have to improvise and modify the fuselage anyway, I decided to take the idea further ans create a "supersonic Gnat". Folland actually had such designs on the drawing board, but I do not think that the company considered a twin jet layout? That idea struck me when I held a PM Model F-5A in my hands and looked at the small J85 engine nozzles. Could that...?

From there things evolved, a bit like what Fiat did with the G.91 that was turned into the G.91Y. I wanted the Gnat to become bigger, also in order to justify the two engines and the wider tail. Therefore I cut the fuselage in front of the air intakes and behind the wings and inserted plugs, each ~6mm. Not much, but it helps. I also found new wings and stabilizers in the scrap box: from a Revell Fiat G.91. More slender, more sweep, and a slightly bigger span so that the overall proportions were kept. A good addition to the sleek Gnat/Ajeet. The fin was left OOB.

 

Another personal addition is the radar nose - I found the Gnat trainer's nose to be rather pointed and long, and the radome (IIRC from an F-4E!) was more Ajeet-style, even though of different shape and suggesting a radar dish underneath.

 

The new canopy is a donation from a Mastercraft (ex KP/Kopro) LWS Iskra trainer. Even though the Ajeet II is a single seater I used the Iskra’s two-seater option in order to fill the gap above the Gnat's second seat. I just cut the Iskra canopy in two parts and used the rear half as a fuselage/spine plug – fit was pretty good.

 

The fuselage extension and the new tail section necessitated massive putty work, but the result is surprisingly organic and retains the Ajeet's profile - the whif factor is rather subtle. ^^

The landing gear was taken OOB, the cockpit interior was improvised after the fuselage was more or less finished with parts from the original kit, plus an extra dashboard.

 

The door that originally opened up to let you remove your Polaroid now keeps the red window covered up when not in use. I did this so I won't have to worry about possible burn through if I leave film in the camera for a long time, or film that has paper of questionable quality. The red window I drilled out and used part of a lighting gel sample behind the pressure plate. The note is there so I remember how far to advance the film since it is 6x12 format now. Only 6 shots per roll. I also added some black card stock to the left to help light proof the camera some.

  

This was my first day to night conversion.

FINALLY moved it out from under the sink. It was such a pain to have to open the door everytime I needed water.

Straight out of camera except for the conversion to B&W. So, technically, not straight out of camera but you know what I mean. I can't tell you how happy I am that I've managed to get a shot out of camera that doesn't require lots of tweaks. Don't go by my expression in the photo - that's for the sake of moodiness only, I'm pretty chipper actually.

 

It's a bit of a boring shot, but it's crispier than peking duck and I really like it for the fact it's not covered in layers of Photoshop trickery. It's quite similar to my shot from day 207

but I figured what the hell, it's been a couple of weeks and no one will notice.

 

Should be picking up my new stand for my flash later, so hopefully shots requiring hand held flash will be a thing of the past from now on . . .

 

Strobist info: SB600 to camera right at 1/64 power. Hand held at arms length and just below my face with the flash angled up. I used a filter on this one but I don't know what kind of filter it is. It's like black on one side, silver on the other, and it has loads of little holes ounched in it. The silver side was facing outwards so I guess the black side facing the flash would've muted the light a bit.

For the lid, I'll just put the pillows over it before leaving the van when it's hot outside. It would be too ugly to have it insulated.

The final Camera with some nice and soft Nappa-leather.

I am pretty happy with it but I messed up the leather of the front door a little.

It was my first try in converting an re-leathering so I can live with that ;)

Next time I will use thinner leather

The back I used is of a broken Polaroid 180 which was beyond repair.

Like a Phoenix from the ashes the Cyclefab Cycletruck is born anew! Once cumbersome and sluggish the cycletruck cargo bike can now support its capacity with a 350RPM eZee geared motor powered by a 846 Watt/Hour Lithium Ion Battery. The Grin Tech Phaserunner Motor controller (cast in clear epoxy!) and Cycle Analyst heads up display were manufactured up in Vancouver Canada by some rad eBike nerds. I oped for a one of the latest torque sensing bottom brackets which directly translates your pedal strokes into acceleration which simulates the feeling of a super power. Looking forward to putting some commute miles and grocery runs on this new iteration of a bike that I picked up exactly 6 years ago today!

In 1997, the PA-46 was developed from the very successful PA-36 'Nove' as a special climate conditions version - namely for the use in desert regions. Tests and tactical reports from Africa had shown that Earth Defense Forces were in dire need for a more climate-resilient powered armor than the standard PA-36s and PA-58s, which suffered heavily under dust and extremely high temperatures.

Field modifications and enhancement packages were hastily developed, but these proved to be unsuitable for the battlefield. The biggest problem was overheating and fine dust getting anywhere, especially into the engines and the joints of the legs.

 

As a consequence, the PA-46 was to be a complete package for tropic and subtropic climate and harsh conditions like low air pressure in great heights. While being based on the PA-36 hull, the 'Nettai' became an independant PA development and finally received its own designation, PA-46. As a PA-36 evolution, Its bulky hull offered enough space for additional installments like a heavy duty heat exchanger, various dust filters, a dust-repelling system based on compressed air (ducted from enhanced and dust-proof engines), an enhanced sensor package and an improved climate control for the pilot.

 

Basically, the duty profile of the PA-36 was to be kept, which included the PA's ability to make a jet-assisted jump of at least 820m at 85 km/h and keep a ground running speed of 28km/h. In order to keep up with this profile and the additional systems running in the backgorund, more powerful engines had to be installed, raising the power output from 34ps to 42ps. As a side effect, dry weight rose dramatically so that the PA-46's suspension had to be augmented, too. All in all, the PA-46's weight even outclassed the beefed-up PA-36K 'Berlon', but the PA-46 was ordered into production since no short-term alternative was in sight for troop introduction in 1999, where this special profile PA was desperately needed.

 

Around 140 specimen of the PA-46 were built and mainly used on the African continent and in Middel East Asia. While the original PA-46 was not delivered with internal wepaons, it was compatible with the full weapon range of the PA-36, what made the PA-46 very versatile. Weapon field packs like the simple HR-670 'Wrist Racate' (a set of six single 70mm 'Thunder Crush' artillery missile launchers) were other frequent additions, as well as modified and sometimes improvised communication systems.

 

Despite its sheer weight and bulk which limited its use, the PA-46 became a reliable weapon in the Northern and Middle African conflict theatre against Idelian forces and saw frequent use until 2013, when it was retired or used to retrofit PA-36 units with spare parts.

 

The Electrical Energy Conversion Laboratory is primarily used for demonstrations and lab exercises by the electrical engineering curriculum course EEN402 Electrical Energy Conversion for electrical engineering students.

 

The EEN402 Electrical Energy Conversion course is a required course in the electrical engineering curriculum where students have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with power equipment including rotating electrical machinery (DC and three phase AC generators and motors) and power transformers (single phase and three phase). In the lab section of this course, the students learn to use detailed wiring diagrams to connect electric machines with power sources, loads, and meters to perform many different types of tests and experiments that demonstrate the operational and loading characteristics of electric machine systems. There is also a strong mathematical modeling and calculation aspect to this course as well. Students learn to conduct standard machine tests from which mathematical models for the machines can be determined empirically. Loading tests are then done on the machines, and the measured quantities from the loading tests are compared to quantities calculated mathematically by the students using machine models and circuit analysis techniques.

 

The equipment used in the Electrical Energy Conversion Laboratory is manufactured by Hampden Engineering. There are three Hampden Model HMD-100CM student power consoles. Each power console is equipped with a 120/208V Three Phase Power Source, a 0-140/242V Variable Three Phase Power Source, a 0-125V 5A DC Power Source, and a 0-150V 1A DC Power Source.

My frame had vertical dropouts, which means no options for chain tensioning via wheel location adjustment, so I had to add a tensioner. I went with the Surly, which provides a great balance between weight and durability, and exceptional engineering and performance. I never lose a chain. Never. But I may not ride as hard as you, either...
