grandeur can sometimes blind us to the point that we fail to see the little things which are just as beautiful. by the same token, sometimes we get too busy attending to "grander" things in life, the ones we consider "matters of consequence" that we forget the simple yet sometimes more important things. have you smelled a flower today? have you looked at the stars? have you smiled at a stranger? have you said "i love you" to the significant people in your life? have you held their hands? have you called or written a friend just to say hello? life is fleeting. and it would be so tragic to realize it's too late to do any of these simple things because we have been too busy with "matters of consequence" .
While the tumultous consequences of covid19 rages all around us here in London those of us who can do so stay at home and out of harm's way. But I try to get out for a ride on my bicycle most days. The government asks that we restrict our exercise time away from home to one hour and I hold my hand up and say that I'm sometimes out for longer. But I stick to roads and lanes that are very quiet and for the most part devoid of people. I reckon I'm safe and I'm not posing a risk to others so I hope the police won't arrest me.
The best part of that scenario is that I'm learning the geography of my area so much better than I knew it before. And so it was that I found myself in an area I'd not been before and came across this little lane in Nork Park, near Banstead in Surrey, bracketed by these lovely blossoming trees. It is a truly lovely spot. I shot a few images through the blossoms and slightly overexposed them to get the unnaturally bright light coming through.

Markyate's High Street follows the bed of the River Ver, so is sloping, approximately from north to south. This is the northern and higher end of High Street. The building reflects this situation too in that one end is higher above the ground than the other. There are consequences if, as here, you put the entrance to your home at the higher end.

No I have not bought a drone camera ,to take this shot I climbed to the top of the very steep twelfth century bell tower of St Marys church in Rye to take a shot of the town
Rye is a small town in East Sussex It is two miles from the sea at the confluence of three rivers: the Rother, the Tillingham and the Brede. In medieval times, as an important member of the Cinque Ports confederation, it was almost entirely surrounded by the sea. It has one of the best preserved medieval street systems in England and as a consequence receives many visitors
It also has strong literary links if you look at the image and follow the line of the roof apex below you will see a small street at the end of the street is Lamb House. Henry James the great American novelist lived in the house from 1897 to 1914. He sold it to E.F. Benson the English novelist whose series of books “Mapp and Lucia” are largely based in Rye which Benson called Tilling . If you have not read anything by E.F. Benson he is worth a look. Written in the late nineteen twenties and early thirties the six novels in the Mapp and Lucia series are delightfully written comic novels that capture so well English snobbery and pretension . In particular the constant battle for supremacy between Miss Mapp and Lucia Lucus. They were filmed in Rye in 1985 on Channel 4, its a box set I regularly return too

Truth or Consequences is this very small New Mexico town that is famous for being featured on a radio show in 1950. It's a town with hot springs, a great brewery (also known as Truth or Consequences Brewery), and a slower pace. Unfortunately, it is not known for it's vegan food, of which there really isn't any. I mean, have you ever heard of putting sour cream in guacamole? Is this some torture scenario for avocados I haven't heard of yet?
Anyway, I went to Truth or Consequences the night before Brandon Johnson was elected as mayor of Chicago. For those of you who don't know about local politics, Brandon Jonson is a progressive and he was running against Paul Vallas, who is a nihilist. This made it a pretty easy choice for people who care about humanity. Anyway, I floated in that Truth or Consequence hot spring and I meditated for the health of the world and my city to make the right choice. I had so much anxiety and fear that my city would succumb to the darker forces of nature, like a political black hole pulling us all down so our noses scraped the ground. But, the next day, humanity was saved a little bit.
Truth or Consequence would also be a really weird alternate version of Truth or Dare...like easy one there, I choose Truth over having a Consequence or could truth be a consequence? There's a wormhole of logic here but I've already rambled enough. Here's a photo of a small town not a lot of people know about. Please don't try to be an influencer by traveling there just to Instagram it. It's charming and I'd like it to stay that way, even if they need to learn how to make guacamole without the dairy....
Here's more information about this town and this includes actual facts that don't sound like stream of conscious gobbly gook by someone listening to Youth Lagoon, drinking morning coffee, and wondering when the sun is going to fully come out today.

Those days whole province of Quebec is covered by layer of smoke. Forest fires rages for a month now. This brings heaviness to the heart.
It feels like sunset all day
The Swedish artist Henrik Håkansson (*1968 in Helsingborg, S; lives in Berlin and Falkenberg, S) became internationally famous with his installations. They deal with the consequence of the human influence on the environment. He combines cinematic and sculptural elements and acquires the role of the interloper and the destroyer, as well as the creator and carer of the growth of nature.
In the centre of the exhibition A tree (suspended) will stay a beech, which was already discharged by the forester. By request of the artist the beech was removed with the rooting.

Preah Vihear city is the capital of Preah Vihear Province. The province was created and named as a result of the border dispute over the ownership of Prasat Preah Vihear in 1962.
Preah Vihear city used to be called Tbeng Meanchey. It was renamed to Preah Vihear as a consequence of creating Preah Vihear province. The city is located 115 km south of the temple.
There is a large scale Angkorian site called Preah Khan Kampong Svay in the same province 85 km south of Preah Vihear city. It is on the tentative list of World Heritage. I did not visit the site but I think it is worth noting.
This photo was taken near the roundabout located at the southern end of the city's main street. I did not see any tourist in the town.
In spite of important archaeological sites, tourism services are not proportionately developed in the province.

In our attempt to stay more and more connected as a society, (and even as families) on some level, we have become even more disconnected from those closest to us. We have radically redefined what it means to be connected to each other.

Some arrive slowly.
Others walk in wearing silk and a smile."

Chapter 17: “Gentle Hands, Ruthless Intent”
He offered them comfort once. A choice. A way out.
But choices come with consequences. And they chose to run.
Now, the room is cold, the light too sharp, and his voice—
soft as silk, sharp as a knife.
"You ran. I followed. Let’s see what that earned you."
They´re no longer facing the man they once trusted.
They´re facing the one the world fears.
And tonight, he doesn’t need to raise his voice to make them beg.
