At 9:02PM on July 3, 2025, the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to the 12900 block of W Corcoran St to find flames showing from three one-story homes. Fireworks were still actively detonating in the area, contributing to the spread of the fire and threatening nearby brush and structures. Crews initiated a defensive operation to ensure firefighter safety while working to contain the fire.

The flames ultimately involved four primary homes, multiple attached and detached ADUs, and a parked vehicle on four total properties. Knockdown was declared at 9:51 PM, approximately 53 minutes after the initial report.

The fire left one person dead and five others injured. An approximately 30-year-old man was found deceased after the fire was extinguished. A 33-year-old woman was critically injured and transported to the hospital. Four others were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene and declined transport to the hospital.

Multiple animals were also injured. California Highway Patrol officers transported at least one injured dog directly to an emergency veterinary hospital, and Los Angeles Animal Services was requested to assist at the scene.

A gas leak was identified at one of the homes, prompting a response from the gas company. The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power was also called to manage live electrical wires that had fallen behind the initial three properties.

More than 130 firefighters responded, along with specialized units from LAFD Arson, LAFD HazMat, LAPD Bomb Squad, the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety, and the Mayor’s Crisis Response Team. The American Red Cross is working to assist displaced residents.

Traceries of the east window designed by Sir Ninian Comper, c1950, also known as 'the Bride's Window' after newly weds at the church following the War were asked to contribute funds towards it's installation.

Holy Trinity would have been the star attraction in any other town or city, it is a majestic cruciform 15th century Perpendicular church with a tapering central tower and spire, the second of Coventry's famous 'Three Spires'. However it has always been overshadowed by larger neighbours, having been encircled by no less than three separate cathedrals through it's history, a unique distinction! Holy Trinity was founded by the monks of the adjoining priory to act as a parish church for it's lay tenants, thus it is ironic that it has long outlived the parent building.

The earliest part is the north porch, which dates from the 13th century, but the majority of the building dates from a more ambitious phase in 15th century Perpendicular style. The 15th century rebuilding has given us the present cruciform arrangement with small transepts and extra chapels on the north side giving an overall roughly rectangular footprint. These chapels were some of many in the church that served the city's separate guilds in medieval times.

The church has gone through much restoration, most notably the rebuilding of it's spire after it was blown down in a storm in 1665. The east end of the chancel was extended in 1786 (in sympathetic style) and much of the exterior was refaced in the early 19th century in then fashionable Bath stone (which clashes with the original red sandstone).

The church luckily escaped major damage during the Coventry Blitz in 1940, largely thanks to the vigilance of Canon Clitheroe and his team of firewatchers who spent a perilous night on the roof tackling incendaries. The main loss was the Victorian stained glass in the east and west windows, which were replaced with much more fetching glass in the postwar restoration.

The most recent restoration involved the uncovering of the 15th century Doom painting over the chancel arch in 2004. Hidden under blackened varnish since it's rediscovery in the early Victorian period, it has now been revealed to be one of the most complete and important medieval Last Judgement murals in the country. There is further painting contemporary with this on the exquisite nave ceiling, painted a beautiful dusty blue with large kneeling angels flanking coats of arms on every rafter.

There are only a handful of monuments and most of the furnishings date from G.G.Scott's 1850s restoration (as does the magnificent vaulted ceiling high above the crossing) but there are some notable medieval survivals in the rare stone pulpit and the brass eagle lectern, both 15th century, along with a fine set of misericords originating from the former Whitefriars monastery church. Just a few fragments of medieval glass survive in the north west chapel.

The church is happily normally open and welcoming to visitors every day.

Contributed by Dr. Semir Vranic, University of Sarajevo. Diagnosed in a-30-year-old male on his right thigh (subcutaneously).

These family photographs were taken by Nicholson Museum curator William J Woodhouse in Australia, primarily in Sydney and the Blue Mountains.

Can you help us catalogue the Woodhouse photographic archive? Contribute by adding tags and answering the following questions in the comments below:

•What do you see? Write a brief description for this image.

•Where was this photograph taken?

•Can you find the geo co-ordinates (latitude and longitude) of this exact place? Let us know by linking to the google maps or add the co-ordinates in your comment.

•Do you know what year this photograph was taken?

About the archive:

The Nicholson Museum holds over 1800 glass-plate negatives taken by Woodhouse while in Greece in 1890s and early 1900s. A small portion of the archive also includes photographs of his family in the Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia. The collection documents important archaeological sites, significant landscapes of the Greek mainland, contemporary buildings and the people he met along the way. His archive is a rich resource capturing many sites pre-archaeological excavation and before modern industrial development. Some of the photographs were published by Woodhouse in his book 'Aetolia: its geography, topography, and antiquities' published in 1897. His desire to capture Greece on 'film', was simply put in his introduction: "History only attains its full value by borrowing actuality from geography and topography". The archive shows his love not only for the sites but also for the people and spirit of Greece.

About the project:

We are asking you to contribute to our documentation of this collection and assist us with the identification of the hundreds of different monuments and places in Greece. The title of each photograph will include the museum registration number (NM2007.##.##) and may already include a place name where museum staff or Woodhouse himself have titled the image.

All of our flikr contributors will be acknowledged when the collection is published through our online collections at the completion of the project.

The 2023 UA Intramural finale took place on March 10. Contributing student photographer is Kaia Putnam '23.

This annual festival in Montalto delle Marche, in the Province of Ascoli Piceno, Italy takes place on the nights of 12th, 13th, and 14th August, with the climax being the burning of a figurative witch at midnight above the principal piazza on the 14th. In total there are 26 'dioramas' at which children can participate in games related to the individual themes. The festival provides entertainment and refreshments.

History: Once upon a time there was an enchanted country ... Thus began the story of this event dedicated to childhood! In the summer of 92 a group of five gathered at the invitation of the Pro Loco who wanted to organize a party for children. There several ideas but in the end it was decided to use the "fairy tale" as a play and educational tool. So, reminiscing, each person tried to imagine an unrealised fantastic childhood dream party. Of course, young children are wide-eyed during stories of witches, fairies, elves and gnomes, contributed a much to supporting the yparents in creating afestival during the holidays. So, on August 14 of 1992 started the 1st edition of the "NIGHT OF THE WITCHES AND THE KFAIRY TALES" starting a success that has grown like magic over the years.

The recipe is not a magic formula, but simply presents the necessary ingredients to give life to any initiative: friendship, collaboration, sense of belonging. The charm of the fairy tale, always a metaphor of life, did the rest!

Georgia will continue to contribute to international efforts in addressing large movements of migrants and refugees - regardless of our small size or our own security challenges. - was a key note message in the speech delivered by H.E. Giorgi Kvirikashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia at a High Level Meeting on Large Movements of Refugees and Migrants held at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters today. Prime Minister also noted that 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was launched one year ago, from that very UN tribune, with a pledge that "no one will be left behind".

"With this statement the UN Member States committed to address the consequences of a migrant crisis which was already leaving millions stranded. Yet forced displacement has since then only increased, with a staggering 300 million international migrants, refugees and internally displaced persons registered this year. Against this backdrop conflicts and insecurity in parts of Africa and the Middle East continue to drive mass exodus, and the death toll of migrants crossing borders continues to climb. Millions globally are still at risk of being left behind" noted the Prime Minister of Georgia.

Head of the Government of Georgia stressed that burden of forced displacement has not bypassed Georgia.

Since the early 90s, Georgia's regions of Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region/South Ossetia have witnessed several waves of ethnic cleansing under occupation by the Russian Federation. Approximately 400 000 persons have been forcibly displaced - when Georgia's entire population makes up only 4 million. Prospects of their safe return are grim with ongoing creeping annexation and installation of barbed wire fences along the occupation line. Meanwhile, ethnic Georgians in the occupied territories continue to suffer from daily discrimination. It is simply not possible to turn a blind eye to this, and to what is going on worldwide" added the Prime Minister of Georgia.

As noted by the Head of Government, Georgia has already received more than 4 000 asylum seekers from various parts of the world, e.g Ukraine, Iraq, Syria, Nigeria, Egypt, and Somalia. Georgian Universities offer educational programmes for students from displaced communities. "We are committed to continuing our assistance in the educational sphere, together with interested partners, including donor countries or organisations that can provide financial support to this initiative" added the Prime Minister of Georgia.

In his opinion, International Organisation for Migration, Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and other international agencies have made immense efforts to alleviate the plight of victims. But the gravity of the situation requires a coordinated political response - the situation now is unprecedented. "We need to address the root causes of forced displacement to ensure the situation does not get out of control. We need to be proactive rather than reactive, prevent escalation of conflicts and preclude further waves of displacement. The question is: where do we start? Violation of international law is one of the root causes of conflicts. If we make sure that all actors abide by the law and strictly observe their commitments, we can start moving towards a more peaceful world. We can start preventing crises and the mass exodus that ensues from the millions affected. At the Istanbul World Humanitarian Summit this May we committed to promote a new approach and support the emergence of safe, dignified, and durable solutions for refugees and internally displaced persons. The right to safe return is a basic human right and it must be guaranteed, irrespective of political differences" concluded the Prime Minister of Georgia.
