Construction is well underway on our porch in New Orleans. After a tornado pulled the little stoop away from the house, Ken said obviously it was an opportunity to make a change. I guess any opportunity shouldn't be missed! I think the new porch is going to add TONS of New Orleans curb appeal! Just wait til we get finished!

I am SO thrilled we have been able to use the architectural blocks that I have saved for 7 or 8 years- I just KNEW there would be a project they were perfect for! Also, the stained glass window that went up into the vent area is an antique from England! Our contractor, Peter, knows how much the details matter and he is a great project manager to understand the aesthetics we are going for!

Please forgive me being so intermittent here, as we are back and forth a lot right now!

I've been messing about with my enlarger setup lately. I've been having BAD issues with uneven light distribution. It's (almost) fixed now. The lighter areas here were intentionally dodged, though (mostly ;)).

I've been wanting to print this negative for so long now and figured today would be the day. As for the paper, I've decided on ancient Tetenal Work 310 which a friend handed me along with many more boxes of paper when he moved. Most contents of the box were damaged (by humidity?) but some sheets were still mostly intact, like this one.

Due to the age and poor storage conditions, it has started to yellow significantly. I wanted to stain the paper originally but ended up liking the warm tone the paper already had so much that I didn't do any toning/staining. That along with some dodging/burning here and there creates a nice, gritty look that really fits the subject, I believe. I'm very pleased with the print! Take a 1:1 crop out of it and you've got yourself a nice EBM album cover. It's just such a shame most sheets in the box were damaged beyond use...

I just got back from a trip to Seattle, where (unlike every trip I've made to and through that city prior) my only goal was to take pictures. Seattle, it turns out, is a gold mine for desolate alleyways backdropped by towering skyscrapers, and the majority of my keeper shots ended up being shot from this vantage. Alleys provide a perspective to cities that skylines and architectural glamor shots struggle to replicate, and they're my favorite angle to enjoy the scenery through.

Steel framework for new buildings going up on the last part of the once huge Scottish and Newcastle brewery site that hasn't yet been redeveloped. Didn't have the tripod with me as was walking home from work, so improvised night shot, setting timer and sitting camera on handy flat-topped railing (you can see it leading away on the right) and that seemed to work well enough for a longer exposure to to its thing.

If I recall correctly this would be roughly where the old Tartan Club social venue for the brewery used to be, with industrial units adjacent. Here's a night pic I took from almost the same spot back in 2008, where the Tartan Club and other buildings had already been demolished, but some of the industrial structures and chimneys by the canal were still standing - www.flickr.com/photos/woolamaloo_gazette/2286607584/in/ph...

▶ "Flotsam is defined as debris in the water that was not deliberately thrown overboard, often as a result of a shipwreck or accident. Jetsam describes debris that was deliberately thrown overboard by a crew of a ship in distress, most often to lighten the ship's load. Under maritime law, flotsam may be claimed by the original owner, whereas jetsam may be claimed as property of whoever discovers it."

This is a scene I would not think to shoot if using a 50-mm lens. It's interesting how a lens would shape one's observation.

I thought of flowers, grass, nature for "Coming out of the ground".
