In the morning of the next day, the heroes are informed of the murder and theft happening the night before.
Prior to showing up at the place, Kerrick opens himself up to Thana. In secret, away from the others, he admits to the crime, but claims his actions were controlled by Pazuzu (a kind of partial truth).
"Pazuzu cannot watch me here in your abode, only entities you allow in can go here. Please do not speak of this outside. Do not alert Pazuzu."
Thana accepts.
Then Shiel and his friends visit the place of the crime. They ask around what happened (guards were killed, a magical item was stolen), and inquire if they can be of any help. The investigation is led by Helm, assisted by Tyr, but help is very welcome.
Most of the people here have not seen Kerrick together with the group, so Thana decided it would be best if he stayed behind. Especially since the object stolen was a mask in the form of a beak.
Nimue remarks: "As you said, this was a very violent intrusion. This man, however, has died of fear." With the revelation of the artifact, Nimue is pretty sure Kerrick is responsible, too.

A DOSE OF CARBOLIC ACID.
SERIOUS ACCIDENT TO MR McDERMOTT,
A mistake fraught with serious consequences was made last evening by Mr Martin McDermott, the well-known plumber, who drank a dose of carbolic acid in mistake for his usual medicine. It seems Mr McDermott has been in low health of late, and by his doctor's orders was taking a daily dose of medicine. The bottle was kept on a shelf in his shop in Queen-street. Last evening, as he was leaving the shop, Mr McDermott went to the shelf for his medicine, took down what he thought was the bottle, and being in a hurry to catch his tram at once poured, out the usual dose—two tablespoonfuls—and gulped it down. Not till he had drunk the liquid did he realise that he had made a terrible mistake and taken carbolic acid, a strong poison. It appears that a bottle of the acid, in shape and size very like the medicine bottle, is kept for disinfecting purposes. It had been placed that afternoon on the same shelf as the medicine, and Mr McDermott, not knowing this, in his hurry had taken the wrong bottle. He at once called out to his son, James, who procured assistance, and then ran across to Mr Aickin's pharmacy for an emetic. Drs. Parkes and Dawson were summoned and attended to the patient, who was subsequently removed to his home in College Road. The services of his regular doctor, Dr. Bedford, were also requisitioned, and the three medical men held a consultation to-day. The poison taken is a very strong one, and the patient lies in a dangerous condition.
Upon inquiry this afternoon we learn that Mr McDermott is doing as well as can be expected under the circumstances, though there is no change for the better.

DEATH OF MR MARTIN McDERMOTT.
It is with regret we announce the death of Mr. Martin McDermott, Plumber, a well-known old Auckland identity. On Wednesday last, it will be remembered, he took some, carbolic acid in his shop by mistake for his medicine. The poor fellow was afterwards in great agony, and the medical men called in—Drs. Bedford, Parkes and Dawson—held out little hope from the first. Mr McDermott passed away at half-past eight o'clock last night at his residence, College Road. His eldest son, Mr Martin McDennott, who is accountant at Mr Thos Wells' establishment, Cambridge, arrived from Waikato about ten minutes before his father died. Mr MeDermott was a very old colonist, having been born at the Bay of Islands in 1841. Deceased was first apprenticed to the printing trade at the old 'New Zealander' newspaper office, Shortlandstreet, and subsequently went into the plumbing business. At the outbreak of the Gabriel Gully gold rush he proceeded to Otago, where he remained for some time. On the opening of the Thames goldfields he returned to Auckland and commenced business for himself. Deceased leaves a widow and five sons and four daughters to mourn their loss. Mr McDermott was for many years connected with the Church of Christ, Ponsonby. He was also a member of the Ponsonby Bowling Club and a representative bowler. Deceased was very charitable, but unostentatious in his gifts. The funeral will leave his late residence to-morrow afternoon at two o'clock for Waikumete cemetery

The funeral of the late Mr Martin McDermott. who died last week from accidental poisoning, took place yesterday, and was very largely attended. The funeral cortege left Ponsonby for the Waikumete Cemetery, where the interment took place. The burial service was conducted by Mr Bull, of the Church of Christ, Ponsonby Road. A large number of telegrams of condolence were received from various parts of New Zealand and Australia.

Mrs. P. McDermott, an Auckland resident of 40 years standing, passed away at her residence, College-road, Ponsonby, at the age of 63 years Mrs. McDermott, who survived her late husband three years, has resided at Auckland ever since coming to New Zealand in the sixties. She leaves several grown-up sons and daughters, and a number of grandchildren. The funeral takes place at Waikumete on Sunday next.

Another of Auckland's old residents passed away at her residence, College Road, Ponsonby, last evening, in the person of Mrs. McDermott, widow of the late Mr. M. P. McDermott, at the age of 62 years. The deceased lady, who was a native of Ireland, came to the colony 40 years ago and passed most of that long period in Auckland. Mr. McDermott died some three years ago, and since that time Mrs. McDermott has been in failing health. She leaves a family of grown-up sons and daughters, and a number of grandchildren, to mourn their loss. The interment takes place at Waikumete on Sunday next.

A book made using photocopies of sketchbook pages throughout a brief called 'Consequences' in which we were to represent a narrative visually. I placed viewfinders on various pieces, cropped them and blew them up on a photocopier, to abstract my work and focus on specific areas.
On May 5, I put the First Solar Bus in the World in our local parade, stood in the door and shouted to all of the people lining the parade route that the sun is free fuel and Solar Buzz is a solution to global warming because it has no tailpipe.
