alter-universes and things
we came to the conclusion in part 1 of this text, that pure singleness is the condition prior to our being real in space and time, and if this conclusion is forced upon us by quantum entanglement, then we ourselves are always entangled with every other thing - we see things because we are those very things that we see.
in other words, i am actually not conscious of seeing you, being out there in the distance, rather i have extensive understandings-with you which are the basis of our shared reality. there is no space (or time) between us - i see you because i am you. each of these understandings-with the other we call an ‘entanglement of alter-universes’, and later we hope to show exactly how these alter-universes are entangled, and extend as the basis of everything. suffice to say, the more entangled we are, the closer you appear to be.
each real thing we see around us is actually an infinite complexity of entangled alter-universes of pure difference - each extending (-with us) as its own time and space. (later we hope to show how time and space come into being-with things.) this infinite entanglement of relative spacetimes has profound implications for our comprehending of gravity, light, and the constancy of light speed in particular.
let us assume that the speed of light is constant for all observers only because the infinite number of alter-universes which constitute the observers are entangled. in other words, light does not travel through space, rather it is a function of my symmetrical becoming-with the others with which i am entangled.

pure singleness, symmetry and force
we asserted previously that the pure singleness of difference must be symmetrical. the reason we said this is simply because that for each extending of pure singleness which is ‘different from its other’, there must also be that very other from which it is different, and which is also ‘different from its other’.
this is our core comprehending of the pure singleness of difference, (on which is based the phenomenon of entanglement). in other words, we say that these two differentials are most profoundly entangled, because each is the very extending of the other. difference is the auto-entanglement of pure singleness.
if each differential that forms this simplest of all alter-universes is nothing but its difference from the other, then each must depend on the other for its very extending - its entire (pre)existence. this symmetrical extending out of the other we call their mutual understanding-with, and each differential feels this understanding-with the other as the force of its own otherness - its ‘self at a distance’ - its life force. all force is the force of otherness, the force of our own entanglement-with pure singleness.

alter-universes, strings and things
before we go any further, we need to re-emphasize this precept: that our comprehending of things is not isolated from that which we comprehend; and the means by which we comprehend the universe very much depends on how we comprehend the universe. plainly, it is because we comprehend the universe in a quantized way as ‘different things in time and space,’ that we must assume that our comprehending is quantized (packeted, grainy or particulate).
however, having said that, we have been considering pure singleness as the basis of this universe of things in time and space; and we have begun to think of things, not as separate particles, but as entangled alter-universes.
in other words, anything of any scale - from something the size of the universe, to something the size of a star, to something the size of a motor car, to something the size of an atom, to something the planck scale of a string (theory), is actually the extending of pure singleness as an entanglement of alter-universes. it's not that things don’t exist, it’s just that reality is quantized as we comprehend it.
we must also be clear that we do not mean to suggest that pure singleness is a thing which extends as subsidiary things. as yet we have few ideas actually about pure singleness, other than to assert that the basic condition of things is that we extend as pure singleness.
last saturday we touched briefly on the most primitive of all possible alter-universes - the symmetrical extending of two differentials. but we must admit that although it understands itself, there is no way for this primitive ‘twofold’ alter-universe to comprehend itself. the most primitive alter-universe - which can also comprehend itself - is a threefold alter-universe; simply because for any basic difference of two, there must also be a third entangled differential to comprehend the difference between the other two. this it does by extending as nothing but its difference from them. inasmuch as all three constitute a singular, symmetrical, threefold entanglement of alter-universes, the manner of their comprehending is identical; but each actually comprehends as its ownmost differentiated constitution - a product of the combined constitutions of the others.
to be clear, the reason that any threefold(+) entanglement of alter-universes comprehends itself as a thing, is because each of its constituent differentials comprehends this and nothing else - ‘i am nothing but my difference from you’. this is the identical manner of their comprehending, but the basic understanding of each with the others is as its ownmost difference from them. for example: a threefold entanglement of alter-universes whose understandings-with are A(BC) B(CA) C(AB) comprehends itself as the thing ABC{(BC)(CA)(AB)}.
understanding is the most primitive extending of difference. we call it 'understanding' because each differential extends ‘under the standing’ of the other - as the very extending of the other. this is what we mean by entanglement.
in concluding this section, let us assert that these primitive alter-universes are the purely single extending of the strings of string theory.

force, energy, space and time
let us imagine that all things as we comprehend them (such as the moon) extend as nothing but their difference from every other thing; and that every different thing is an infinitely complex entanglement of alter-universes (each of which is constituted as an infinitely complex entanglement of alter-universes……∞) let us also imagine that this infinitely complex universe of things is based on the simple primitive n-fold entanglements of alter-universes that we have started discussing; primitives which are constituted as nothing but a differential extending of pure singleness.
although we have not so far been meditating on how time and space are proper to our quantized comprehending as things, later we will try to show how space and time are actually the differential extending of pure singleness.
but in the meantime, let us assume that, just as alter-universal things are infinitely entangled, so too must their proper times and spaces be infinitely entangled. in other words, we must assume that if the ‘particles of science’ are shown to be entangled, then so also are their times and spaces entangled - simply because their basic primitives propagate, and are propagated by, their own proper time and space.
in our earlier brief consideration of primitives, we said (of a twofold alter-universe) that if each of its constituent differentials is nothing but its difference from the other, then each must depend on the other for its very extending. this symmetrical extending out of the other we call their mutual understanding-with, and each differential feels this understanding-with the other as the force of its own otherness. all force is the force of otherness.
if that is the case, and taking proper time and space into account, let us say (provisionally) that energy is force - relative to time.
let us also say provisionally that space extends as the difference of pure singleness and that time extends as the reiteration of that difference

Tropical Life [351/365] - It's soooo warm in Dubai! All of the buildings are air conditioned and cold, so I go outside to warm up... a nice change from the deep freeze in Alberta. Today was my first day of training... it's going to be a long, intense 6 1/2 weeks before I can officially call myself a flight attendant, but I'm looking forward to it. I think that the difference betwen myself and the rest of the the new hires is that they are excited to travel and see all of the exciting destinations that we fly to. I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't excited as well, but more than that I'm excited about the job itself. I love planes, and I love flying. Today I ate lunch on a patio overlooking the runway. It was so amazing and exciting that I had to pinch myself. This is real life, this is really happening!! I'm still pretty homesick, but when I remember why I'm actually here it's incredible.

An air conditioner is an expensive item and a very crucial asset during a hot summer season so you want to be careful about whom you let fix it. Most people don't have a clue on what it takes to make an air conditioning repair, so they wouldn't have a clue if what the air conditioning service tech says is right or not.
i am pretty sure this is a 1950's model Carrier, but i could be wrong. i think i remmeber seeing one in the Roxborough part of Philadelphi at a drivers licsense center on Ridge Avenue years ago, and going inside to look at the unit. too many years ago to know for sure though. please comment if you can say for sure what brand this unit is.

After years of driving bliss, I've decided to sell my 1999 Mazda Miata. The car is in excellent condition and I've made some significant improvements over the years.
First, I removed the front Miata "teeth", which are the tie down hooks used during shipping from Japan: www.miata.net/garage/tiedown.html

Finally, I have replaced the original vinyl convertible soft top with a Stayfast Canvas* top with rear window zipper (http://www.topsonline.com/index.php?CarmodelID=648). Not only does it look and feel better, but now you can unzip the rear window to allow better air flow while leaving the top up.

The exhibition, “Flesh and Finitude”, has borrowed its title from Cary Wolfe’s book, What is Posthumanism (2010). It explores the boundaries of human life and body. What is the end of the human and where does something else begin? This year’s NEoN festival’s theme is ‘Lifespans’ and our exhibition’s aim is to investigate the ‘posthuman condition’, the lifespan of ‘human’ as we know it.
Five artists were invited to provide different points of enquiry into what it means to be human in relation to other species, Nature, objects, technology, and humanity itself.
“Not all of us can say, with any degree of certainty, that we have always been human, or that we are only that.” (Rosi Braidotti, The Posthuman (2013) p.1) Today, when artificial intelligence, 3D printed organs and genetic engineering are a reality, what it means to be human is extended and redesigned. At the same time, technological advancement also reflects on our relationship (and most importantly similarities) with the Other.
Digital and sculptural works reflect on different aspects of human and its boundaries, its uncanny symbiotic relationship with others, held together by a melancholic sense of uncertainty.

Caitlin Dick (UK) – Caitlin Dick recently graduated from her Master’s in Contemporary Art from Edinburgh College of Art and previously studied a BA (Hons) in Contemporary Art Practice at Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen. Caitlin’s most recent work The Problem Begins When…, shown in Embassy Gallery Edinburgh, has focussed on the fusion of the technological and the human, creating an uncomfortable hybrid through digital and kinetic sculpture.
Give in to that Easy Living expands upon this previous work, attempting to explore these matters in a playfully cynical way, experimentally introducing an object-based installation which highlights our relationship with the bizarre, posthuman form that technology has created. Mobility assistance devices, kinetic sculpture and film create a sad scene of near total technological integration. Technology has become an extension of ourselves, no longer a separate entity; we feel lost or uneasy without it. The expectation of connection to anything and anyone at any time and for it then to be reciprocated immediately is an assumed part of capitalist consumer culture. Not only do we need to be accessible 24/7, we also believe that it is essential to be constantly active as part of our techno-ego. Our technological addiction has melted into everyday life, becoming monotonously accepted as part of normality. Website
Caitlyn Main (UK) – Caitlyn Mains practice operates from a state of uncertainty: through sustained linguistic unravelling and temporal installation, she presents works that speak of intimacy, agitation and balance. She accommodates, and indeed, propagates conditions encouraging fragility: every piece has the potential to collapse in on itself, and contains obvious indications of temporality. The work is a physical manifestation of precariousness – the use of dangling, leaning, bound and suspended elements serves to underline the flimsiness of matter.
Mains compositions reverberate between a situation of familiarity and abstraction. As firm edges become dissolved, or ignored, the parameters of her work seem to become floppy, saggy, and fluid – seeping outward to be absolved into the daily mass of visual information that surrounds us. The flesh of her assemblages is that of the world – the bones and tendons extrapolated from the domestic and the detrital, from our illuminated back lit phone screens and the phrases uttered to one another. Her frantic constellations continually oscillate between contradictory states: they are simultaneously saturated and empty, humorous, pathetic, sexual, exquisite and insignificant. Website
Rodrigo Arteaga (CHILE) – Rodrigo’s work aims to redefine some notions and ideas around nature and culture, considering what sort of division can exist between them. He has used material culture that comes from science and its varied systematic methods in the form of books, maps, diagrams, furniture and tools. There is some inherent contradiction in this effort to bring together order and disorder, the useful and the useless, unearthing the coded enigmas of our relationship to the environment. He has responded to scientific culture in an attempt to embrace its limits, maybe turn it back onto itself, finding a crack, subjectivizing something meant to be objective. Website
Alicia Fidler (UK) – Alicia’s practice expands how aesthetics of an object can be used to allude to the presence of action and a premise for performance. Functionality and Agency are contexts, which she employs to transcend an object’s still state. Adopting motifs such as handles, hooks, hinges, nets, harnesses and hoops, she dips into our preexisting relationships with objects and actions. Using Function as a guide for how the body enters the work. ‘Where the handle meets the hand to produce the thing’.
The work’s interaction is the crux, the genesis. She is fascinated by the anticipation and desire for engagement with sculpture. Changing and twisting the nature of the body and the object, into a moment caught in time. She makes works, which in every sense give instructions and demand usage but are so still. Wrapped up in potentiality. Stalling the moment of activity, producing an object that screams its performative past and future out. Recently working with visual suggestion, she has begun to use photographs of past performances. Distorting them with pattern and abstraction. Absorbing images directly onto materials. Re-digesting the echoes of action, presenting a twisted instruction. Through self-referencing, function and performance my work has become anthropomorphic. The sculptures embody their own Agency through visual clues.
They play out their own situations and actions extending beyond the tools, objects and apparatus they resemble. She moves from the realms of interaction, into works that represent a single moment; Bodilyobjects. Website
Callum Johnstone (UK) Callum Johnstone’s practice explores environmental collapse and the implications it will have on humanity. Knowing that our environment is changing at an accelerated pace due to climate change, humanity must quickly adapt by re-imagining and re-designing the structures in which we live. Johnstone aims to show that it is not the physical structures alone which must change, by also the underlying structures of our society which need to be rethought.
Though his work is primarily understood as sculpture, it often verges on the boundaries of architecture and design. His structures often incorporate repeating modular elements which allow the potential for a continuation, acting simply as a beginning component to a much larger superstructure. These ideas can then extend to the actions of the individual which as a collective become a greater movement and have the potential to alter society as we know it. Johnstone sees himself not only as a commentator and illustrator of current events but also as a module of the superstructure we call society. As a catalyst of ideas, the artist intends to inspire a conversation on ways in which humanity may adapt to imminent environmental threats.

Why Ricordi Arte went bust is a mystery. They produced a great range of wonderful images.
This is almost 2 puzzles in one.
The Apocalypse Tapestry is a large medieval set of tapestries commissioned by Louis I, the Duke of Anjou, and woven in Paris between 1377 and 1382. It depicts the story of the Apocalypse from the Book of Revelation by Saint John the Divine in colourful images, spread over six tapestries that originally totalled 90 scenes, and were about six metres high and 140 metres long in total.
Its survival was helped by being given by a later Duke of Anjou in 1480 to Angers Cathedral, where it was kept until the French Revolution, during which it was dispersed and large parts of it destroyed. Most of the tapestry was recovered and restored in the 19th century and is now on display at the Chateau d'Angers. It is the oldest French medieval tapestry to have survived, and historian Jean Mesqui considers it "one of the great artistic interpretations of the revelation of Saint John, and one of the masterpieces of French cultural heritage".
