As part of a continued partnership between University of Iowa Health Care STEM Education programs and Workplace Learning Connection, 16 students from various high schools in the area visited the UI Health Sciences campus to participate in a Junior Mini Medical School experience. The students engaged in a performance-based assessment session where they got to be the doctors to figure out the diagnosis of their patients and learn basic physcial exam skills. Finally, the students visited with current medical students in an anatomy overview where they learned about the heart, lungs and brain and had an open discussion about medical school.

July 16, 2024 — Glen Cove, NY —Governor Kathy Hochul announces continued progress in bringing down gun violence and overall crime on Long Island. Shooting incidents with injury decreased 44 percent as reported by the Nassau, Suffolk and Hempstead Police Departments, which all participate in the State's Gun Involved Violence Elimination program. Across Long Island, statistics show a 15 percent overall decrease in index crimes, as well as a 16 percent reduction in property crimes, during the first quarter of 2024. Governor Hochul also announced the investment of more than $50 million for public safety in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, the largest such State investment in history, which was included in this year's State Budget.
