This is my last ditch effort to get some cookies done. We leave today for Florida for a much needed week's vacation! And of course, my big order of new cutters just came UPS today. I don't think my hubby would appreciate postponing the trip so I can play with them though. :(

Each birthday, one of my obsessions gets turned into a cake! The girls have excelled themselves again (see the cakes set that this picture is in to look at past cakes!)
I do look forward to these cakes but I mus say that my birthdays seem to be getting alarmingly close together as I get older!

The main cloister belonging to the Basilica of San Lorenzo is known as the 'Chiostro dei Canonici' and dates back to the last phase of the 15th century renovation of the complex ordered by the Medici family.The Basilica, serviced by Canons and dedicated to the martyr Laurence, was founded in antiquity and consecrated by St. Ambrose in 393 a. D. In 1418 the Canons' Chapter had the Basilica refurbished and enlarged by Filippo Brunelleschi. Works began in 1419/1420 and were completed, after the master's death, by his disciple Antonio Manetti Ciaccheri who conceived the two-storey loggia with the round arch arcade on the ground floor and the architrave on the upper one (1457-1460). Entering on the right, a statue of the Madonna and Child in the style of Desiderio da Settignano is immediately visible.The plaster statue is surrounded by a glazed terracotta frame and is dated 1513. Various plaques follow on the same side, most notably the one commemorating the renovations undertaken in the Basilica in 1742 and commissioned by Anna Maria Ludovica de'Medici. In the corner, at the far end of this side of the cloister, there are the stairs to the upper floor and to the Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana; a niche in the wall at the left of the base of the stairs houses the marble statue of the Bishop of Como, the historian and collector Paolo Giovio (1483-1552), realized by Francesco da Sangallo in 1560. Always at the left of the stairs, further along the cloister, there is the entrance to the crypt which holds the tombs of Cosimo de'Medici the Elder and of the sculptor Donatello whilst through a gabled door there is the Canons' Chapter Chapel with late 15th century carved wooden pews.

First attempt at capturing a star trail under the expert tutelage of Eric Mc Donald and Mark T . This shot was taken at Black Tor on Dartmoor and consists of some 90 frames, stacked and blended in Photoshop. The orange and red glows at the bottom of the image are caused by ambient light coming from Princetown and the mast at North Hessary Tor.

After completing the run-round manoeuvre (see previous image), Class 58 No. 58031 heads away from Bloxwich and approaches Sneyd Lane bridge with the empty MGR rake for Essington Wood Disposal Point on 15th July 1986. The 'new' Bloxwich station, which opened in 1989, is now located by the bridge in the background. It replaced the earlier station, which closed in January 1965, which was located beyond the background bridges close to the signal box seen in the previous image. I have now fully completed the cutting that runs at the back of the station throat/engine shed and turntable area.
I placed plenty of foliage over the green plates, that are layered upon technic bars and framework, so as to break up the straight edges.
It's a bit of a steep hill for the road but as space is at a premium I've had to truncate the real area some what inorder to fit. I've added 2x Maple trees, 2x Popular trees and a Service tree to the cutting and the old Oak next to the houses.
I've now to build the turntable well, water tank/coaling stage and engine shed.
I needed to correct the impression from my previous platypus shot that tails were optional! Here you can see the "beaver" tail clearly, but not some of the dangerous sharp bits attached to the hind legs because I don't know if this is a male or female.

Those of you with good memories may remember a shot I posted in September 2009 of the start of the Clipper round the world race. Well ten months and 35,000 miles later, yesterday all ten boats returned safely with great excitement to Hull. This is a shot of the Hull Clipper that came fourth in the race heading down the River Humber. All the crews of the ten boats need congratulations for completing the ten month journey often in some very fierce seas. Apart from the skippers of the boats all the crews were amateurs. For those of you interested the final positions were

Hull was overflowing yesterday with thousands of visitors from all over the world to welcome the boats and crews home

Hurrah, all details are there (except fruits that are very rare and seeds I could not find). It took 41 hour or almost 5 work days. Yeah, this one is the fullest pic I ever done...
This picture is also the first one I've done with Botanical Garden binoculare loupe. It was so exciting :)
"Jama Masjid" is a term that describes the main mosque in a community. The term can be translated as "Friday mosque" or "congregational mosque". Completed in 1656, this Jama Masjid is the final building project of Shah Jahan, the last great Mughal ruler best known for constructing the Taj Mahal.
Everyone is required to remove their shoes when entering the mosque complex. Shoes are left at the entrance with a shoe minder who watches over them while visitors are inside. He is paid for this service when the shoes are retrieved. Fortunately, socks are permitted. With so many pigeons making the mosque home it is easy to imagine that one's socks do not come through this experience unscathed.

After shoving their train into the clear at the west end of the yard in Grand Rapids, the power heads back to the main before changing ends and going to the other end to grab their train for the trip back.
The big Blandin Paper mill which is the reason for this trains existence puts out steam in the distance.
Went up to Zion in December 2006 after Merrie's foot surgery. This is the time to go if you wish to avoid crowds.

Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, is also known as The Guitar Hotel due to its tower constructed to resemble a guitar, is a hotel and casino resort in Hollywood, Florida, United States, located on 100 acres (40 ha) of the Hollywood Reservation of the Seminole Tribe of Florida. The property currently has one hotel tower, a 140,000 sq ft (13,000 m2) casino, a large poker room, a 4-acre (1.6 ha) lagoon-style pool facility with a center bar, and many private restaurants, shops, spa, cabanas, bars, and nightclubs, and the Hard Rock Event Center. A large expansion was completed in October 2019.
The resort currently has a 12-story "classic Hard Rock Hotel" with 469 guest rooms and suites. Guests are greeted by a 50-foot (15 m) tall signature Hard Rock guitar, (based on a famous Gibson electric guitar model) at the entrance of the hotel, along with a massive LED advertising screen at the front of the main parking garage. The resort has 120,000-square-foot (11,000 m2) of meeting space, including a 38,000-square-foot (3,500 m2) exhibit hall.
The Hard Rock's $1.5 billion property expansion project added a 450-foot (140 m) tower designed to appear as a guitar, with lights providing the imagery of guitar strings, and 638 rooms alongside a seven-story, 168-room "Oasis Tower" overlooking the pool cabanas— open on October 24, 2019, several months in advance of Super Bowl LIV being held in Miami on February 2, 2020. The expansion also included a 42,000-square-foot (3,900 m2) "Rock Spa", and over 20 new dining and nightlife destinations. Between the existing 12-story hotel, new Guitar Hotel, and new Oasis Tower, over 1,200 hotel rooms became available in October 2019.
On May 9, 2014, Seminole Chief Jim Billie announced a $100 million upgrade of the tribe's casinos, with much of that spent on the Hard Rock Hollywood location, including improved entryways, center pool bar, pool facility upgrades, updated hotel room, and suite interiors, and a new restaurant. As of March 2019, the tribe's upgrade budget was significantly increased to over $2.4 billion, split mainly between this location and the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Tampa.
The current casino layout covers over 140,000 sq ft (13,000 m2) featuring slot machines and various table games including blackjack, baccarat, mini-baccarat, Pai Gow poker, Let It Ride, and three-card poker. The casino does not have live craps and roulette, although there are electronic versions of those games available. As of June 2018, the poker room is located in a former ballroom area, relocated from its prior venue due to ongoing construction work.
Blackjack is the most popular card game in the United States and was an addition to the casino. In a deal valued at $1.1 billion, former Governor Charlie Crist gave the Seminole Tribe a license for blackjack in its casinos. In exchange, The Seminole Tribe loaned the State of Florida $1.1 billion over the course of two years. On July 3, 2008, the Florida Supreme Court ruled that the governor's agreement was unconstitutional, but table games continue to operate because the Federal Department of the Interior approved the now-invalid pact with the state. The addition of blackjack to the Hard Rock casinos in Hollywood and Tampa gave credibility to its claim of being a major gambling destination.[
Hard Rock Live is a 7,000 seat multi-purpose theater, which opened on October 25, 2019, with a concert by Maroon 5. The theater replaced a 5,500 seat arena (razed in March 2018 as part of the property-wide expansion) of the same name, which hosted different types of events including musical acts, comedians, boxing, and other smaller events, along with a residency by Billy Joel. During construction of the new theater, events were held at the temporary 3,500 seat Hard Rock Event Center, which hosted acts including Britney Spears on her Piece of Me Tour.
The 69th edition of the Miss Universe competition was held on May 16, 2021, at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino where Zozibini Tunzi of South Africa crowned her successor Andrea Meza of Mexico at the end of the event.
Model Anna Nicole Smith, who was staying at the resort, died in her hotel suite on February 8, 2007. An autopsy ruled her death was caused by an accidental drug overdose from prescription drugs.

Heading out of Beamish Museum town is tram Grimsby & Immingham Electric Railway No.26, proudly sporting it's newly applied livery (complete with British Railways crest!), and in real danger of being overtaken by a cyclist!
This tram is actually the museum's well loved Gateshead 10, adopting the guise it had when it was sold on to British Railways Eastern Region by Gateshead following the closure of their tramway in 1951. It continued to work as 26 on their electric railway between Grimsby and Immingham for ten years before being retired and returning to the North-East for restoration to it's former Gateshead glory.
The tram was withdrawn from service at Beamish several years ago in need of major restoration work. It is hoped that this work will be completed in 2021/22 and the tram, restored to it's Gateshead persona, will return to active service.

This is my completed Supernova quilt. I call mine a babynova because all of the fabric squares and rectangles were cut at half the original pattern size. The finished quilt measures 26.5" square. It is hand quilted with black perle cotton size 8. This was a wonderfully put together quilt along hosted by the talented Lee of www.freshlypieced.blogspot.com.

NHN's pair of GP38-2's hauls their sixteen car train up the runner this afternoon in a fairly intense snow squall. Trains have been short lately, giving a slightly better chance at shooting the southbound before darkness settles. It would be a straight shot to Dover today, although they did come north with 22 gas and 2 steel cars this morning.
