Here is the start of another batch of hockey shots, this time from the Five Counties Hockey League premier division match between Bedford Hockey Club ladies second XI and Bishops Stortford Hockey Club ladies seconds.
This is Steph, controlling the ball and turning towards the opposition goal. The game finished in a close fought 2-0 victory for Bedford.
On a freezing cold January morning with the sun out I was able to use ISO 100. I set the camera up in manual mode to avoid inconsistent metering by the camera but due to light cloud cover did have to alter the shutter speed from time to time.
EOS 40D ~ 70-200L + 1.4x TC @ 180mm ~ 1/640 ~ f4 ~ ISO100 ~ M mode.

1980年5月，70年代末崛起的英國後龐克搖滾樂團Joy Division主唱Ian Curtis，在家中自縊身亡，年僅24歲，一個青春生命的驟然消逝。【CONTROL】呈現Ian Curtis自殺之前最後幾年生活的點滴以及困境，高中校園生活到樂團的成立，奮力地掙扎於愛情與婚姻之間，以及面對時常發病，卻無法掌控的病情。導演安東寇班是知名MV導演，也是著名攝影師（作品曾於誠品藝廊展出），70年代末期開始與英國演唱團體合作，為多位知名樂團如U2等操刀。首次執導電影【CONTROL】，近乎真實電影的攝影，捕捉到Ian Curtis明星光環下情感的糾葛，很容易發現，罪惡感、羞愧、無力感等反映在Ian Curtis作品裡的主要基調，是他在面對Annik與Deborah的三角感情關係，無力解決之下的另一個宣洩出口。緩慢的節奏，沈靜的影像緩緩流動，可說是影史上最為內斂的搖滾電影，卻恰如其份的對應Ian Curtis的內在性格。（CONTROL 5/2即將上映！）

Ballast Control and Tank Gauging Systems
Overview: When Monitor Systems designed, installed and commissioned its new ballast control and tank gauging system on Transocean's MG Hulme rig in 2010, it was to replace out of date equipment difficult to maintain because of unavailable spare parts, whilst at the same time upgrading operational system reliability and performance.
Using a more compact steel control console, valuable space savings were achieved in the control room allowing for a new fire and gas panel to be installed. Whilst replicating existing control functions, benefits of the new failsafe system included new operator control graphics in an improved ergonomic layout with a host of valuable operator alarms not present in existing system monitoring tank levels, valve open and close feedback, valve operating times and pump protection via pressure alarms. Customer: Transocean.
Loom controlled supplementary weft shibori. Immersion dyed and then painted on one side with fiber reactive dyes.
This was a fantastic control with friendly and helpful SIR volunteers. I didn't grab enough of the potatos.
The Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Authority performed a controlled burn of this meadow near the entrance to Stony Creek Metropark in Washington Township, Michigan. Burning this meadow will cause more wildflowers to grow here in the summer and return some nutrients to the soil. Interesting approach....

There is a sliding door in the back of the camera to allow the use of plates.
Identifiers on camera: On the leather handle is embossed Carbine No 3A, On the focussing scale is written the word Carbine and the Winder is in the shape of the letter 'B' indicating Butchers. There is no name plate for the camera and there is no indication there ever was one.

The shutter has a piston to connect tube and bulb for pneumatic remote control
The 'O' setting on the shutter holds the shutter open for focussing without putting any tension on the shutter spring (unlike 'B' or 'T')

Focussing scale in feet only on baseboard. You can move the position of the scale for plates or for film
To be perfectly honest I have had difficulty trying date this camera. My feeling is that the presence of the 'O' setting places it somewhere around 1910. Please note this is an opinion and not an established fact.

In 1972, the control room of the 140-foot (43-meter) telescope in Green Bank, West Virginia got an upgrade. Gone were the Flash Gordon-looking analog monitors and dials and in their place was this suite of Honeywell 316 computer modules. It had 32 Kb of memory, a card reader for program loading, CRT displays, and a position panel which controlled the telescope’s position, errors, and slew rates. These days, the telescope can be run remotely from the Jansky Lab up the lane or from a laptop stashed in a cabinet in this room.

So... my friend Anna has been staying with me for about a month, and now she's gone. She left under fairly mysterious circumstances. I am more than a little worried that she is either in a cult or that she's been human trafficked, but I don't really have a way to do anything about it either way. Hopefully she's okay...
In happier news, I found a neat camera (Olympus E-PL2) at the St. Vinny yesterday, and I got to play around with it today.
