Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley continued an Alabama tradition that dates back more than 60 years by officially granting a Thanksgiving Pardon to Clyde the Turkey, at the Governor's Mansion in Montgomery, Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016. Becky Sloan of Bates House of Turkey in Greenville continued the tradition started by her father Bill Bates in 1949, by bringing Clyde and companion Henrietta to the Governor's Mansion for the pardoning. Others delivering remarks included John McMillan, state Agriculture Commissioner and Johnny Adams, CEO, Alabama Poultry & Egg Association. Kindergarten students from Riverchase Day School entertained the crowd with songs about Thanksgiving. Teacher Lynne Shanks presented the Governor with a quilt designed by the students to donate to a local charity. (Governor's Office, Sydney Foster)

Continuing my quest for five photos on a specific topic (5X) during each month of the year, a challenge started in 2018... my first for 2025, five birds seen at a nature reserve local to me on a cold, crisp winter morning. Some of the birds are in their winter plumage. Clockwise from top left: Black-headed gull; Canada goose; Great crested grebe; Young mute swan (cygnet); Common moorhen.

I got some "daylight simulating" bulbs and OH MY GOD are they blindingly bright. I have no natural light inside so I really need to be able to use my lightbox in a pinch, but I have trouble getting it lit up enough/evenly. I need at least one more lamp.

(I constructed this DIY lightbox, nicknamed Quasimodo, from this tutorial.)

continuing with the insect/bird images.....8" x 10" plus painted frame, oil/canvas. sold.

I’m going to visit Deb next week and house sitters are coming to look after the dogs, chickens and plants. I have so many yard projects on the go and as a side effect the front of the bunkie go used as a temporary holding area. It also became an eyesore and today it got cleaned up. The cleaned area is featured in the comments.
