Flying in Nevada we passed overtop some traffic as we were at 38,000Ft. Not a great shot but I thought I should post it.
Evolution of the STS-118 noctilucent contrail, taken on the evening of August 8, 2007, from the north side of the Pineda Causeway, overlooking the Banana River with southern Merritt Island in the distance.
Took these with my son's DSi a few months back. Had to tinker with noise reduction and all that fun stuff. The point of the photos is not the quality, but the content. I like contrails.
It seems that conditions today were ideal for producing long lasting contrails. They spread out and formed an interesting crisscross pattern in front of the sun. Some lower diffuse clouds superimposed a parhelion, while the high cumulonimbus dissipated in the cooling evening air. It was a neat sight.
