Gathered to condemn.

Women gathered to protest against the current spate of incidents of violence against women and children in Sri Lanka. The protest was organised by Women for Women. The protest was held at Lipton Circus on 20th July 2012. Women demanded the authorities to take immediate action and bring the perpetrators to justice, rather than making inappropriate comments!

A 35mm film that consists solely of black transparent surfaces runs over 150 guide rollers and thus produces a "wall of film" completely without projection. Wim Janssen's (BE) work thus evokes elements from three generations of visual media: the materiality of film, the emptiness of the video signal and the binary logic of the digital.

Local civil rights leader Dr. Josie R. Johnson was the featured speaker at Concordia University, St. Paul’s 2013 Bartling Lecture on Wednesday, Oct. 16. At the lecture, the Bartling Scholarship was presented to this year's recipient, senior history major Rebecca.

Johnson has been an activist for equality for more than five-decades and is one of Minnesota’s most celebrated civil rights leaders. Johnson, now 83, has been active in the civil rights movement since her teen years when she and her father gathered signatures for an anti-poll tax petition in Texas. In 1963, she led the Minnesota delegation to the historic March on Washington. A year later, she and a multi-racial group of women conducted a secret fact-finding mission to Mississippi. Their goal was to witness first-hand the plight of African Americans who were trying to register to vote. Most recently, Johnson fought against the Voter ID initiative in Minnesota and continues to speak out in the wake of the Supreme Court’s recent decision to gut the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

The Bartling History Lecture Series launched in 2011, with an inspiring speech by Dr. Fred Bartling Sr. about his experiences as a pastor in the Deep South during the early days of the Civil Rights era. The lecture series, along with the Fred and Ruth Bartling Scholarship, were launched to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Dr. Bartling’s arrival at Concordia. The lecture series focuses on issues of human and civil rights; both important themes in Dr. Bartling’s distinguished teaching career.

Singapore's Boat Quay, along the Singapore River, the place where it all started, where the tradewares would come to shore. The old shophouses are now mainly restaurants and bars, but trade continues until now with the main bank buildings and stock exchange just behind Boat Quay.

Continuing my "Adventures in Film" series on my blog, here's one frame taken with the Nikon F3 on the beautiful Kodak Tri-X 400.

I used the MF Nikon 50mm f/1.8 lens for this frame.

The film was rated at box speed.

The frame was scanned with an Epson V750.

Continuing the series of derelict buildings in Arbroath in 1967, here is a three-storey dwelling in Chalmers Street. There is no sign of it now, as Chalmers Street consists of relatively new houses, and the broo.

At Wellington Square, Whoray Shop in association with Hunter-Toys hosted Dr Who, Star Wars & movie-related costumers who patrolled the shopping centre, while one of their empty units hosted a collectors' fair of sci-fi & TV/movie related stalls.

Laurence Wall is...well, he's got a presentation style all his own on CBC Radio One here in Ottawa. To best appreciate his work, you need to see him at work.
