I'm guessing this place must get really scorching during summer! Just look at all those air conditioning units.
There is a wonderful sense of history as you walk around this temple. Most of the buildings here are in good condition except for some within the rear area near the reclining Buddha. The Thai massage school here is one of the most important and is famous for teaching the art of this special massage. Thai massage can be very hard on the body depending on the severity that you want, to give you the required cure. I went to one many years ago because of my back pain, but once was enough for me. Personally I felt worse after it than before it. Walking around this temple you will see many beautiful Chedis, Chapels, Uposatha, and Buddha images. The only thing that spoils it here are the many crowds walking with you or against you.
The Single - based Chedi , four groups of five pagodas are found in front of the gallery. The group consists of a big pagoda in the middle surrounded by four small pagodas on a single base. Each is in a simple square shape with indented structures of twelve notched rim and added notched rim corners decorated with mosaic flowers. Each pagoda contains the Holy Relics of Buddha, and was constructed during the reign of King Rama I.
Along the main chapel yard both inside and outside ( separated by the monastery wall ) stand many rectangular Sala Rai or satellite pavilions. In the beginning there was no veranda it was just an open hall. The present type of building was later reconstructed in the reign of King Rama III by extending a veranda around with two steps on three sides. You will also see scattered about landscaped gardens adorned with figurines and running water in some of them. These make a welcome sit down area on the edge of the water features to cool down from the midday heat.
North Pavilion is the library of the Thai traditional massage inscriptions. There are 32 drawings of massage positions posted on the ceiling of the veranda. At the back, there are inscriptions of Supasit Phraruang ( The first Thai proverbs ), Kritana Sorn Nong ( Thai literature ), and a portrait of The Royal Kathin Procession. South Pavilion holds the collection of inscriptions regarding the angel who protects babies. It describes illnesses in babies and how to cure them. In the back of this pavilion, there are inscriptions of Ramayana, the episode of Pali Sorn Nong and the painting of the Royal Barge Procession.
Phra Uposatha, ( the main chapel or Bot or the Assembly Hall – a hall used for performing the monastic ritual ). For Buddhists, the main chapel is the heart of the monastery. The main chapel was constructed in the reign of King Rama I in Ayudhya style. It was then reconstructed and enlarged during the reign of King Rama III. All sheltered windows and doors are made of hard wood with crown–like spires and colour-glazed tiles. Mother of pearl inlays on the outer side of the entrance door panels depict episodes from the Ramakien, while on the inner side are painted specimens of ecclesiastical fans of rank which are presented to the monk sovereigns.
The image of Lord Buddha sitting under the Bodhi tree or Pang Marnvichai is in the East Vihara. Standing in this East Vihara is a 10 metres high bronze Buddha image, Phra Buddha Lokanart Sartsadajarn which was brought from Wat Phra Sri Sanpej in Ayudhya. The inscription of Wat Pho establishment is also kept here. In the South Vihara there is an image of Lord Buddha Pring the First Dermon to the Five Disciples. The inner side cloister contains 150 Buddha images with another 244 images being located on the outer side. These images were brought from the northern provinces during the reign of King Rama I.
The rear of the grounds and behind the Vihara of the Reclining Buddha you will find the Sala Karn Parien building and the Crocodile Pond, the Temple appears to be dilapidated and in need of tender loving care. I have no doubt this is the intention. However it is amazing to see a before and after which you can see here. This building is so badly in need of painting it allows you to see what state the Temples can fall into without the attention that is lavished on them around Thailand.

Genuine Gibson RB-800 banjo pot assembly. COMPLETE and RARE. Engraved hardware - $1000
Genuine Gibson RB-800 banjo pot assembly with the SUPER RARE 3 ply maple rim. This is a pull from a HEAVILY used banjo that was missing the majority of it's gold plating. The tonering still hast most all it's plating but the tension hoop, flange armrest and tailpiece appear as nickel parts now. (Gold plating was applied over the nickel plating) Rim is in EXCELLENT condition although it shows finish checking in the original lacquer and the bead of wood between the upper portion of the flange and lower lip of the tonering has lost all it's original finish entirely. Flange and tonering fit extremely well!
Original cast zinc Tension hoop is not blossomed.
Original cast zinc flange with Doehler casting mark is not excessively pulled.
Armrest appears to have original welding marks...ie...unrepaired.
Tailpiece has had a modification to allow use of either loop or ball end strings...
also the flip cover is NOT original to the tailpiece but seems to work fine.
Original hooks and nuts,
Original coordinator rods.
Original engraved tonering fits the rim EXTREMELY well.
MOST RB-800 banjos were built around the multiply rims that few people gravitate towards. The few that had the highly desirable THREE PLY MAPLE rims are extremely rare and were built between 1964 and perhaps 1967/68. Few of the banjos exist at all from this era.
This is a NOS Gibson RB800/TB800 resonator from the Gibson Kalamazoo plant. It has never been fitted to or installed on a banjo. The neck notch has not been cut and no retaining screw brackets have been installed. Since the Kalamazoo plant was closed in 1984 it would be prior to that.
Flame maple both inside and out. Inside diameter of the inner shell is 12-3/4", inside diameter of the "lip" area is 13-1/8", the outside diameter is 13-11/16".

The U-505 has an dramatic history... The Captain committed suicide during a patrol, and at a later patrol the ship was captured by US, the first enemy ship captured by US navy since the War of 1812. Today the U-505 becomes an exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago, IL

Tenth patrol – Zschech's (Captain) suicide
After ten months in Lorient, U-505 departed for her tenth Atlantic patrol, seeking to break her run of bad luck and bad morale. On 24 October 1943, not long after transiting the Bay of Biscay, U-505 was spotted by British destroyers east of the Azores and was forced to submerge and endure a severe and lengthy depth charge attack.
In a testament to both the intensity of the attack and his own instability, Zschech snapped under the strain and committed suicide in the submarine's control room, shooting himself in the head in front of his crew. The first watch officer, Paul Meyer, quickly took command, rode out the rest of the attack and returned the boat to port with minimal damage. Despite his quick thinking, Meyer was not rewarded, merely "absolved from all blame" by the Kriegsmarine for the embarrassing incident. Zschech is recorded as the first submariner in history to commit suicide underwater in response to the stress of a prolonged depth charging, and the first (and thus far only) officer to commit suicide while commanding a warship in battle.a Experts[who?] have speculated bad morale and poor command influence demonstrated (and encouraged) by this series of humiliating failures might help explain the crew's later failure to scuttle U-505 properly before abandoning her, although this is disputed by some crew members.
Museum ship
U-505 had been sitting neglected at the Portsmouth Navy Yard for nearly ten years; just about every removable part had been stripped from her interior. She was in no condition to serve as an exhibit.
Admiral Gallery proposed a possible solution. At his suggestion, Lohr contacted the German manufacturers who had supplied U-505's original components and parts, asking for replacements. As the Admiral reported in his autobiography, Eight Bells and All's Well, to his and the museum's surprise, every company supplied the requested parts without charge. Most included letters that said in effect, "We are sorry that you have our U-boat, but since she's going to be there for many years, we want her to be a credit to German technology.

An air conditioner is an expensive item and a very crucial asset during a hot summer season so you want to be careful about whom you let fix it. Most people don't have a clue on what it takes to make an air conditioning repair, so they wouldn't have a clue if what the air conditioning service tech says is right or not.
