I've recently discovered these little to tiny bee flies working small flowers this time of year. These flies range in size from 2 to 4 mm in body length.
This was a continuing experiment with macro-panoramas. I'm using a combination of a LOMO 3.7x objective with a Raynox DCR-150 as a tube lens and a APS-C cropped sensor. This configuration gives a magnification a little more than 6x. I need to do panoramas for all but the tiniest subjects at this magnification. I believe it's worth the effort. I did a simple four panel pano emphasizing the wings, thorax, and head. I also used a ring light. It produces a flat effect I will need to work on.
Eyes are "holoptic" indicating a male. The eye facets also became larger towards the top, another common sexual dimorphic characteristic of male flies.

Main story

daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。

The Northrop M2-F3 was a heavyweight lifting body rebuilt from the Northrop M2-F2 after it crashed at the Dryden Flight Research Center in 1967. The "M" refers to "manned" and "F" refers to "flight" version.
Early flight testing of the M2-F1 and M2-F2 lifting body re-entry configurations had validated the concept of piloted lifting body re-entry from space. When the M2-F2 crashed on 10 May 1967, valuable information had already been obtained and was contributing to new designs.
NASA pilots said the M2-F2 had lateral control problems, so when it was rebuilt at Northrop and redesignated the M2-F3, it was modified with an additional third vertical fin - centred between the tip fins - to improve control characteristics.
After a three-year-long redesign and rebuilding effort, the 2.3-tonne (empty) M2-F3 was ready to fly. The May 1967 crash had torn off the left fin and landing gear. It had also damaged the external skin and internal structure. Flight Research Center engineers worked with Ames Research Center and the Air Force in redesigning the vehicle with a centre fin to provide greater stability. At first, it seemed that the vehicle had been irreparably damaged, but the original manufacturer, Northrop, did the repair work and returned the redesigned M2-F3 with a centre fin for stability to the FRC.
While the M2-F3 was still demanding to fly, the centre fin eliminated the high risk of pilot induced oscillation (PIO) that had been characteristic of the M2-F2.
First flight of the M2-F3, with NASA pilot Bill Dana at the controls, was 2 June 1970. The modified vehicle exhibited much better lateral stability and control characteristics than before, and only three glide flights were necessary before the first powered flight on 25 November 1970. The 100th flight of the heavyweight lifting bodies was completed on 5 October 1972, with pilot Bill Dana soaring to an altitude of 20,200m and a Mach number of 1.370 in the M2-F3. Over its 27 missions, the M2-F3 reached a top speed of 1,064 mph (Mach 1.6). Highest altitude reached by the vehicle was 20,790m on 20 December 1972, the date of its last flight, with NASA pilot John Manke at the controls.
A reaction control thruster (RCT) system, similar to that on orbiting spacecraft, was also installed to obtain research data about their effectiveness for vehicle control. As the M2-F3's portion of the lifting body programme neared an end, it evaluated a rate command augmentation control system, and a side-arm control stick similar to side-arm controllers now used on many modern aircraft.
NASA donated the M2-F3 vehicle to the Smithsonian Institution in December 1973. It is seen above hanging in the foyer of the National Air and Space Museum on the Mall in Washington DC. - details from Wikipedia.

A friend of mine recently asked me to take some pictures of his beautiful Aston Martin DB6 convertible, and this was really dry run to see if I could PS a picture and make it into something special for him. His car is also silver so this was a good test of how much I could push the tone and filter settings to deepen the look of the paint without losing the highlights.

Imbrium Lunokhod Industries Model VS-M/S-71 'Degei' - The next evolution of the Imbrium Lunokhod Industries Frame System, the Degei takes the lessons learned during the development of the VS-A-GR5K 'Krivlyaka' and applies the well loved stylings that made the VS-MX-04 'Rangi' and the VS-M/A-Z9A 'Muku' such a success. The Degei is a versatile assault frame perfect for space-based interdiction and other zero-g tactical operations.
From a design perspective, the frame fits perfectly into the 7P scale and aligns with the desired aesthetic. Unfortunately, the thigh joints that worked so well on the Krivlyaka were very fragile when paired with a stiff ankle joint. Additionally, the design of the shoulder joint didn’t add enough range of motion to justify the parts usage. Finally, the hip/waist connection was too loose, even with a friction pin which made it difficult to find stable footing.
If I was going to revise this build, I think I would start with the ankles. A looser and more scale-conventional joint (using a pneuma-T or tap) would probably work better in the long run.

The unfortunate configuration of 113's power has put heritage unit 7018 behind a run-of-the-mill AC4400 rebuild. However, 113's nature as a consistently mid-morning train through this area makes it a noteworthy catch this late into the afternoon, and it helps that the fall colours were approaching their peak.
The unique appearance/configuration of the ½ Command Module on the right has been ingrained in my memory for…as long as I can remember…since 1965 I suppose. I’ve always considered it to be kind of abstract. And, despite its distinctive & memorable (to oddballs such as myself) appearance, I’ve never found a satisfactory description associated with it.
The first two of the following links depict the prevalently reproduced image (P-286) I grew up seeing. And, based upon discernible ‘patterns’ in it & the one in my photo, I’m pretty sure they’re one-in-the-same. The associated description therein is as follows:
“Oven-freezer tests CM structural strength by roasting one side at 600° while dousing other side with liquid nitrogen at 320° below zero.”
Additionally, based upon the photo’s placement within the overall text, I also assume that these photos were taken in North American Aviation’s “Structural Test Facility”. However, the subsequent/associated descriptive text pertaining to the facility doesn’t seem to be represented in my photo. Not that that means anything:

The same image was featured on the cover of North American Aviation Inc.’s “SKYLINE” magazine, Volume 23, Number 2, 1965. Its associated description:
“Combination oven-refrigerator is used in Apollo module environmental tests at Downey, California.”
Further, within the lengthy article “APOLLO: THE YEAR TO GET READY”, under a section titled “Avco’s Amazing Shield” is the following:
“The tasks confronted by the Avco/RAD engineers for ground testing the ablative heat shield are monumental. It is impossible, at this time, to duplicate simultaneously the heat, the pressure, and gas envelope conditions that will be encountered in the 2000-second re-entry.
Avco’s test approach has been to bury thermocouples in two-foot specimens of ablative material, then bring the temperature up to 5000°F level with radiant lamps. As the test proceeds, the engineers get a series of reading from the buried thermocouples, and they know the recession rate of the charring material on the surface. The data from this is compared with an analytical model devised on a computer. From this comes assurance.
Avco’s task is to block the 5000°F exterior heat that tries to pass through the hottest part of the heat shield and tame it down within a few inches to an acceptable 600°F at the thin-skinned face of the inner-crew compartment. At that surface the North American Space engineers pick up the challenges in distortion of metal. They may have, simultaneously, heat on one side, frigid cold on the outer.
To prove the strength of the material the engineers have devised a new test tool, a combined furnace and refrigerator that sears the base of the module with radiant heat at 600°F while cascading liquid nitrogen down the far side of the capsule at temperatures of -320°F.
So…I’ve italicized the common & applicable verbiage that’s also contained within the previous articles.
Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t see how the above correlates with what I’m seeing in my photo. Obviously, the capsule on the right has a bunch of heating elements that are “on”. However, they’re mounted on the interior. I would’ve expected them to be on the exterior, no??? And, both the base & wall of the capsule appear to be being heated…simultaneously. To replicate reentry conditions? Does the plumbing(?) visible to the immediate right/slightly behind the capsule introduce the liquid nitrogen??? Or is it just part of the support structure???
Also, on a separate note and neither here nor there, I originally thought the capsule on the left was possibly dedicated to the cold testing. However, upon closer inspection, it appears to have the same physical components, i.e. heating elements, that are merely “off”. Maybe it’s the backup unit?
So - to me - the ‘mechanics’ of what’s going on here – even now – continues to be as clear as mud.
