I've photographed 'Drawing for Free Thinking' by David Tremlett in the lobby of Tate Britain before but never been happy with the composition. Really happy with this one and the fact the woman is wearing a mask was the cherry on the icing on the cake.

When I visited Tate Britain a few weeks ago it was probably the quietest I've ever seen it. Due to lingering Covid restrictions it was advance tickets only so that may well have been a part of it.

From the Tate Press Release, "Drawing for Free Thinking is a new wall drawing for Tate Britain, designed to wrap around the Manton stairwell. Inspired by the long tradition of twentieth-century constructivism and by David Tremlett’s involvement in conceptual art in the 1970s, Drawing for Free Thinking consists of broad blocks of strong colour, straight lines, squares and rectangles. It explores floor plans and architectural features the artist has encountered at the gallery such as doorways or windows abstracted into geometric shapes. Tremlett and his team of assistants work with pastel crayons which they rub directly onto the wall with the palms of their hands.

The work forms part of the Tate Britain Millbank Project refurbishments."

The old series keeps plugging along.

A more playful take on the Ralph Lauren window. This time the image and title are a nod to one of the great psychedelic songs of the 60's, which too attaches to a paradigm seemingly extinct. The choice of Jefferson Airplane again just seems to suit the image.

For good or for prissy ill, this striking window hits a chord. One can only hope that there's actually some deeper thought and consideration behind the reference back to the 60's ... on 5th Avenue.

Music Link: "White Rabbit" - Jefferson Airplane, from their album "Surrealistic Pillow". The song uses Lewis Carroll's famous "Alice in Wonderland" imagery to describe the psychedelic, or should I say "psychotropic", experience.

"Postcard" 2 from The Cathedral of St. John the Divine. This time focusing on the sculptural, architectural forms of the Cathedral itself.

Some might read my "tumbling" of churches and cathedrals as "DE-structive", and while there is an element of questioning by radically altering the consensus view of the buildings, it's not meant to connote a criticism of the institution itself. Although I do believe that RE-viewing what these places mean and can do, is in order. But that only falls into the bigger picture of the major paradigm shift that calls the last 1,000 years of Western history into question.

So the "tumbled" cathedral instead, depicts, so to speak, a re-thinking or restructuring of the current view - definitely not it's destruction. A cathedral in the process of re-shaping itself.

Music Link: "Lux Aeterna" - Gyorgy Ligeti, Hungarian composer. This haunting, evanescent, cloudlike music is largely remembered as one of the 3 Ligeti pieces that Stanley Kubrick used for his soundtrack to "2001: A Space Odyssey".

Ligeti's genius was in creating music as sheets of colour and tone ( timbre, in music ) through unconventional 'clustering' of notes and sonorities that shifted and moved indefinably at different times, 'wafting' through a kaleidoscope of sonic colours to create a powerful, weightless music that is unforgettable.

Although Ligeti was quite clear that this piece was not religious in nature, it nevertheless has a mystical quality to it that speaks of something beyond the every day.

Like the stern or aft deck of a gigantic sail ship covered with 'pilgrims' sailing to a new land, the 'Tumbling' of the image further emphasizes the intense concentration of humanity in Times Square. Whether that be just in terms of numbers of present bodies, or all the many creations of the human mind from sidewalks, benches, tables and chairs to Broadway posters, tour buses, video billboards, glass towers and ticket booths, Times Square has little or nothing to do with Nature, per se, and everything to do with humanity.

Music Link: "Oddweird", Ozric Tentacles. From their album "The Yumyum Tree". "Oddweird" seemed like a good choice to lend it's airy mood to this bucolic moment in the middle of unbridled chaos.

Currently in the exhibition "In the Eye of the Storm. Modernism in Ukraine" in the Lower Belvedere in Vienna

"This comprehensive exhibition is the first presentation outside Ukraine to explore the development of modern art in the cultural centers of Kyiv, Lviv and Kharkiv during the first half of the 20th century. Modernism in Ukraine is revealed to be both international and avant-garde. From Jugendstil to Constructivism, the exhibition tells the tempestuous and fascinating history of cultural identity in Ukraine." www.belvedere.at/en/eye-storm

2009 kamen 451.000 Besucher. (Wikipedia)

Linderhof Palace is in Germany, in southwest Bavaria near Ettal Abbey. It is the smallest of the three palaces built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria and the only one which he lived to see completed.

Oldie 2005, cleaned up, renamed..

Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam presents Edward Krasiński (1925-2004), a leading figure in the Polish avant-garde of the 1960s and 1970s. A really surprising and great exhibition.

In this piece I was looking at balancing vertical lines with gentle curved elements at 90 degrees to set up a visual oscillation and playing with painting some elements and leaving others to achieve the same effect.
