Here Kerry offers us a closer inspection of his Amstrad ALT286, by comparison to the Acoustic Couplers "a spring chicken, dating to around 1989. This was connected up to a particle sizer to do boffin work."
Like the Couplers, it's kept just in case it's needed again...
Got this little gem on eBay for about $50. Fresh install of the OS and works beautifully. To be honest, it's my favorite laptop now -- even though it dates back to 1998.

I did get a new super computer this weekend. But I will have to wait one more week until I am back online again. My old modem did not like Windows Vista very much and decided to commit suicide. I just ordered a new one. But due to the holidays it will take a while before I get it. I promise to be back ( or at least I hope to be back) next weekend. I'll keep all my fingers and toes crossed. ;o)
But for now no worries and be happy. Let's dive in head first into 2008 and see what lies waiting around the bend of new year's eve.
I wish you all a great new year and that almost all your wishes may come true.
Keep on shining, smiling and clicking in 2008.
______________
Boeing conducted the first in a series of reliability tests of its CST-100 Starliner flight drogue and main parachute system by releasing a long, dart-shaped test vehicle from a C-17 aircraft over Yuma, Arizona. Two more tests are planned using the dart module, as well as three similar reliability tests using a high fidelity capsule simulator designed to simulate the CST-100 Starliner capsule’s exact shape and mass. In both the dart and capsule simulator tests, the test spacecraft are released at various altitudes to test the parachute system at different deployment speeds, aerodynamic loads, and or weight demands. Data collected from each test is fed into computer models to more accurately predict parachute performance and to verify consistency from test to test. Photo credit: NASA

PC6 + my hand to show the device's scale. The keyboard is "nearly" full size and quite comfortable to type on -- sturdy, solid, and springy without being loud or clacky.
It's a HUGE improvement over the awful clattery mess that was the Laser PC5's keyboard -- that one just felt like whoever made it just didn't care, whereas this one is much higher in quality. I like.

Our son, and younger child, completes the final stages of his last college application. It has been a few years since our daughter completed the process, but it's a very important process for everyone involved.

Japanese school children using a computer. Eventually they would learn to dominate the technology world! I wonder where these kids are today. From "Microcomputers at Work." This picture is being posted as reference. I believe this book is out of print (it's for sale on Amazon.com for $.14)
The light gone a couple of times and my iMac wake ups with a Kernel Panic Message. It does not want to work again, so I am copying the files to a FireWire Disk. I do not want to lose all my photos, all my music, all my data O_o
sadly, most of these stickers have gone the way of things that rub off when touched. also, way to turn date stamping on and not even make it the RIGHT date. i'm awesome.
