The word was in a musical dictionary Eric Satie had at home, and the given definition was “An event at a greek festival wherein maidens danced in the nude.”

Most of my images are made under the influence… of music!

SILK WHITE CYCLAMENS

This is only a small plant, but on the windowsill in my kitchen, it seems to thrive in the Northern light, these beauties here seem to fight for the light.

Cyclamen are native to the Mediterranean region from Spain east to Iran, and also in northeast Africa South to Somalia.

The name Cyclamen is presumed to come from Greek 'kyclos', a circle referring to the round tubers, or leaves.

Lovely inverted flowers rise out of fantastically patterned rounded or heart-shaped leaves.

Some of the patterns, particularly the silver leaved varieties are exquisite and can truly be described as a wonder of nature.

From the family Primulaceae, they come in beautiful colours from white, pink, purple, red and combinations of these.

Cyclamen like the cool; the smaller the leaves, the cooler they can stand it.

The tubers are regarded as the favourite food for pigs in the South of France, Sicily and Italy, hence a rather uncommon common name Sowbread.

Cyclamen are poisonous; they have been used medicinally as a powerful purgative, but their toxicity makes this risky.

Have a glorious day and thank you, M, (*_*)

“The basis of my works from the series “text-objects” is a literary text put onto canvas. For me the text has two aspects: firstly it is a reality (written words are part of the real world around us), and secondly the text delivers information about the reality outside it. In my works I use many different texts. I turn to literature: novels, stories, classical dramas. In one work, several works from various authors may be combined: the works are not always given completely and may be broken off at the edge of the canvas or be used fragmentarily.

I work directly with the material and exploit its specific physical characteristics: the elasticity of the weave makes it possible to shape it at will, and its thinness and flexibility let it bee torn into pieces of various sizes. I produce objects on which simple geometrical forms or landscapes are delineated or objects whose material is freely arranged in various large folds. In this way the original form of the text is changed, and the new form gives rise to a new sequence of letters and signs. The visual form takes precedence over the text, and the attention of the viewer springs from the drawing to the text, which, however, can no longer be read simply, since the words disintegrate and then come together in unbelievable constructions. A game arises with the text-reality and the words, or rather with the visual form of the words (as distinct from their semantic and phonetic aspects).

I have arranged happenings, where the text-objects have been read out and tape-recordings made. Finally the text was printed, to document the happening.

In the series of works, where the texts and the depictions of landscapes interact, this series follows the intention of having two realities and two illusions appear together: the one of the picture with its physical reality and the illusion of the depiction, and the one of the text with the visual reality of its form and with the worlds which are described in it.”

Svetlana Kopystiansky, 1988.

My theme for this week is unbranding. I came up with the idea to create product "skins" that mask the identity of various everyday products. I am creating a series of downloadble pdf's playing with the concept. This is the first test.

Minute amounts of water, windfall samples - organic and mineral - are collected from the very landscape depicted within each picture - and chemically bonded with the film over 12 months. The result: a developed film and unedited, printed images that are somewhere between a classic photograph and a totally abstract image, depicting the interaction between fundamental chemical elements present at each place & time, representing a more visceral and literal experience of being present in landscapes in a constant state of natural or unnatural flux.

HEY! modern art & pop culture 4 exhibition in Paris, France, @hallesaintpierre Museum.

I could stand there for hours and admire these works of Art.

It stimulates my imagination! FUERTEVENTURA.

On our first free afternoon, we decided to explore the local harbour of Morro Jable.

The ferry to Lanzarote and the other islands, leaves from it, for the rest it moors a few yachts, some catamarans, a place for jet skis, but best of all the local colourful fishing boats, we were too late to catch them with the people, it was siesta time!

Wandering around, I discovered at the bottom of the rocks the tiniest 'beach', only a sandy corner.

Climbing and jumping down, I saw all the patterns the small lapping sea waves had painted in the sand.

I felt like I had struck gold, this was photography paradise.

Needless to say I have MANY???

But I find this a SUPER that will go on the wall, it made me think of charcoal drawings on coarse grainy paper.

I fact Fuerteventura is a volcanic island, and THAT is what ‘paints’ the sand.

Please let me know what you think? Hope you like it?

Have a great day and thanks for your visit, M, (*_*)

From photographs at the PS1 exhibit. The photographer paid homeless fellows to show off the same temporary tattoo in exchange for a taco.

To answer Celticvoice: This is my presentation of a 2 dimensional dyptych of fotos.

Like I said: I have to mess with stuff.

My new exhibition - a series of photographs of security company signs, called "fear no evil". I see these signs as a new form of folk art - the authentic folk art of the white suburbs in post-apartheid South Africa. Invitation design by Vincent Truter.

The exhibition will be in Smithfield. A small central Free State dorp, about 150km from Bloemfontein.
