What the Last Evening Will Be Like

You're sitting at a small bay window
in an empty café by the sea.
It's nightfall, and the owner is locking up,
though you're still hunched over the radiator,
which is slowly losing warmth.
Now you're walking down to the shore
to watch the last blues fading on the waves.
You've lived in small houses, tight spaces—
the walls around you kept closing in—
but the sea and the sky were also yours.
No one else is around to drink with you
from the watery fog, shadowy depths.
You're alone with the whirling cosmos.
Goodbye, love, far away, in a warm place.
Night is endless here, silence infinite.

When Great Trees Fall

When great trees fall,
rocks on distant hills shudder,
lions hunker down
in tall grasses,
and even elephants
lumber after safety.
When great trees fall
in forests,
small things recoil into silence,
their senses
eroded beyond fear.
When great souls die,
the air around us becomes
light, rare, sterile.
We breathe, briefly.
Our eyes, briefly,
see with
a hurtful clarity.
Our memory, suddenly sharpened,
examines,
gnaws on kind words
unsaid,
promised walks
never taken.
Great souls die and
our reality, bound to
them, takes leave of us.
Our souls,
dependent upon their
nurture,
now shrink, wizened.
Our minds, formed
and informed by their
radiance,
fall away.
We are not so much maddened
as reduced to the unutterable ignorance
of dark, cold
caves.
And when great souls die,
after a period peace blooms,
slowly and always
irregularly. Spaces fill
with a kind of
soothing electric vibration.
Our senses, restored, never
to be the same, whisper to us.
They existed. They existed.
We can be. Be and be
better. For they existed.
This image ended up as one of my prints over time. I named it static because it represents times in life where you feel utterly unprepared and Ill equipped for the happenings that life is forcing on top of you and paralysis sets in.
At the time I was in the middle of that kind of storm . I'm not sure where the idea actually came from but it hit me one morning so I got in the car with the chair and drove to the river and setup . This was/is the result.
Four legs and completely unable to swim. Life can and does feel that way at times.

Down by the river at a secret spot I shot for coming up on 10 years now. Shot it in every season from summer to snow covered, sun and rain, never had an issue or a problem . At times i'd spend an entire day framing on a tripod and shooting...
I went back a few weeks ago and saw that someone had broken into the building, trashed a ton of things on the ground that were fine the last time I was there, windows broken out and what looked like a path where they were taking things that they were stealing. I kept this place a secret for 9.5 years . You cant see whats there from the road in either direction. I told 4 other people about it a few months back , all photographers as I was coming to the end of ideas down there and its time to move on.
I went back today to shoot with a lens I never used there before and there are No Trespassing signs all over the place now and you can see more damage has been done. I pray that nobody I told ran their mouth and facilitated this happening because it would be a damn shame. Either or, Karma never forgets a face, trust in that.
This is the last shot I took there today, sadly it'll be the last l ever take down there.
