ABOUT BETTER BROTHERS LOS ANGELES

Better Brothers Los Angeles was created to provide spaces for Black gay men to network, socialize and be BETTER – at life, love and community. Developing a sense of community has been a challenge for some Black gay men, given the cultural and religious opposition to their sexual orientation. As those challenges have receded in mainstream society, they still present significant difficulties and constrain a sense of well-being for Black gay men within the Black community. Better Brothers Los Angeles has sponsored cultural, recreational, and social/networking events, and continues to create a community where Black gay men and women can walk with a greater sense of confidence and pride. ABOUT THE DIVA FOUNDATION

The DIVA Foundation -- founded in 1990 by Tony-nominated actress and HIV/AIDS advocate Sheryl Lee Ralph -- is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, created as a living memorial to the many friends she lost to HIV/AIDS as an original cast member of the Broadway musical “Dreamgirls,” and because of her concern for the threat HIV/AIDS posed to women and children. Over the years, the DIVA Foundation has worked to break the silence and erase the stigma still connected to HIV/AIDS and encourage people to get tested in order to know their HIV status.

Cassini has sighted Prometheus and Pandora, the two F-ring-shepherding

moons whose unpredictable orbits both fascinate scientists and wreak havoc

on the F ring.

Prometheus (102 kilometers, or 63 miles across) is visible left of

center in the image, inside the F ring. Pandora (84 kilometers, or 52

miles across) appears above center, outside the ring. The dark shadow

cast by the planet stretches more than halfway across the A ring, the

outermost main ring. The mottled pattern appearing in the dark regions

of the image is 'noise' in the signal recorded by the camera system,

which has subsequently been magnified by the image processing.

The F ring is a narrow, ribbon-like structure, with a width seen in

this geometry equivalent to a few kilometers. The two small, irregularly

shaped moons exert a gravitational influence on particles that make up

the F ring, confining it and possibly leading to the formation of clumps,

strands and other structures observed there. Pandora prevents the F ring

from spreading outward and Prometheus prevents it from spreading inward.

However, their interaction with the ring is complex and not fully

understood. The shepherds are also known to be responsible for many

of the observed structures in Saturn's A ring.

The moons, which were discovered in images returned by the Voyager 1

spacecraft in 1980, are in chaotic orbits--their orbits can change

unpredictably when the moons get very close to each other. This strange

behavior was first noticed in ground-based and Hubble Space Telescope

observations in 1995, when the rings were seen nearly edge-on from Earth

and the usual glare of the rings was reduced, making the satellites more

readily visible than usual. The positions of both satellites at that time

were different than expected based on Voyager data.

One of the goals for the Cassini-Huygens mission is to derive more

precise orbits for Prometheus and Pandora. Seeing how their orbits

change over the duration of the mission will help to determine their

masses, which in turn will help constrain models of their interiors and

provide a more complete understanding of their effect on the rings.

This narrow angle camera image was snapped through the broadband green

spectral filter, centered at 568 nanometers, on March 10, 2004, when the

spacecraft was 55.5 million kilometers (34.5 million miles) from the

planet. Image scale is approximately 333 kilometers (207 miles) per

pixel. Contrast has been greatly enhanced, and the image has been

magnified to aid visibility of the moons as well as structure in the

rings.

The Cassini-Huygens mission is a cooperative project of NASA, the

European Space Agency and the Italian Space Agency. The Jet Propulsion

Laboratory, a division of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena,

manages the Cassini-Huygens mission for NASA's Office of Space Science,

Washington, D.C. The Cassini orbiter and its two onboard cameras, were

designed, developed and assembled at JPL. The imaging team is based at

the Space Science Institute, Boulder, Colo.

the recipe for dad's vanilla kipferl - in his own words

7 oz Flour, 5oz butter (if available unsalted);1/2 oz caster sugar, 21/2 oz ground blanched almonds.

Vanilla sugar to roll the cooked biscuits in. I use caster sugar in which a vannila bean or 3 has been stored for at least a week in an airtight container. I have about a pound on hand as I top it up with sugar as used.

Knead all the ingredients together, after softening the butter so it is pliable. ( i am lazy and actually melt it).

Hand roll the whole mass into about a 4-5 cm piece. Slice of about 2 cm pieces and form these by hand into a long bit, which you then carefully form into a horseshoe shape. Place thes on an ungreased tin and bake at about 210C for about 10 -15 mins until they are pale Beige. Cool them slightly on the tray and then roll them carefully in the vanilla sugar. Constrain yourself and let them cool, before eating them.

As this recipe makes only about 15-17 bikies, I usually double the recipe.

/ It’s been said that the “out of the box” concept was first brought to table by Henry Ernest Dudeney, the British mathematician and a well-known creator of puzzles; he was asked to connect nine dots in a 3x3 formation by just four straight line, Dudeney’s secret was that the answer had to be out of the 3x3 constrain. The accomplishment of solving a puzzle lies within the fact that, rules must not be violated nor ignored; yet passing round after round of obstacles and finally masterfully solving it. Similarly, product design has its own sets of limitations and conditions, certain bravery for breaking the centuries-old rules are required in order to present brand new creative thoughts, further imaginations, inspirations, or even new interpretations may be motivated simply by taking different points of view or moving away from a normal position; however, what’s more interesting that solving puzzles is that design is different from mathematical calculations, everyone has their own methods of solving the problem, even more diverted and unsuspected answers arise. It doesn’t matter if we see such things as elements that are independent yet somehow related to one another, and keep on rearranging or eliminating some factors, or trying to remove the formless frame of our locked-up souls and breaking off the boundaries; or surprise ourselves upon revealing something, just like the way we feel when opening gacha; or like the surprises that lie within a drawing box; or just to empty the “box” to place new things in it, all the above-mentioned behaviors may, in one way or another, guide us to the thinking space outside the usual position, and within the process of placing in, moving out, placing in and moving out again, or in between the obvious/hidden, inner/outer spaces, we get ourselves a chance to take a look at the world we live in with more freedom and grandeur, and no longer fall into the self-blinding world of professionalism.

Ok, we’re rocking. I figured the constraint problem out. To help anyone who may need the same thing, here’s how.

To rotate the door and have the hand hold on you:

1)Create locator, name it, point snap to door group(I have door plus handle), then Shift select door group and parent(not parent constrain).

2)At the frame you want the hand to stick to the door select the locator, Shift select the hand control(or whatever you want to stick to the door then do a parent constraint with default settings.

Now you should see a Blend Parent 1 attribute added to you control. Key from 0 to 1 to bind hand to door then key back to 0 to release door.

Hope this is helpful.

Researchers used naturally occurring radioisotopes to quantify the footprint of sedimented marine oil snow on the Gulf of Mexico seafloor following the Deepwater Horizon incident. The team estimated that the total spatial extent of marine oil snow to be between 12,805 and 35,425 km2. Sediment dated after the spill indicated a significant increase in radioisotope flux (the amount of radioisotopes moving from the water column into the sediments) compared to sediment dated before the spill. Increased fluxes were primarily centered around the spill site, suggesting that these fluxes were the result of sinking marine oil snow and not natural variations. The researchers published their findings in Environmental Science & Technology: Constraining the spatial extent of marine oil snow sedimentation and flocculent accumulation following the Deepwater Horizon event using an excess 210Pb flux approach.

I was about to fly through the roof, but I had to constrain myself...

But when Jesus saw it, He was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.

And He took them up in His arms, put His hands upon them, and blessed them.

As we give thanks for infinite value of children, so let us pray for Fathers & Mothers and for all of us whom children receive their first thoughs of God.

May we have the love of loving parents and the wisdom of teachers, that our lives may be ruled by simplicity, gladness, and sympathy, and that we may guide by the constraining influence of love rather than by the restraint of fear.

By the direction and inspiration of Thy Loving Spirit we may direct the thoughts of our children through curiousity to wonder, through fairies to angels, through the imagination of the delights of playtime to the worship of the joys of the Eternal...

There were similar noises at both places. The same crackling sound that gives away the biggest secret of all time. Although major earthquake faults were not

found, Tarr and Martin “postulated” that the shoreline displacements were caused by

vertical movements on a system of concealed steep normal faults and that the fissure

zones on ridges were along subsidiary faults. My studies in the Yakutat Bay

region indicate that: (1) the emergent shorelines along Yakutat Bay define a broad

upwarp roughly 50 km by 30 km that is primarily related to a Nikola Tesla “reverse slip” on local

concealed shallowly-dipping thrust faults; (2) the reported subsidence was due largely, or

entirely, to Nikola Tesla’s tectonic shock; and (3) most,

if not all, of the zones of surface fractures related to the 1899 Weapon are "sackung"

that were caused by Nikola Tesla’s large-scale gravitational pumping of the planet itself cracking at steep slopes, rather

than natural faulting. A small number of early damped seismograms and the vertical uplift data

were used to constrain the fault slippage that occurred when Tesla conducted the weapon testing during the twenty six+ days of near constant palpitation of the earth’s surface due to great Weapon

in 1899. Seismic moments determined from 50-sec. surface wave amplitudes are ~ 2 x

1021 N-m for the two main events, equivalent to Mw 8.1. Uplift determined from Tesla raised

shorelines within Yakutat Bay can be accounted for by the 10 September Tesla event alone, and

these data can be fit by ~10–20 m dip slippage on three dextral oblique thrust faults that

dip ~30° northeast or north. Faulting complexity is also shown by the S-wave

seismogram of the 10 September shock, which lasted ~3 minutes and shows at least three

distinct long-period pulses. The large seismic moment of the 04 September event and

uplift of ~3.3 ft. at Yakataga suggest a 150 km westward extension of faulting along the

foothills fold and thrust zone. Our reassessment suggests that, although some portions of

the complex plate boundary zone ruptured in 1899, regional seismic hazard is currently

significant.

Took another trip down to chi-town with some friends to wander around and take photos. I wanted to constrain myself for the day so just used my 50 f/1.8 lens. It was nice because it makes you think about the composition a little more and the DoF is very nice. But i did pop on the 70-200 f/2.8 while we sat at the bean. It's always fun to try new styles and to people watch :)

Methow Geology-Short - 8-2014-Methow Geology.pdf

There was one more large depositional event in the Methow at what is now Pipestone Canyon about 60 mya, where 2000

feet of boulders, cobbles, sand and silt were deposited in a water environment, but apparently not in an ocean, as the in-

terbedded sandstones contain only land plant fossils. Eight terrestrial plant fossils that would have grown in a semi-tropi-

cal environment have been found in Pipestone sediments, including Metasequoia, the ‘dawn redwood.’ Because the

Methow was largely sealed off from the Pacific Ocean and deliveries by the Pacific Plate, it is likely that Pipestone was

deposited on site, in the location it currently occupies.

Pipestone Canyon Formation

Pipestone Canyon Formation was the name applied by Barksdale (1975) to a section

of granitic-, chert-, and volcanic-clast conglomerate, arkosic sandstone, and thin

interbeds of siltstone and shale in Pipestone Canyon, approximately 8 km northeast of

Twisp. Barksdale ( 197 5) reported that the largest conglomerate clasts are of granitoid

and gneissic composition and range up to 5 ft. in diameter. The clast size diminishes

upward, and fine-grained, fossiliferous elastic rocks predominate high in the section.

Stratigraphy and Sedimentology of the Pipestone Canyon Formation, North Central Washington - Stratigraphy and Sedimentology of the Pipestone Canyon Formation.pdf

Abstract

Since Mesozoic time, the western margin of North America has grown through the addition of tectonic terranes, transported atop the subducting paleo-Pacific oceanic plate. The “Baja British Columbia” terrane model postulates accretion of the Insular superterrane at the latitude of southern Mexico and subsequent, margin-parallel translation north to juxtaposition with the western portion of the Intermontane superterrane. After amalgamation, the composite block continued north to its current location. The timing of the proposed translation has not bear well constrained. In the study area, the Okanogan Range batholith of the Intermontane superterrane’s Quesnellia terrane is juxtaposed with the sedimentary and volcanic deposits of the Insular superterrane’s Methow terrane across the Pasayten fault, the superterrane boundary. Deposited upon basement rocks of both superterranes are the Late Cretaceous non-marine conglomerate, sandstone and subordinate volcaniclastics of the Pipestone Canyon Formation. Based on geochemical comparisons between samples from the batholith and plutonic clasts from the formation, a significant proportion of the plutonic debris within Pipestone Canyon Formation strata is inferred to have been derived from the Okanogan Range batholith. The age of the formation, determined by palynology and a zircon fission-track date, is latest Campanian to early Maastrichtian. Therefore, the Pipestone Canyon Formation links the superterranes by 70 Ma and constrains the timing of any northward translation of the Insular superterrane and subsequent, post-amalgamation, northward movement o

In 1962 David Bailey convinced Vogue to send him and Jean Shrimpton to New York. Armed with his 35mm camera and no lighting they took to the streets and shot fashion wherever they wanted free from the constrains of a studio where most fashion shoots were held. I love the atmosphere of the shots and the fact that passers by are sometimes included. Some of the shots have been scanned into this Flickr Set (not by me)...

Today I met up with a Polish model called Malwina and we were inspired to create some similar shots in the streets of Croydon.

Session 1: Engaging the Private Sector

Understanding how companies and markets can create more economic opportunities, and the barriers that constrain the creation of additional jobs and self-employment opportunities is essential to addressing the current challenges of youth underemployment and unemployment.

This session discussed how three private sector organizations are putting youth at the centre of agricultural transformation.

Douglas St., Victoria, BC.

Douglas is one of the main north - south routes connecting downtown Victoria with neighbouring Saanich, the city's largest suburban municipality; also to the Trans Canada Highway that connects commuters to west shore, big box suburbs, and destinations up Vancouver Island.

Construction at the "Hudson", a converted department store in Victoria's downtown, crowded the bike lane along Douglas St. "Allowed use of full lane" signs in construction/temporary colours alerts both cyclists and drivers to the change in conditions along this short stretch of the corridor and provides some comfort to the many cyclists using the bike lanes along the street.

The "allowed use of full lane" sign is a recent addition to bicycle signage in Victoria where narrow travel lanes constrain engineers from adding space for cyclists or where construction projects require temporary facilities for cyclists.

I am reasonably content with how my animation turned out, after rendering it 3 times I am finally satisfied with the lighting and the animation. When designing the character I went for something simple and that wouldn't take me too much time to make. It started as a polygon cube and from there I extruded it. The most challenging part of the process would have to be the face as getting the snout and eyes looking realistic.

The ears where a last minute add to the model, I decided that they would make portraying emotion a lot easier, sort of like those of any dog or cat.

The rig and skinning process didn't have many difficulties, all it need is patience as the paint constrain tool can be tricky.

Animation went smoothly, the IK on the legs made the only part that could have been a problem easy to do, the rest was simple but attention to the small details, like the ears and tail, are what I feel make the animation successful and more characterized and less mechanical.

The textures are simple, just Lambert and a bump map for the present but the eyes do have some UV mapping for the pupils.

The scene itself is only a plain and a sphere as a sky dome and all with white Lambert.

The lighting was a bit tricky to get right, but I eventually got it down to one spotlight and one ambient light. The fire is just a fire particle effect attached to the present that only starts at a certain frame, it has a small glitch that only comes up when rendering.

All in all I feel I put in sufficient work for this to be a successful character animation of a dragon who is happy to get a present but is saddened when he sneezes and accidentally burns his present.

It's always fun to try new styles and to people watch :)

apu. he was quite a caricature to watch lol

Edited Hubble Space Telescope image of the galaxy NGC 4526. Inverted grayscale variant.

Original caption: This neat little galaxy is known as NGC 4526. Its dark lanes of dust and bright diffuse glow make the galaxy appear to hang like a halo in the emptiness of space in this new image from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope. Although this image paints a picture of serenity, the galaxy is anything but. It is one of the brightest lenticular galaxies known, a category that lies somewhere between spirals and ellipticals. It has hosted two known supernova explosions, one in 1969 and another in 1994, and is known to have a colossal supermassive black hole at its centre that has the mass of 450 million Suns. NGC 4526 is part of the Virgo cluster of galaxies. Ground-based observations of galaxies in this cluster have revealed that a quarter of these galaxies seem to have rapidly rotating discs of gas at their centres. The most spectacular of these is this galaxy, NGC 4526, whose spinning disc of gas, dust, and stars reaches out uniquely far from its heart, spanning some 7% of the galaxy's entire radius. This disc is moving incredibly fast, spinning at more than 250 kilometres per second. The dynamics of this quickly whirling region were actually used to infer the mass of NGC 4526’s central black hole — a technique that had not been used before to constrain a galaxy’s central black hole. This image was taken using Hubble’s Wide Field Planetary Camera 2. A version of this image was entered into the Hubble’s Hidden Treasures image processing competition by contestant Judy Schmidt. Hidden Treasures was an initiative to invite astronomy enthusiasts to search the Hubble archive for stunning images that have never been seen by the general public.

Pembroke the County Town of Pembrokeshire, in South Wales.

Pembroke Castle, the substantial remains of a stone medieval fortress founded by the Normans in 1093, stands at the Western tip of the peninsular surrounded by water on three sides. The castle was the seat of the powerful Earls of Pembroke and the birthplace of King Henry VII of England.

Gerald de Windsor was the first recorded Constable of Pembroke. Pembroke town and castle and its surroundings are linked with the early Christian church. Following the final extension of the Castle about 1254 the town was extended, and defensive perimeter walls erected around the edge of the town. The walls survive on their medieval foundations, although much rebuilt over the centuries. A great many of the town's original medieval burgage plots survive and are divided by early stone walls that are of significant national importance.

Monkton Priory, sited on a hill across the river from the castle, founded in 1098 by Arnulf de Montgomery and granted by him to the Benedictine order, has very early foundations and retains much of the Norman walls of the nave. The choir and sanctuary were renovated in the 19th Century. Monkton Hall, close by the Priory church, is regarded as the oldest domestic building in Pembrokeshire and possibly Wales and is thought to have been the guesthouse for visitors to the Priory.

The first stone building in the town was a defensive tower, now known as the Medieval Chapel, at 69a Main Street, built on a cliff edge between 950 AD and 1000 AD. There are the remains of a great hall to the north and recently filled-in arched cellars. The building was thought to have been later used as an early church as the layout is the same as St. Govan's Chapel and was used by John Wesley in 1764 to preach Methodism. In 1866 it became the brewery for the York Tavern which was briefly Oliver Cromwell's headquarters at the end of the Siege of Pembroke during the English Civil War.

The town's main bridge across the River Pembroke, which also acts as a dam, crosses and constrains the millpond. The first bridge was constructed to house a tide mill, originally granted to the Knights Templar in 1199. The last mill building was destroyed by fire in 1956.

On both banks of the Pembroke River to the west of the castle are many remains of early activities. The North Shore Quarries are relatively complete as are the remains of medieval and Elizabethan slipways where wooden vessels were built before the industrial dockyard and admiralty town was built on the grid pattern of Pembroke Dock. There is a very early complete graving dock in what was Hancock's Yard.

At Pennar Flats there was an early submarine base used for experiments in submarine warfare. Three of the houses on the then foreshore, part of the shipyard before the Admiralty Dock Yard was built, are still standing but are heavily altered.
