computer abstract art

I finally, finally, finally got my laptop today!! We're required to buy one to attend the school but since my loan check was such a pain in the ass, I couldn't get mine when classes started...it made my PhotoShop class particularly difficult lol But I've got it now...yay for new toys!!

It has an English keyboard, at the moment anyway ... too bad!! I had to phone my daughter in Scotland to find out how to type an underscore, as in ingrid_linnea! Anyway, lots of things to install and to personalize. It has to wait! At the moment I am having fun with this,

I do not know how to type smileys either!

just a little different... :)

Signal To Noise

Dry Reading Press

1988

Published in 1988, 'Signal To Noise' is one of the first artists' book created entirely on a Macintosh microcomputer.

'My work consists almost entirely of computer-based images in a collage of 'broken down' components, a kind of visualization of one computer's subconscious. The work I have done with microcomputers - sketching, word processing, controlling the darkroom, programming, and communicating- is preserved like an electronic attic full of drawings, letters, articles, and programs and forms the basis of Signal To Noise. The entire book was delivered to the printer on three floppy disks from which camera-ready photostats were generated.'

This is a photo of Will today in the seconds between his computer game finishing and his waiting for his result to appear on screen - bless him, he looks really stressed! Don't worry though, his score was good and he was smiling a second later lol :-)

This is my new computer that is busy uploading my pictures. I was part of the first round of people to get them because I took a computer class this summer. Everyone else has to wait until the end of September. Now I have mad powers.

On this rare occasion when its actually semi-tidy, I thought I'd better take some photos to prove that it does happen.

The census demonstrates how information architecture has shaped the development of nations. Information architecture is behind the census' design, data collection, and even the devices used to aggregate census data.

These pictures were hanging in a Men's room in New York City. Having taken three years of architectural drafting in high school, these reminded me of the old days when this kind of stuff was done by hand ... and not with some CAD's program on the computer.

NOT mine. I was wishing I had a bottle of my hand sanitizer with me.

It's been a couple years since I've built a computer from scratch, and in preparing for moving out, I don't want to pay for cable TV. Instead, I'm gonna have a modded xbox in every room pulling all our music, tv shows, and movies off this computer. It's basically just a 500GB mirrored file server. Hopefully i get it running really slick.
