Just because I had walked for an hour I was sweating. When I took this picture, he had already worked- and that's a very hard work- for several hours......

Lots of noisy things happening outside today! School construction progressing.

I have an Instagram account for my construction photos, and I'm uploading here to get there. So, lots of construction photos. Sorry.

One last major project for the year involved adding new maintenance free fascia and soffits to the house. Having some handsome young construction workers doing the job was a side bonus!

Small-town construction crew...

Brisbane, California, July 2020

In his letters from Dawson Creek, British Columbia, Bill wrote that parcels of 100 acres were cleared in 1943 for warehouses and barracks like this one for the thousands of workers building the Alaska Highway. All those men (they were all men) needed supplies, clothing, tools, equipment, water, electricity, fuel and food, thousands of tons of it, and places to sleep.

In a letter from Dawson Creek dated April 28, 1943, Bill described the barracks. “The building, which includes the kitchen, dining room storage and two bunk rooms, is about 180 feet (55m) long by 20 feet (6m) wide… The storage and recreation room is 20 feet, then the dining room which seats 56 at 7 tables, the kitchen, and then a lean-to that is for storage and the ice box. The three cooks [Bill was one of them at the time] have their bunks separate and there are eight of us in this part.”

Here are a couple photos from a construction themed shoot I planned. I had really wanted to try this type of rim lighting and when I found two male friend/models I pounced on the opportunity to dress them up as construction workers!!! The best part of the shoot was watching them making a fool of themselves spread Canola Oil on themselves for the *shine*.

Strobist Info:

Two portable speedlights (Nikon SB25, Canon 580EXII) each positioned to the left and right, behind the model. Each speedlight is gobo'ed to protect the camera from lens flare. Key light is created with giant reflector in front of the models.

This worker caught my eye, so I shot this as I was crossing the street.

Just glad my arse did not get swiped by a bus or cab while I took several to get the comp of the worker and the cross :)

this one goes out to all the clueless foreign workers who work building our homes, paving our roads, cleaning out the sewers and all the other work that maldivians are too proud to do, an that too on extrememly minimum wage.

kudos to you guys.

This is from my favorite video game of all time ever, ever. Some of the parts you see here are placeholders, such as the minifigure torso. The 6x6 tile does not come in this color, but I will commit treason and paint the darn thing and stick a decal/sticker on it. <3

From the Lego Movie Mini figures series.

This was my planned post for today and It is coincidence that it is also International Women's Day.

Sorry for the mass uploads, but this is my way to get the photos to my phone to do other things with them.

I posted this earlier today without thinking much about it, but I have now spotted that it was taken this time last year. It could have been taken this year as construction workers have worked throughout lockdown. The office worker wasn't there last year, appearing only as an advert, and is probably working safely from home this year (as I am). The other thing that strikes me now is how invisible the black construction worker appears against the black background, and compared to his Hi-Viz gear.
