Set off 8 am on Sunday morning to explore an old abandoned summer camp but about 8 shots in, we were chased off the property by an angry man with a beard and riding lawnmower.
Our fearless leader whipped out a Plan B and lead us down the road about 10 mins to an abandoned house exploding with colour and bad wallpaper. All was redeemed, great shots were got and the four of us were on the road home with an entire afternoon open to new possibilities! (I used mine to nap)
8/5/2013 is 1 year after non-air conditioned buses retired from the public bus service in Hong Kong. The bus route (route number 5A) in the above picture is one of the route that still had non-air conditioned bus service on that day (8/5/2012).
Sunrise in July at the Brainard Lake Recreation Area in Boulder County, Colorado. Hikers headed to Long Lake enter the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area shortly after leaving the trailhead.
This morning an adult Mountain Lion was spotted on the trail around Long Lake and much Black Bear scat was also visible. Moose also frequent the area.
The Brainard Lake Recreation Area is set in a glacially-carved valley and the high peaks of the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area loom to the west. With its high elevation, auto access is limited to summer only.
The Indian Peaks Wilderness is a wilderness area in north central Colorado managed jointly by the United States Forest Service and the National Park Service within the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and small parts of the southern section of Rocky Mountain National Park. It borders the James Peak Wilderness to the south, and straddles the Continental Divide.
The National Wilderness Preservation System protects federally managed wilderness areas designated for preservation in their national condition. The term wilderness is defined as “an area where the earth and community of life are untrammeled by man, where man himself is a visitor who does not remain" and "an area of undeveloped Federal land retaining its primeval character and influence, without permanent improvements or human habitation, which is protected and managed so as to preserve its natural conditions."

This was one of the more difficult memorials to visit for several reasons. The first and most obvious is the loss of 110 people. The second is the difficulty in finding it. At the time of our visit you had to drive through a construction storage area. There are no signs marking it from the road.The third and last reason is the condition of the memorial itself. It desperately needed better upkeep. There was trash and weeds everywhere and the markers themselves needed a good cleaning.

"This sobering memorial honors the memory of the 110 victims of ValuJet Flight 592 that crashed May 11, 1996 in the Everglades. The cause of the crash was determined to be due to expired oxygen generators being improperly carried in the cargo hold. All of the passengers and crew lost their lives during the crash. The memorial was built in 1999 for the third anniversary of the crash."

Kettleness Tunnel - Length 308 yds. Closed since 1958 the lining and floor are dry and in good condition. Contains an adit half way through for tipping spoil during construction.
Sandsend Tunnel - Length 1652 Yds.
Also Closed in 1958 this tunnel is in much poorer condition than Kettleness, Lining is bulging severely in parts and the northern portal has collapsed. It also contains an adit for spoil tipping propped by sleepers. Floor runs the spectrum from bone dry to soaking and sludgy.
Moves the intake point of the central forced air system from a floor level register in the wall to above waist level. With a curving-ish transition to entrain as much air as possible from above.
Now I need to make it pretty... Yes, I've considered a 2nd intake as high as I can make it. Block one or the other depending on season.
We enjoy the luxury of an air conditioner, even in Oakland. Of course, the duct work is all designed for heating, so the intake is low (for the cold air) and the returns are low on the walls so the hot air rises and mixes.
But when it's hot, it becomes a purposeless conveyer for a layer of cold air no more than .5m (20 inches) deep. Without sucking in the hot air up at the ceiling, and mixing the cooled air with it, the A/C really didn't earn its keep.
I did buy the little clear plastic diverters that attach with magnets to the registers, and aim the flow upward. But this intake, and a clip-on fan to blow waist level air from the bottom into the top of the staircase, were the secrets of real success.

This is the signal conditioner board. I made this PCB by hand since it's really simple. I soldered the components as if they were surface-mount type.

so we go from carving dark or light rocks onto cave walls to using coal once we discover fire. there's probably a ton i'm skipping until we get to the knive and we have all the 'craig <3 jenny' carved into trees and park benches, and ahh yes, spraypaint. that's a huge one. change out subway windows to plexiglass and we get legendary nyc subway scratching. a little while later graffiti research labs busts out their throwies,... but now we've achieved some kind of pinnacle with AC mutilation...
