Markyate's High Street follows the bed of the River Ver, so is sloping, approximately from north to south. This is the northern and higher end of High Street. The building reflects this situation too in that one end is higher above the ground than the other. There are consequences if, as here, you put the entrance to your home at the higher end.
While the tumultous consequences of covid19 rages all around us here in London those of us who can do so stay at home and out of harm's way. But I try to get out for a ride on my bicycle most days. The government asks that we restrict our exercise time away from home to one hour and I hold my hand up and say that I'm sometimes out for longer. But I stick to roads and lanes that are very quiet and for the most part devoid of people. I reckon I'm safe and I'm not posing a risk to others so I hope the police won't arrest me.
The best part of that scenario is that I'm learning the geography of my area so much better than I knew it before. And so it was that I found myself in an area I'd not been before and came across this little lane in Nork Park, near Banstead in Surrey, bracketed by these lovely blossoming trees. It is a truly lovely spot. I shot a few images through the blossoms and slightly overexposed them to get the unnaturally bright light coming through.

In 1973 a United States Navy DC -3 plane ran out of fuel and crashed on the black beach at Sólheimasandur, in the South coast of Iceland. Fortunately, everyone in that plane survived. Later it turned out that the pilot had simply switched over to the wrong fuel tank. The remains are still on the sand very close to the sea.

Bøyabreen is a glacier in the Fjærland area in Sogndal Municipality in Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway. It is located inside Jostedalsbreen National Park, and it is a side branch of the large Jostedalsbreen glacier.
The glacier retreated very much over the years. It used to fill the valley, Retreating glaciers is one consequence of global warming.
No I have not bought a drone camera ,to take this shot I climbed to the top of the very steep twelfth century bell tower of St Marys church in Rye to take a shot of the town
Rye is a small town in East Sussex It is two miles from the sea at the confluence of three rivers: the Rother, the Tillingham and the Brede. In medieval times, as an important member of the Cinque Ports confederation, it was almost entirely surrounded by the sea. It has one of the best preserved medieval street systems in England and as a consequence receives many visitors
It also has strong literary links if you look at the image and follow the line of the roof apex below you will see a small street at the end of the street is Lamb House. Henry James the great American novelist lived in the house from 1897 to 1914. He sold it to E.F. Benson the English novelist whose series of books “Mapp and Lucia” are largely based in Rye which Benson called Tilling . If you have not read anything by E.F. Benson he is worth a look. Written in the late nineteen twenties and early thirties the six novels in the Mapp and Lucia series are delightfully written comic novels that capture so well English snobbery and pretension . In particular the constant battle for supremacy between Miss Mapp and Lucia Lucus. They were filmed in Rye in 1985 on Channel 4, its a box set I regularly return too
THANKS FOR YOUR VISIT TO MY STREAM.
I WOULD BE VERY GRATEFUL IF YOU COULD NOT FAVE A PHOTO
WITHOUT ALSO LEAVING A COMMENT .
Thank you to the numerous people who have visited my exhibition "Blind".
Blind is my new exhibition, opening on Wednesday June 22. It explores our denial of the studied, validated, stated, detailed crisis of climate change for which we are collectively responsible: natural, economic, social and demographic disasters.
And yet we do nothing, but continue our frenzy of senseless consumption and expend our energy in war.
Blind is the first part of a three-part installation, “The fifth season”, that questions our tendency to follow a path of self-destruction. It is related to the imminent threat of dramatic consequences for all living species as a result of climate change. It tries to dig deeper into the roots of our denial.

It is extremely sad to witness puffins resorting to using fishing line to construct their nests. This highlights the impact of human activity on the natural world and the dangerous consequences of littering. The use of fishing line puts the birds' lives at risk and has serious consequences for the puffin and its offspring, including entanglement, injury, and death. It is crucial that we all take responsibility for preserving the environment and its inhabitants by disposing of waste properly and reducing our reliance on harmful materials.
there's no simple
explanation
for anything important
any of us do
and, yeah, the human
consists in
the necessity
of living with
the consequences
under pressure
under pressure
This is a scenario we encountered about thrice during our travel through and along Iceland. I find it ever so sense-making to block a dangerous road and warn people about the consequences if they ignore the warning. In our countries there are way too many irresponsible people out there doing stupid stuff expecting society to come to their rescue when the f***ed up deliberately.
The universe is asymmetric and I am persuaded that life, as it is known to us, is a direct result of the asymmetry of the universe or of its indirect consequence.
Louis Pasteur.
Louis Pasteur (December 27, 1822 – September 28, 1895) was a French biologist, microbiologist and chemist renowned for his discoveries of the principles of vaccination, microbial fermentation and pasteurization. He is remembered for his remarkable breakthroughs in the causes and prevention of diseases, and his discoveries have saved many lives ever since. He reduced mortality from puerperal fever, and created the first vaccines for rabies and anthrax. His medical discoveries provided direct support for the germ theory of disease and its application in clinical medicine. He is best known to the general public for his invention of the technique of treating milk and wine to stop bacterial contamination, a process now called pasteurization. He is regarded as one of the three main founders of bacteriology, together with Ferdinand Cohn and Robert Koch, and is popularly known as the "father of microbiology" Source Wikipedia.

The town is made up of three ancient granite islets forming part of the furrow of Brittany, in its crossing of the Loire, located the furthest upstream from the Loire estuary. After the development of the Loire in the 18th and 19th centuries and the creation of dikes allowing the Loire to be narrowed (from 2 km at Paimboeuf to 200 m at Roche-Maurice) which resulted in the filling of the northern arms and south by sediment deposits, and the raising of the water level by almost 6 m to accommodate heavy-tonnage vessels. Basse-Indre and Haute-Indre gradually anchored themselves on the north bank, while Indret remained on the south bank. Roads in raised causeways as well as various fillings have partly eliminated the insular aspect of this atypical commune which lived in the middle of the river and its resources, fishing and naval industries. The altitude of Indre varies between 0 and 26 m.

This snap was taken a few days ago when the Red Arrows were performing over the Solent, just before the start of an America’s Cup World Series practice day.
I had cycled the last few miles down to the coast in an effort to beat the traffic and was therefore a bit restricted in carrying capacity and weight. Unfortunately, before departing, when I grabbed my camera I didn’t think to change my usual wide angle lens for something a little more appropriate for a distant air display! As a consequence, this snap has been cropped down by a huge amount.
Well that’s my excuse anyway!
